Stay away from this company. I was warned by other reviews to be skeptical of their offer, and I wish I had. Long story short, we made a very complete budget with videos, distances, inventory etc.. but at the end of the job, they charged me almost double. We sat down in a reasonable manner and negotiated a fair price which I paid and they even gave me a receipt, but once they left the house they made an additional charge to my credit card for the difference (+250). "We're a family-owned business with our own fleet of trucks and drivers." - Our AMS "Senior Moving Coordinator" contact (salesman) Maybe that's even technically true, but it's FAR from the entire story. Their truck showed up two days late for pickup in California, severely complicating our departure. It was an Enterprise 26' rental. The driver and his associate were subcontractors from Las Vegas. One reason they were late was that CHP had sequestered their truck overnight near Bakersfield for logbook violations. We were quoted a "7-14 day" delivery window to our new home in Baltimore. "AMS" finally arrived after 20 days, and the driver, (another contractor, who spoke broken Russian accent English), refused to enter our neighborhood, citing "commercial vehicle size/weight restrictions," which my new neighbors all scoffed at ("moving vans come in and out of here all the time"). I myself had seen an Atlas Van Lines semi down the street on the day we closed on the house on March 29th. Mr. "Senior Moving Coordinator" had stopped responding to my phone calls and emails midway through the episode. They held us up for a last-minute Sunday night additional $1,900 "shuttle service fee" in order to relinquish our belongings. We had no choice, as the driver threatened "I'm leaving Maryland tomorrow." As we unpack, the inventory of broken and otherwise damaged items grows depressingly. I second everyone on this feed. If you had experiences like ours, please file within the state you moved or with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Association https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/consumer-protection/household-goods/protect-your-move. This might help people filing credit card disputes or lawsuits in the future. I also contacted my congressman, and he recommended this as the best next step. My family had 1/3 of our goods lost or destroyed by a company that they brokered our move out to. This was after a sales representative, named Paul from American Movers and Storage LLC, assured me that his company would be the carrier of our goods. In fact, he told me that they get new trucks every two years because they put so many miles on them. No one could get ahold of David from Anthem Moving out of NJ for a week and half. Anthem Moving told me they had no records of our move, but American Movers and Storage claimed they brokered the move out to that company. I have more photos, but I figure after 13 you get the point. Guys Please never use them they employ another company who is 30% cheaper than them and this is almost like a scam. they won't take any responsibility for what they promised. they promised to deliver in 7 days and took 199$ more for the quick delivery. but did not deliver in 7 days it took 20 days to deliver the stuff.it was my bad I did not check for the reviews they guy who sold his name was Jeff don't know if that is his true name, he did a great job of convincing and selling me the move. we have new born and a 8 year old as they promised 7 days we had to spend another 13 days in hotel in New York City. as all stuff was in the truck. the worst thing is that when we called they did not have an answer and put the phone on a hold and it went on for 2 hours and they never spoke again, I tried to call them for more than 2 months they will pick up my call but immediately put it on hold. This is ridicules why won't the guy who runs this place have a look at the reviews and make some changes to the system. Cant change a terrible experience with them, If you are planning on Hiring them PLEASE DONT. I would like to save other peoples peace of mind. I am taking the time to write this "review" in an attempt to save other people the absolute nightmare of working with this company. They ARE NOT a moving company. They do NOT own their own trucks and possibly may not even employ anyone in the moving business. I honestly do not know how they sleep at night knowing what pain and suffering they have created for so many innocent people. My step-mom reached out to them to request a quote to move my parents things from Surprise, AZ, to Sun City, CA. She spoke to someone named Peter Nelson who assured her that her things would be safe and well taken care, that her items would be stored for up to two months while they finished escrow on their home in California. She was also assured by Peter that American Movers OWNED all of their own trucks and that it was his employees who would be responsible for the move. He gave her a quote of $4863.71. This seemed in line with other quotes she had gotten from Cross Country, who admitted they were a 3rd party movers. Peter warned that this particular company would rip her off and