The Center is a research library of Asian studies, scholarly retreat, and a nature preserve existing on 72 acres in South Sarasota. Elling Eide was a scholar and anthropologist who amassed an extensive collection of Asian and Chinese literary works and art which is on display here. He donated his family land (since the 1930's-his grandfather's land), and a portion of it sold for funds in order for the center to be built according to his vision. The Elling Eide Center is not very much open to the general public aside from special events. The Center also hosts conferences, special lectures, and tours.. It truly is a magical slice of nature and very peaceful.

The modern main building is pretty stunning and includes a library and meet space. Open covered space is beneath it and a pond with a boardwalk pier is nearby. A wonderful and magical place with fascinating history and immersive nature among Florida's birds, turtles, lizards, wildflowers, birds, and breezes. I had visited and donated to this facility before and I was told on the phone the morning of the surrender that they do not even euthanize for distemper which convinced me to trust them with this little sweet innocent adolescent. I gave them money to aid in his specific care and what a total joke of a place this is. DO NOT trust this "rescue" as that is not what these people are. DO NOT donate money to this cause as they are obviously not in this for the right reasons and I unfortunately found that out the hard way... at the sacrifice of a sweet little helpless baby. RIP Tyson. You didn't deserve this.
