First time visit, but it was a great time. A bit more than I'm used to paying, but you get what you pay for. Still totally worth the price. They were very warm upon greeting me, were able to see me immediately despite being a walk-in, and had me sit with Lisa. She was friendly, funny (told me "you're too young to style your hair like an old man"), and knew how to cut men's hair. Lisa and another stylist also used me to test a new tool they just got, which they weren't too sure about. Apparently I have a face that says test stuff on me! Haha I got a haircut, razor neck shave, wash, and style for $34 (not including tip). They told me about some product recommendations, but didn't push product. And set my next appointment when I was leaving. Important to make note of: tip is CASH ONLY! I'm used to using my card for everything, so was thankful I had cash when I was done. Overall, an excellent experience and look forward to my next visit! read more

I always go to American Male for a great haircut, thank god Lisa and Nicole are back! I was totally lost without them. The person who works the front desk on Saturdays is always so helpful and helps me with the products I need to look my sharpest! After a great shampoo and haircut, I then got to Just Chil down the street for an amazing FROYO. Makes my Saturdays great! read more

I drive my boys (teenagers) 25 minutes because it's a no drama haircut. Everyone is great and Jenny is wonderful with my boys. Reasonable price, online reservations, and a great introduction to hair care. read more

Awesome haircuts every time, and I've been going to this place since 2007; however Lisa and Nicole left and that's when I stopped going to American male, but I discovered they have returned. I've never had a haircut that I didn't like from either one, and I'm pretty meticulous about how it's cut. More often than not I just let them exercise their own discretion in how it is cut/styled. read more

I dont know how the the quality is here on haircuts because I wasn't able to get one. I'm thinking this place pays for good yelp reviews. I was running late to my appointment because my naive self decided to drive almost an hour here. I called 30 minutes in advance that I would be a few minutes late. The person on the phone said that if I wasn't there on time they would have to reschedule. Anyways i get there 7 minutes late and the hair stylist says she can't take me because she's booked and has another appointment in 3 minutes my appointment was for 12:30. At this time it is 12:37. I'm sure the minimum barber shops want to schedule appointments is a half hour. I was sure I had an hour slot though. Anyways this isn't McDonald's. I dont even want a haircut there if the stylist plans on taking 10 minutes. They dont give themselves any leeway in booking reservations and overlap appointments. Thank God I booked multiple barbershops in advance and I have an appointment the next day somewhere else. Won't waste my time again. read more

You can't deny that the decor is nice and the haircut you receive is good, but the service was poor enough that I was sure I wouldn't be returning as soon as I was out the door. I felt unwelcome the moment I entered and the person that helped me spent the whole haircut complaining about my previous haircut and how bad it was, which was embarrassing and unnecessary. Then the one request I had was for her to square off the back, which she forgot to even do in her haste to get rid of me. Everyone seemed aloof and I was uncomfortable the entire time. I'm guessing most of their clientele are regulars that are used to this, but it was not a pleasant experience for a first time customer. If you don't mind that kind of environment, go for it, because other than me needing to square off the back myself, the cut looks great and the wash was nice. read more

On my current extensive stay visiting my grandchildren i mentioned to my teenage grandson i need to get a haircut. He tells me what a great place he goes to and lets me know Lisa does a great job on his hair. Needless to say i was a little skeptical, but we jumped in my Jeep and we went. I had no appointment and the minute i walked into the place it was exactly as my grandson described with a coffee bar, beverages, snacks, flat screen tv's....and greeted by a very friendly Lisa who immediately acknowledged my grandson and said she would be able to cut my hair shortly. So yesterday i got a great haircut (i'm a very meticulous, fussy guy!) and Lisa did an outstanding job and in our conversation i was happy to learn about the many other services they offer and about making online appointments as well as just walking in as i did! I have lived in Clinton Township for more than 25 years and have been a customer of American Male for most of that time. During this time, I have used Nicole as my professional barber but, at one time or another, have had my hair cut by all of their staff. Every member of the AM staff is professional, skilled in their craft, courteous and friendly. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The owner and Master Barber who studied with Europe's most prestigious barbers, Karena Bertolli started out in NYC back in 2016 with the Art of Shaving where she cut men's hair and gave full grooming, and custom shaves including straight razor to her banker and broker clients on Wall Street.. Karena prides herself on giving a traditional English grooming experience. My bf received a really nice scissor haircut. She put hot towels on his face and used English products on his hair which smelled wonderful. The shop itself is unique. It's broken down into several sections. Each section has two sinks and two beautiful European antique world crafted style Barber chairs per section. This barber shop offers traditional haircuts, buzz cuts, fades, beard trims, and hot lather straight razor shaves, and straight razor head shaves.They also cut kids hair, and can do designs. The price was a bit steep at $60, but Karena did a wonderful job and I highly recommend her. My bf will definitely be back

But several women have asked me about my experience here, and after explaining it, they encouraged me to share it so others can be aware. I was a regular client at this salon for about three years. I came every two months for touch-ups, and I always had great experiences with my stylist, Lauren. She is extremely talented and I never had an issue with her. About five months ago I had an event coming up, and since Lauren wasn't available, I booked with Danielle, one of the owners. I was a platinum blonde transitioning back to my natural dirty blonde, and for months I had only been getting a toner. I asked for something more long-lasting. I showed two inspiration photos to explain the warm tone I wanted--something like a teddy-bear brown with subtle warm/copper undertones, not ashy. Unfortunately, the color I received was much darker and more red than what I had asked for. In certain lighting it looked purple, and the roots were noticeably red. I felt overwhelmed and didn't express how I felt in the moment, paid, and went home. I called back the same day because I realized I really didn't feel comfortable with the color. Danielle offered for me to come in the next day. At that appointment they tried toning and then added highlights. After hours of processing, my hair became very damaged--rubbery, gummy, and breaking. I was extremely upset to see how compromised it was. I was then charged again at checkout, which surprised me given that this was a correction for a result I hadn't been happy with. I was also later offered a $60 credit toward a future service, but considering the cost of the appointments and the condition of my hair afterward, it didn't feel like enough to make things right. My hair has taken months to recover, and another salon actually turned me away due to the level of damage, which confirmed for me how serious it was. Again, I'm not writing this to hurt a business. I just want to share my experience so others know to ask plenty of questions and make sure there is a very clear consultation before moving forward with a major color change. After posting this, I also received private messages from the salon that made me uncomfortable. I won't share them publicly, but I have kept screenshots I also included my before and after photos in this review so people can clearly see the result. The "after" photo is the one of me in the green shirt, which was actually posted on the salon's own Instagram. The "before" photo is the mirror picture showing my hair before this appointment. I also added another inspiration picture to show the warm tone and subtle red hints I originally asked for.
