Although the VFW is currently operating under COVID-19 restrictions and probably won't return to…read morefully normal operations for a bit, I've spent a considerable amount of time here volunteering and socializing, so I figured I would write a review of what it has to offer. This VFW location is the largest post by membership in the world! While there is a core group you'll tend to see at most of the events, it's a rare occurrence when you won't meet someone new when visiting. You'll find people of all ages and different connections to military life, whether serving directly as veterans or having a family member who was a veteran. (Yes, you can join as auxiliary member if you have a connection to a veteran as a husband or wife, widower or widow, father or mother, grandfather or grandmother, son or daughter, grandson or granddaughter, or brother or sister!) One of the most popular events at the VFW is bingo. (Bingo is open to the public.) Every Tuesday and Thursday, the doors open at 5:30 and early bird bingo starts at 7:30. No matter if you are a beginner or have been playing bingo longer than I've been alive, you can have the opportunity to win a $100 round or a jackpot game. (I've seen the progressive jackpots go over $2000 for a card!) Food and beverages are available for purchase while you play. You can also buy pull-tabs throughout the night. My personal favorite is karaoke night and I miss it very much. Everyone dances, sings, and laughs together. Usually karaoke night is also wing night, so you can get food specials before enjoying a night of music. The prices for drinks and food are really reasonable, so you can have a night out without draining your wallet. The bar area is spacious and includes several rooms, including a section with electronic game machines. The VFW also hosts special events, like military balls and holiday gatherings. It's always awesome to see veterans in their finery and families gathering together for a celebration. A monthly calendar is posted on the website with upcoming events. I love spending time at the VFW as a volunteer and a member, so if you have questions about joining or events, feel free to send a message.

ATM, juke box and big screen TVs all around for games or events. The members pitch in when the time comes to help with events. The post has been more accepting of outsiders (i.E. members from other VFW posts). They have worked on eliminating unethical people that scam the veterans. There are monthly Member and Auxiliary meetings. Both do fabulous things for veterans and the town of Occoquan. There is parking up front and handicapped parking in the back alleyway. Electric vehicle charger is about 100 feet away on the other side of the post office. Weekly hand dancing events take place upstairs. This is an awesome post!

This nonprofit is housed on the 2nd floor of a building right off of George Washington University's…read morecampus, which can have an adverse effect on hunting down parking spaces depending on what time of day you come - but, provides you with a smorgasbord of food truck selections should you feel peckish before your class/event at the center . Although the primary focus of the center is to assist disabled veterans with finding career opportunities in the Washington DC area, many of their workshops and events are open to the local veteran community and are held primarily during weekday daytime hours. They also run the Washington DC Kaufman FastTrac class for new and aspiring military veteran entrepreneurs. I came here for the FastTrac program, which I'd highly recommend to anyVET who's contemplating owning and operating their own business. You do have to sign in at the front desk of the building, but sometimes the concierge is inconsistent so I'm not sure if it's a building thing or what - either way be sure to check in with the front desk. There are other nonprofits that inhabit the building but I'm not sure about their mission/focus. At the veterans center on the 2nd floor there's restrooms, two classrooms and a mini-lounge area with materials about other veterans-centric programs/events occurring in the area. They're not open on the weekends but I think that's because the building itself isn't open then. I finished "in the points" this time! It's held in the hall that you get to through the small bar. You get to the bar through a door with the Canteen sign above it off the parking lot. It's a very low-key place, with some VFW memorabilia. As a non-member, I signed in by the door. The decor is old and homey. There's around a dozen seats at the small bar, but i dont recall if there were any tables. There are some kind of lottery or scratch-off ticket machines, and a tv. The bartender keeps things moving, and there's a simple menu, hot dogs, pizza, cheeseburgers, chicken nuggets and fingers, a philly cheese steak, fries, and more. The burger was hot and juicy, and i think it may have been microwaved. Tasted fine. The fries were pretty good and piping hot. The people all seemed friendly and relaxed. If your at all cool, you wont find much for you here, but if you're just a regular person, this seems like a nice place for a quiet drink and some regular food.

The vision for the Bull Run Warrior Retreat is to provide a place for wounded warriors to spend a weekend or a couple of weeks with their families in a healing, therapeutic environment. http://www.willingwarriors.org/aboutbullrunwarriorretreat The Retreat currently consists of a 11,000 square foot home situated on 44 acres in the historic and picturesque Virginia countryside in Prince William County. Warriors and their families will be invited to spend time at the retreat. The retreat property sits at the edge of the beautiful Bull Run Mountain Conservancy and Virginia's renown Hunt Country. Work is currently underway to complete renovations on the first house. Plans include expanding the capacity to serve wounded warriors by adding a couple of more houses. American Legion Post 180 is your typical legion hall -- cheap eats, REALLY affordable booze, and…read moresports on the tellie, pool tables, shuffleboard and darts. There's always a couple of old-timers sitting at the end of the bar, lamenting the youth of today, and retelling stories of their glory days. It's always lots of fun to listen, and sometimes the stories get funnier or grander with each retelling. For big games, the crowd grows and patrons root for their team, making the bar area roar with noise when someone scores. You know--just some good dudes. Breakfast is definitely the best meal at the Legion, unless there is a picnic barbecue. Farm-fresh eggs, grilled to order meats, pancakes and French toast. Breakfast sandwiches are pretty good as well and you just can't beat the price. $9 for steak and eggs with a sirloin as big as my palm with fingers extended. If you're a veteran looking for a community legion hall where everyone knows everyone and you're never a stranger, give post 180 a try. Chances are, you'll feel right at home from the first moment you walk in.

I don't appreciate being cussed at and threatened. This all occurred because of their inability to locate the on loan Painting. I have attempted to contact the Post Commander about this with no success. I notified the Chief of Police in Vienna Virginia as well as the Mayor and Town Manager. If this is an example of your leadership, then I recommend training in civility. Dave At appx 5:40 pm , Saturday 24 August 2019, I went inside Post 180 to check on status of my membership card. I've been waiting since March this year. I've been a Sons Member in the past. I sent a check for $40.00 then after two months of waiting, sent cash and asked for my check to be sent back, which they did. The person serving at the bar, looked at two of the members, one of which was Phil Dunn, the other, the Commander of the Sons. I asked Phil if he was concerned about my puppy and pulled out my ADA paperwork. The Sons Commander started yelling at me and cussing telling me to "get the hell out of his post, I'm the Commander and you're not a member." I said I sent my $40.00 to which he replied it was sent back to me. I said it was never sent back. He then repeated "get the hell out of my post. I'm calling 911." I never raised my voice. I told Phil I was not combative. The Sons Commander said "You have your 'Gxxx Dxxx' painting. Get the hell out of here." I had provided on loan, a Giclee Painting of which was no longer there and upon inquiry, several times, finally reached the Post 180 Commander, Jason at Viva Vienna. A week or so later when checking on my membership card, the giclee painting was at the bar area. No one had contacted me. Angel, at the bar presented it back to me.