implored her not to go with them and cautioned her that a completely different company would show up and write a new contract, possibly for thousands of dollars more. (Interesting that Paul would tell her this about Cross Country Movers because that is exactly what American Movers did to them.) Then a week before the move, they called to let her know that it would be $6545 because she had some additional boxes! There was absolutely nothing she could do at this point as she had already given them a deposit of $3,000 and every other company she called needed more time. She contacted them about scheduling the move date for March 22. They said the crew would be there at 8 am. They waited all day on Friday. No one came. She called on Saturday and they said they were on route. They waited the entire day again as did we as we had flown out to help them from Los Angeles. NO ONE CAME. 2 full days of waiting and not knowing if or when someone would come. I finally got ahold of someone on Sunday who gave me the drivers number. He told me to expect his crew at 8 am. They FINALLY came at 4 pm with a rented UHAUL truck. Now, remember, Paul has promised my step-mom that they had their own trucks and employees who would be responsible for the move. It wasn't until Sunday afternoon at 4 pm did we truly realize we had been scammed. Meet "Oasis" a new company that entered into the picture to further complicate the situation. The driver who showed up said he was an independent contractor for Oasis and would need my step-mom to sign a new contract and in addition to that he would need an additional $3,000! At this point we had no idea who these people were or if they had any intention in returning our stuff to us. It was absolutely heartbreaking to see my parents go through this. The "workers" loaded the rented Uhaul truck and could only fit about 1/2 of their things. They had to come back the next day with another truck to finish the rest. This is a good time to mention, my parents are not young. My dad has Alzheimers so he was extremely stressed during this whole process. It was confusing enough for us, imagine how hard it would be if you had comprehension issues on top of that. My step-mom was trying to handle all of the details of the move and she shared all of this with Paul. He still decided to take advantage of them. Moving is such a stressful experience and these PREDATORS take advantage of this. Honestly, I believe they are worse than burglars who come into your house and steal from you. I believe they do this again and again and again. This was not an isolated case. This is their actual business model. It's the lowest of the low. It's shameful. The worst part of this whole story is the day the movers finally delivered everything in the world my parents own. This was one of the saddest things I can think of to happen to people during a move. Many of their belongings were broken beyond repair. Antique items that have been in the family for generations were destroyed as were things like a TV. Boxes were completely crushed so that the sides were actually ripped open. Furniture was scratched and worse yet, legs completely broken from tables. We are now in the process of filing claims for the broken items but it hardly matters when many of their belongings cannot be replaced. I will continue to fight and make claims and complaints with the agencies others have listed here in their reviews. I have contacted an attorney and will fight using any means necessary to put these horrible people behind bars. What they are doing is criminal. There is nothing redeeming about this company or anyone who works for them. This is a well thought out scam to take advantage of people at some of the most vulnerable times. HORRIBLE. read more

I submitted a quote request on a site for finding movers. American Movers & Storage in Macon, GA, was one of the companies that responded. The owner, Joseph Harris, called me while pretending to answer the phone, which I thought was odd at the time, but I thought that maybe a script on the website had called us both. When I explained that I was trying to move my potentially dangerous ex's things to his mom in Florida, Harris offered an estimate price that I agreed to, and I paid a deposit of $748 over the phone. The estimate was sent via a link in an email. That link no longer works. After the 3rd passed, I filed a dispute with Chase, the servicer of the credit card I used for the deposit. Chase sided with these scammers after they told them that a driver had come to my house "within the 48 hour window" and been turned away. I have security cameras that can show that nobody had arrived or been sent away, but Chase will not accept those or photos or call logs or (lack of) emails as evidence. I have two roommates who can confirm that they never saw or interacted with anyone from this company. There are also many online reviews & reports by other people who were scammed, which I unfortunately saw after the fact. I am out $748 and still have my potentially dangerous ex's things in my possession. I am submitting reports to every agency that I can think of. This review at this point is all