Melbourne QVM institution! There's just something special about these doughnuts - the dough is a golden yellow colour with an artisan taste and feel! You can watch the staff roll out the dough and cut it while you wait in the queue. If you come mid-week and early in the day, you might not even have to queue!!

The donuts are served in a 1950's era bus. It is parked at Queen Victoria Market. There was a line of people waiting to get a bag of their fresh donuts. The donuts contain raspberry/plum jam and are rolled in sugar. I ordered one with jam and one without jam. I preferred the one without as I usually don't care too much for jam. They are a nice treat while walking around the market. Be careful of the sugar getting everywhere.

The truck! If you see this you're in for a treat!

We ventured into Q.V. market just to check it out. (And you really should! It's more amazing then Pikes Place market in Seattle. IMHO) We saw a line up right out front of the food court area. Being a pack of sheep we investigated and found out that it was the American Doughnut Kitchen truck! It was on our list of places to eat, so we were so happy to see it. Melbourne knows good food. These doughnuts are nice, hot and fresh! The deal of 5 for $6 is fantastic! They remind me of donuts at the fair. Simply covered in sugar and filled with a warm berry jam. These delightful pillows of doughy goodness are worth the slight wait. I'm not usually a fan of jam filled doughnuts but these were on point! Definitely get them because you won't be disappointed. Not sure why they're called American Doughnut Kitchen... cause I've been to a lot of donut shops up and down the West coast, and nothing I've had can compare to these. Maybe except Hawaiian Malasadas... but I can't say since I've haven't been to Hawaii yet. Try them! They're good! You'll wish you bought more! Happy eating!

Super yummy mobile donut food truck. They make fresh doughnuts all the time. The ones I got were the strawberry filled ones. Nice and fresh and delicious.

These doughnuts are a little piece of heaven! When I arrived, the line was so long, but it moves really quickly. You get 5 doughnuts for $6 and can get jam filled or plain (or mix). I don't typically like jelly doughnuts because they're often more jelly than doughnut, but that wasn't the case here. It's light in the jam which I thought was perfect. They come out warm and delicious!

Ordered 5, already inhaled 3 before I remembered to take a picture

Probably the best doughnuts I've had, hands down. They only have one flavor, jam filled with sugar coating, but it was amazing. There wasn't too much jam, which is usually the problem in America where there's too much jelly filling and it's overly sweet. These doughnuts were crispy on the outside and perfectly soft and moist on the inside, my mouth is watering just thinking about them again. Not to mention they were only 1.20 AUD each, so good and I'm 100% going back here next weekend!

Holy donuts Batman. I don't even like donuts, but I love these. My brother-in-law promised me it was worth the wait in line, which moved very quickly anyway. Five smallish jam-filled donuts for $5.50. Only one kind of donut, the classic jam-filled variety. The donut erred on the side of under cooked, yet was perfect, so soft and doughy inside, with a very light crispiness on the outside. Served still very warm. I ate three without hesitation. SO GOOD, and I don't use caps lock that much to emphasize goodness. I contemplated stealing my two-year-old niece's remaining two donuts, that's how good they were.

hand made, and warm with jelly filled goodness

We just got off the plane and decided to check out the Queen Vic market and what do we smell, hot donuts, so we could not resist, and the 5 for $5.50 was such a deal! The line was long but we were surprised that it took only five minutes to get through 12 people since they have the bags of five jelly filled goodness ready to go. Your best bet is to eat them hot right there and make sure the warm jelly does not drop on your shirt, but since it is hot maybe give them a few minutes to cool down. If this was really in the US the donuts would come with a disclaimer! If you are visiting Melbourne you gotta try these, and get them first so you can walk off all of the calories by the time your visit to the Queen Vic is finished.

I know it sounds a little crazy for us to seek out the American Doughnut Kitchen in Australia when we flew all the way from the US. Some may wonder... why American doughnuts? While I don't know where that name came from and I don't think it is anymore American than it is Australian, this doughnut van reputedly has a 50-year history in Melbourne (also be prepared to stand in line for the doughnuts). During our trip to Melbourne in 2009, we missed out on the doughnuts because we were a little too late and they were closed (sigh). This time, we were smarter and arrived earlier in time for some doughnuts for breakfast. The doughnuts were perfectly crisp on the outside, soft and doughy inside. They were fresh and still warm with a dollop of jam inside. We just stood there on the grounds of Queen Victoria Market devouring them. I kind of didn't want my doughnut experience to end...

