Structured FAR Part 141 syllabus and a logical flow to the training both helped our son succeed. The cost of training was estimated based on expected time in the air and not on the minimum hours the FAA requires for the private pilot license. This is very important. I bought a gift certificate for my husbands birthday & called SEVERAL times (once a week for ten weeks) to schedule the lesson. I was always told someone would call me back. no one ever did. one time I was told they were backed up on introductory lessons so they probably wouldn't be able to schedule. yet no refund was allowed. I did my airplane add-ons with them which is not the typical program reputable flight schools follow but they were very accommodating and even got out of their way to make it possible for me in the shortest amount of time possible and up to standards. My instructor was Kendryck E. . I met a few instructors throughout my life and he was one of the best! Kendryck knows the material and communicates it just efficiently. He did not waste any time, made each lesson productive and then some, constantly looking to improve your skill level and pushing forward to meet and exceed regulatory standards, which one of my examiners even noticed and complimented. The training was worth every penny to me! If you are looking to get into aviation, consider American Flyers! They know what they're doing and are not cheap but cheap is almost always expensive in this business... You will be saving time, energy and money just following their program, for your career and safety! read more

This school is not good for individuals, part 61 or creating your own schedule as advertised. They mainly churn out full time academy students and tell everyone their schedules the day before so you can't really reserve time or plan your life ahead. Having multiple Instructors wastes a lot of time and money even though they say their formula works... reality is there was no clear communication of a syllabus so every teacher has you for a couple of hours trying to patchwork it all together. Their "textbook" is full of typos and needs professional help! Forget lesson plans because all the CFI's teach differently anyway- so much time wasted when you don't have a consistent instructor- but all good for them to make more money. On the first day, one of the managers lied to my face about the written test, saying I HAD to take their $500 prep course in order to get an endorsement. The truth is there are many ways to get the endorsement but this just makes extra money for them, automatic sign up for a 24hr weekend cram course. They are stuck in the dark ages in terms of test prep, nevermind preparing you for avionics you will actually be using when you graduate. They also refuse to acknowledge any online resource to support the ground school study. I couldn't get anyone to even have a conversation with me about it. Meanwhile, they charge $90hr for average discussions, which adds up to thousands of dollars for ground school, when you could pay one time $250 online for programs with a lifetime reference library with all the information to help you study ground school and get your endorsement. Other schools cost only $60hr for additional ground school instruction and there is no good reason for the extra cost here. The school is not organized for the students best interest. Their planes are often in questionable condition too, so you are paying a premium for nothing but a more stressful program that drags out sometimes because they can't fit you in the schedule or plane needs repair. I almost never write reviews but flight school is a huge commitment and it would have been nice to know about the pitfalls of this school before I signed up. I was there for months and the head of school never even introduced himself. Employees quit without warning or explanation. My advice, don't pay in advance for a measly discount or you may be stuck. A few guys did work to help me out there, but you really have to fight for it because the flawed system works against you. I finally switched to a better school with more advanced technology and aircraft, coherent client based philosophy and happier people for significantly less cost. Do yourself a favor and make flight school an enjoyable adventure- go somewhere else! read more

I live next to AF Pompano Beach and have met the staff and they are all top professionals. I had purchased an introductory flight for my nephew and he decided not to use it. Bad for him and Awesome for me. I went into the office and made an appointment, was called a few days later to schedule. Once the day came, the instructor gave me a tour of the facility and then I had time in the simulator to get me used to the plane. Once we were ready to fly, Ben had me take part in the prefight check to make sure everything was in working order. We then climbed into the cockpit and went over the instruments and proceeded to taxi. Once airborne I took the controls and Ben was there to instruct me and gave me assurance that I was doing fine. We went out over the Everglades and I practiced some maneuvers and headed back to Pompano. If you are considering flight school, look at American Flyers Pompano and be a part of the professional team to get your career or hobby off the ground. This is a great school with awesome Airplanes and even better instructor's. The only bad thing i have to say is about this school and why im giving it 3 stars is because the italian or french guy who works the front desk. ( he wears a scarf in 90° weather) can't be trusted he is absolutely a rouge individual. On several occasions he attempted to over charge me and when i ask the break down of the charges for the day/lesson. He then realizes he "accidentally" over charged me. no apologies no oops or anything. He also doesn't listen when you tell him your availability. He doesn't care about your education. He doesn't care where you are in your training, all he is worried about is $$$ and over charging you. If i was management i would address this immediately. It is not good practice to try taking advantage of people. It is expensive enough for today's flight training and to try scamming people on purpose is wrong. read more