for naught since these b*#$*$eds are out of business. We too hired this deplorable company (if you can call them that). They are in the business of destroying lives! So much of our life is gone after 40 years of accumulation. Items that cannot ever be replaced because they belonged to grandparents that have long been deceased. China from Europe that is over 150 years old, many pieces missing & broken, our wedding toast glasses broken, mementoes from travels (like beer steins from 1999 Olympics in Atlanta), collectables that were actually stolen out of bins with the items they didn't want left broken so that we received half a bin, antique furniture broken & damaged. These are just a few. Many other boxes & bins never received. We were lied to so much! We too got a quote that was reasonable & when the truck showed up we had to pay them another $3,000.00 or they would have just left our furniture on the sidewalk. Most of the boxes & bins were in a storage unit so all they had to do was load the much larger truck we were charged for but did not need. But before they could load they had to "re-pack" which amounted to the additional money. They charged for "crates" that were never used. Basically they put the original box/bin in their box & charged us $3,000. I cannot express how distraught I have been over this whole mess. Now I don't even have recourse for a claim which I was told they probably wouldn't pay anyway since they didn't do the packing. Duh! yes they did AFTER I paid the additional money. The owner of American Movers and Storage had his department of transportation licenses revoked on September 23rd. He closed the business and ran off with everyone's deposits and money, including mine. If anybody else had this happen, please let me know as I was trying to sue him, but can't since he apparently has no money and was heavy into drugs. I tried suing Progressive, but they only covered him for accidents. If anybody has any information that can help all of us recover our money, please let me know. read more

Charge you up front then someone else moves you. The second company then charges you more on top of what was already paid. Very difficult to get ahold of anyone on the weekends when I was to be moved. Did not show on promised date. Second "company" shows up with enterprise rental truck. When furniture arrived almost everything was scratched or broken. Nothing has been resolved at this point. I was promised that they were professional, had their own trucks, drivers, and movers. Nothing new to add here except I wish I had checked Yelp sooner. The more I deal with American Movers and Storage the more I think they are scammers. They were nice initially but as soon as you make any sort of payments, good luck trying to get hold of someone. We're now 1 week post move without our items. The ETA they said is 2 weeks with a legal obligation to deliver within 30 days. We've spent way more than they quoted and even more on trying to make an empty house somewhat comfortable for 2 adults and 2 toddlers. Stay away from them and go with a better well known/more reliable company. 7/29 Update: American Movers and Storage has informed us they will not be issuing a partial refund despite saying they would for charging us more than the price cap. This was the absolute worst Experience with moving than I ever had! experience with moving than I ever had! They brough my things two months later than the date promised and the 30 day contract. They refused to bring my things to my home which was arranged three months prior. When they finally arrived having to deliver it to another address for of my boxes 4 of my boxes were missing and they brought me 4 boxes that were not mine. They have 3 alerts about their poor customer service and questionable business practices. They will have great customer service and go out of their way to get your deposit and set up a move. They will say anything and then when another moving company comes to pick up your stuff they will not honor the moving contract and charge your more, hold on to your stuff for up to a month, and keep asking for money. You might pay double for the move and possibly have stuff missing or damaged. The insurance will pay 6 dollars per pound. So if they destroy your 10 pound flat screen TV you will get 60 bucks. We used them and it was a complete disaster. The moving company who picked us up wanted $600 more dollars, and when we refused to pay they drove off leaving us stranded without movers. I actually was relieved when they drove off because after 3 hours of trying to get them to honor the contract we felt like we dodged a bullet. Their 24 hour customer service line does not exist. I'll join my voice to the others here in hope this may save anyone. They also operate under the name 3 Men Movers, Three-men movers, and Atlas moving company. Wish I could give zero stars. They'll tell you they're not brokers. They'll tell you they'll get your things in 2-5 days. They'll give you a binding estimate. They won't honor any of those things. I moved from MI to TX over 3 weeks ago. On the week of the move they increase the binding estimate, and by then you