I am trying to get information on my mom's policy, but I can't get them to answer any questions without giving them my mailing address so that they can send me a "$100 voucher". If I could give them a 0 I would. The customer service is outsourced. We have been dealing with their unprofessional incompetence for over a year. We are trying to collect a claim a policy. We have sent them everything they have requested in triplicate. We hired an attorney. We have been frustrated beyond belief. We have faxed and sent several thing by certified mail. It is as if there is no record of everything we have done. AGI customer service is beyond incompetent. At this point we have spent 2,000.00 for nothing. I've never dealt with a more unprofessional, uneducated, and clueless business in my life. To cash in a simple life insurance policy I had to send three separate documents to them via registered mail so they would not lie and say they didn't receive them. One of the documents wanted a notary seal on it however, there was no indicated space for the seal and then they told me that they hadn't gotten the document with the seal. I informed them to look closely and they would see the seal and signature that he had placed on the side of the document since there was no place on the document. Literally the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing.. I do not give negative reviews lightly. But I would never recommend this company to anyone. read more

This AGI Company is THE WORSE company that I've ever dealt with!! I started dealing with them in March 2024 and It's now July 31, 2024 and I'm still trying to get what I want done. I've tried several ways to get several policies out of my step-mother's name, simply because we trying to get her approved for medicaid. I tried to assign the policies over to the funeral home: it was a NO GO!!! Finally, I decided to cash in the policies because I could NOT deal with these people any longer. The cash surrender process started the beginning of June. Every time I send in the paperwork which I completed with the companies assistance, they find a issue with it and ask that I complete it properly and send it back. My dad purchased a life insurance in 1995 for $15,000 to cover his funeral. At the beginning of the policy, we paid $210 for every 6 months. This price lasted only for a while, and it started to go up. We just paid over $900 for 6 months. With many phone calls we made, we couldn't solve the problem, and they said the cost will continue to go up and up...The customer service is terrible. I really wanted to cancel the policy, but when I think about how much money we paid in the last 30 years...I have to stick with it. I don't recommend this company to anyone. read more

For several years running, American General has sent me a notice of delinquent payment on my annual premium almost immediately after the due date- without ever sending me an initial invoice. They do not offer online payments on the delinquent notice, nor do they offer the ability to pay over the phone. Honestly I wonder if, as I am now reaching 20-ish years on the policy and the risk of payout increases, they are hoping some customers will not follow up and will have to have premiums re-issued at lower rates. If this only happened once or possible twice, I might assume it was an error. In any case, I would hesitate to recommend them to others based on this pattern. read more

I don't like that AGL Insurance does NOT accept payments from our credit cards, and, also, won't apply those payments for the whole next week, or longer. I am getting the run around from this company. My mother died in late 2022 and she had an annuity with this company. I am listed as the beneficiary and I've filled out the claim form and provided everything they've asked. Still no word (no mail, email, or phone call). When I call the 1-800# I get a phone bank which is outsourced with an outside company. They tell me we cannot contact "the claims department" directly, we have to go through them. I ask for a Supervisor to return my call (six times now) and, of course, that never happens. I've started calling them each week and I'm given the same rehearsed answer from the representative(s) to "call back in 5-7 business days". I am wondering who else they've done this to and what they plan to do with my mother's savings which belongs to the family. read more

We had a paid-up life policy with American General for many years, and I tried to call recently to update contact information, since we had moved and have new phones also. I gave up after being on hold for an hour and ten minutes. I tried to create an e-account, but because they don't have our current phone numbers, etc., their e-account form refused to recognize me to establish an account. After searching without results for an alternative way to contact them, I gave up. read more

We had the worst experience with AIG when my mother-in-law passed away!! I only rated them 1 star cuz I didn't know how to give them 0 stars! They did NOT want to pay the funeral home. They sent the same paperwork that we filled out right in the beginning of the claim 6 times!! They told the funeral home they had everything they needed, then proceeded to send us the same paperwork another 4 times saying they cudnt pay out til they got it. The funeral home finally went ahead with the service and internment without getting paid after waiting 7 weeks! 7 weeks! Do NOT buy a policy with them!!! read more

My wife and I have had a fixed annuity IRA with this company since 2003. Last year we did a trustee-to-trustee transfer of some funds from our other IRAs to our American General Life IRA. No problem. This year we are trying to do the same with ZERO luck. In June, we faxed them their (AGL's) request for transfer form, which they then use to send a letter of acceptance to our other companies from which we are transferring funds. A month later, we find out they did not process my wife's transfer. I called customer service. They said they had received my wife's request, but have taken no action. They said they would expedite within 3-5 biz days. On Sept.6 I find out they still have not processed my wife's request. Don't get me started on the problems with my request. The only people I can find out to contact is customer service, who enter the expedite information into their notes, claiming it is 'Distribution's' responsibility to process the transfer. But they cannot (or will not) give me any contact information for Distribution. I cannot believe a company in business this long would totally disregard my efforts to put my money in their pocket. read more

Been on the phone for about 2 hrs now and on hold yet once again. I have been told now they need a written letter to do a manual search. As said before all phone people are outsourced to where ever. Transferred. Transferred. And transferred again. I wanted to change my state of residence and make sure than state withholdings went to my new state. This required MAJOR effort. Well, now I find that they changed my mailing address but paid all the withholdings to my former state of residence. More phone calls and transfers in my future, I imagine. read more

They have misplaced the original copy of my mother's death certificate. And instead of doing what he did in the end (i.e. request a follow-up as to what happened to it) the phone rep. tried to put the work on me by insisting I need to write a letter for them to return it. He only relented because I told him that I sent them a letter a month ago requesting to file a claim and enclosed the death certificate with a bold notification to return it once they finished reviewing the paperwork. This isn't the only item I've a complaint with: They send out a mailer per each annuity contract. Fine. Except twice now I've either received information about 2/3 or 1/3 necessitating time-consuming calls to request a resend. And are all of these reps. outsourced to the Philippines? read more

Just spent 30 minutes on the phone again just so they could confirm they already have everything they need to pay a life insurance claim. Having life insurance should be for the peace on mind of your family members after you are gone... This company is a joke I totally agreed with the other reviews my aunt passed away on Dec 26, of last year I filed a claim against her 2 insurance policy with AIG in the first part of Jan. It now almost 3 months later and and they have not sent the insurance check. I try to call on a weekly basis and each time I am told something different from the representative. ( meaning claim form , affivants, death certificate) were missing ironically they would say that received 1 item but was missing another inwhich all were sent in a package together... if your reading this to the entirely ... please please do your family the best favor of all DO NOT BUY LIFE INSURANCE THROUGH THIS COMPANY... save them the headache of filing a claim cause after they get through dealing with them them will have one!!!! read more

Still refusing to pay until I get a judge to appoint me guardian of my own children. The whole point of life insurance is to avoid added stress on the children of the deceased. AIG service centers and policies are not accommodating nor sympathetic to special needs. It took them almost 2 weeks to refund me a check for over $1K which I needed to pay my mortgage. They are quick to take your money and slow to return it. So, if you are looking for a responsive life insurance company, look elsewhere. read more