Welcome to the world of Caramel, Dark chocolate, Tiramiusu, white chocolate, christmas, winter, summer, rainy, sunny, sugar, raspberry, blueberry, blackberry, blah blah blah donuts. These are just some of the ranges available in todays world which makes us just wonder to think what do those old people really mean when they say "Ohhh the simple times". The answer probably lies in this bus (that comes from prehistoric times) where you only get one option of a donut for one dollar. They are so crispy, doughy, warm, fresh that you'd probably wished that you were born in those simpler times. They're making damn good donuts which is probably why they have survived for decades on the same one kind of donut and people have come over and over again for them. The lines are extreme and you'd probably have to wait some time, which is totally worth it.

This place is a must for me to satisfy my doughnut with jam cravings. It's unique taste is the original in Melbourne and the others do not add up such as the shop on Flinders Street. You can get it without jam as well. I can eat all 5 pieces for $5.50AUD easily.

I'm glad I stopped by on my way thru the market you can never go wrong with a freshly made jam ball or a cinnamon donut especially when they are warm, Be careful though if they are to warm you will burn your mouth which I have done plenty of times in the past. Be sure to give this place a try if you can get down here early enuff.

Drool. My soul was satisfied. Hot fried dough tossed in sugar with melted strawberry jam since the doughnut is hotttt. Five donuts for 6 AUD.

Located on 50 Rose Street in Fitzroy, the store's close proximity to the Rose Street Artist Market is a boon to it's existence. Sharing a space with Mottanai Vintage Cycle keeps things interesting. Perusing vintage bikes while waiting for your meal puts an ironic spin on things, given that many people in India ride old and rusty bikes too. The furniture is albeit low, but well put together. Old milk crates double up as tables while short stools dot the space in abundance. My friend and I shared 2 Dosas, one filled with masala potatoes and the other filled with smokey eggplant. The crisp dough made of fermented rice and lentil batter had a hint of acidity to it. Also, there are lentil poppers which make for a good snack. That being said, the star of the show is the wide range of chutneys. I would recommend getting the hot chili one if you are not afraid of pain. At this price point ($9), these guys are over-providing. The treats are both vegan and gluten-free too. What are you waiting for?

For those not in the know dosas are very thin crepes traditionally filled with spiced potato. Overdosa's menu is simple offering potato masala, spiced pumpkin or eggplant filling. Your dosa also comes with either a coconut or hot chilli chutney. You can also order poppers which are delicious fried lentil balls. We had the potato masala and the poppers with coconut chutney. I'm no expert but my companion who is Indian rated them very highly. They are hot fast and delicious. He devoured the poppers so quickly I only managed a couple. All the options here are vegan and although I am a sworn carnivore I can say that it was so tasty it didn't matter. The guys are super friendly and really keen to hear what you think of their food and have a chat. They will be at the Evelyn on Brunswick st over Anzac weekend and then they fly to India to spend a few months collecting recipes to expand their offerings and possibly open a restaurant. If you are in the mood for Indian I highly recommend checking them out.

To this day I don't understand why people spell doughnut, donut?!?!? My mom would always correct…read moremy spelling so I always thought you spell it doughnut and not donut. I guess this will be another one of those great debates like why did the chicken cross the road kind of thing. If you never heard of Daniel's Donuts then you better ask someone as they have been known to sell thousands upon thousands of just the Nutella one alone daily. I believe one of there stores has around 30 different donuts to choose from. Yes that's right 30 different ones. How can you choose just one? Yes you print can't. They sell each doughnut for $3.50 but you can get 6 for $15. What's cool is that they are not only IG worthy but they taste good too. My better half isn't a dessert person as she doesn't care for sweets too much and she said it had the right combination of not being too sweet and the right amount of softness to the doughnut itself. For me I love sweet and I thought it could of been a little sweeter. I wished it had a little more Nutella inside but the caramel on top was delicious. So maybe I will have to take back my words on saying it could of been sweeter. Guess the only way for me to see if it needs to be is to get six different ones. BTW I got the Nutella and the better half got the lemon filled one which she says taste better than mine. Hmph! I believe you can even order online and even have them delivered to you. Just go check out their website.