have already given an advance and would lose the money if you cancelled. That also pulls them over the competition they underquoted at first. They didn't show up all day for the pickup. A different company (Spark moving) got to my house at 10 PM, pulled an all-nighter, demanded a check and left, but not before saying I wouldn't get my things in the initial 2-5 days, but 14 tops. Well, it's been over 3 weeks today, customer service says they don't have a date, and I'm supposed to greet them with another USD 3,000, over 17 hundred to them, and another 12 to the brokered company. That brings my initial USD 4,600.00 binding quote to over double that value. I have already filed a complaint with the FMCSA, and my sincere advice is to stay as far away from this guys as you can. read more

I had already moved half the stuff in my house from Pa to Texas myself so my wife hired these guys to move the rest of the stuff down since they gave us a $4500 quote. She gave them permission to withdraw a $2000 down payment from her bank account then saw a week or so later they'd helped themselves to another $2500 without notifying her. They then told her that they had miscalculated & were doubling the original quote & therefore needed more money down. My wife was there alone & pressed for time & didn't feel like she had any choice but to continue despite the extra cost. On the day of the move they sent a subcontractor there with a truck then demanded yet more money to load the truck even though they had already collected $4500 which was supposed to be half down, then tried to inflate the entire job up to well over $12,000 to move half our stuff..! My wife finally told them to get lost & although she got scammed out of $4500 we started all over with another company because if she let them leave with our stuff they would have more than likely held it until they drained our bank amount. I am extremely unpleased, and dissatisfied with the entire moving process. There are an utter lack of communication between the sale representatives, customer service, the drivers/movers, and the customer (me). The sales rep (Jeff) told us that the price given to us included all the fees and that the dates on the contract meant that the pick up would be friday and the drop off would be saturday. The contract includes rates for stairs and does not state anymore about restrictions on what furniture can and cannot be reassembled once disassembled. Jeff explained that there would be no hidden fees and that all the furniture would be taken care of. He was aware of exactly what furniture we were looking to have taken apart and rebuild as well as the floor each apartment was on. Everything he told and explained to us was inaccurate and a lie. The customer service representatives (Mostly Kate) did not tell me until Thursday, which is the day before the furniture was suppose to be picked up that it was not going to be picked up until Saturday. She acknowledged that she should have known on Wednesday because we were told we would know 48 hours in advanced. We had someone subletting our apartment for Friday, so that caused immense turmoil because Jeff said that the dates on the contract meant that friday would be pick up and drop off would be saturday. At one point, Kate said that the pick off and drop off could be in the same day because the distance was not too far. Come Saturday, the movers show up. He said I had to pay him $100 for the stairs even though I explained that the stairs were already included in the price because Jeff incorporated it into the price in advance since we told him there were stairs involved. The mover did not care and said that he would not move the furniture until I paid him. Of course I had to because at that point I had no other choice. He asked me when I wanted the stuff dropped off, and I explained Sunday or Monday the earliest it could get there because it was supposed to be dropped off Saturday not picked up. He said that Sunday may be tough, but it would not be any later than Monday. He breaks everything down and packs it leaving the apartment a mess. He also overcharged me $100 and charged for 600lbs for three boxes. Additionally, he told me I had to sign a contract stating that I would need to pay a fee if we were unavailable to accept delivery when schedule, and I said you guys are coming Sunday or Monday right and he said yes, so I signed it. Come Monday, I reach out to the mover because no one had reached out to me regarding drop off. He responds to call the office. Upon doing so, I am told that my stuff is not getting dropped off on Monday, which was infuriating to say the least. I explained that I signed a contract stating that I am financially responsible for being unable to accept delivering if I was not available (under false pretenses again) but the date was changed on me without anyone letting me know. So how am I supposed to be available when I am not aware of the official drop off before signing it? Come Wednesday, our furniture finally gets delivered, which should have bee delivered on Sunday and Monday. He shows up and says that there will be another $300 fee for the stairs, which he stated he has the authority to do according to the contract, but he rushed us so he did not give us time to check the contract. We implored him to only charge 100 bc it was all we had but he said he couldn't do it, so he refused to give us back our furniture until we paid he ridiculous fee. He went down to 200, but the contract stated that at the max he should have only charged $150, so he overcharged us again. He then said that he would be unable to put together our kitchen table and our day bed because it was a liability. I explained that it does not say that in our contract. He said check the website. We did, and it does not say anything regarding this supposed liability. I explained that our contract states that any furniture disassembled needed to be reassembled, but he did not care and he left. I asked for proof, and he refused to. I attempted to call customer service on the spot at 5:45pm and no one answered. The mover also damaged our stuff and new apartment Come Thursday, I called and spoke to Jack about these issues. He said that the liability was a federal law. I asked him what law he was referring to, and he did not know but he had heard about it. I explained that what you hear is not legally binding but what is is a contract that we signed. This "federal law" does not exist, and I have reached out to other moving companies in different states that have never heard of this law, so I was blatantly lied to. EVEN IF it were a law, it should have been in the contract and told to us when we explained the furniture we were interested in moving. TOTAL SCAM!!! DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE YOUR MONEY!!!! Scheduled this move in February! Movers for the boat and household goods supposedly broke down? Both trucks? Really? Neither showed on the scheduled day which was 5/30. It is now 6/1 at 11:30am and still no movers. Household movers are supposed to be here around noon. Boat mover still broke down this time in Tampa. Driver said he was never told the boat needed to be on a car carrier!!!! Even though this was discussed several times with both Coast to Coast and American Movers. Looks as though the only way to get my boat moved is if they pull it. Even though I am paying for a car carrier. Movers showed up yesterday 5/31 @ 2:00p. They all were wearing flip flops to move a 3 bedroom house plus a motorcycle which they had no clue they were moving!!!!! The truck they showed up in was a Penkski rental truck with no lift gate. Obviously they can't load the motorcycle on this, they have no straps, no crate, etc. They call their boss and he doesn't know either even though it's right on the quote!!! He tells them that they have to have a crate built in Miami and that I have to pay $1200.00!!! And it won't be ready until Monday 6/3!! I obviously call American Movers, and they are just as clueless as their moving crew. They have words, the drivers end up leaving! So after calling back and arguing with James, and Richard they tell me a different crew is gonna come the next day!!! So here we sit waiting again!!!!! Update it is now 12:38p 6/1 and still no movers. Called the boat mover, and now he's back at the dealership 3 hrs away!! 1:30p still not here. Now they aren't returning my calls or texts. I keep getting the run around from everyone I've talked too. So it's now 3:04 p on 6/1. The driver texted me three hours ago that he's close on exit 246 of I95. Time goes by and never hear from him. Now he tells me he's been pulled over by DOT!!!!! I'm about to lose my mind!!!!!! Richard (the owner) will not answer his cell phone, or call me back. I need to call an Attorney at this point. Driver shows up at 4:19 6/1. One guy by himself in a lift gate Penske truck. He waited for about an hour for his helpers that were supposedly right around the corner. One guy shows up all dressed up like he's going out. They argue in Spanish to each other for about 10 mins and after not getting anywhere with his boss, and obviously me getting the run around from Richard he got frustrated and began to tell me he hadn't been paid in four weeks, I showed him the horrible reviews on google and he tells me he's leaving and that I shouldn't have them load my stuff because it's going to be unloaded, placed in a warehouse until they get enough items going to Texas. Even after Richard assured me that his best crew was coming and that it would go straight to my new place. All bullshit! Everyone in the whole company lies! So the driver left! I said I'm done with this and rented a uhaul to just do it myself! Meanwhile I have to be at work in Texas Monday!!!! 6/2 we are now loaded up on a uhaul ourselves. It will be a fight to get my 2k back that I put down. 6/4 so made it to Louisiana. The guy who took my boat @ midnight 5/30 has only made it to Tallahassee Fl from Deland Fl because guess what? Yes his truck broke down again. He left three days before me and only made it a couple hours, meanwhile I'm almost to Texas.So I called Richard to see if he would do the right thing, and refund our 2k down payment since we ended up moving ourselves and he tells me this is my fault and that I sent the two trucks away.
