I visited the Gardens at the American Rose Center last April especially to see their large collection of once blooming heritage rambling roses while they were in bloom. They are the site of the largest collection of rare ramblers in the United States and one of the largest collections in the world. Most these roses are out of commerce in the US and only can be seen in the famous rose gardens in Europe. I was not disappointed, not only did I see beautiful large ramblers on 12' tall towers and growing on a long 10' fence, but the there are two nurseries on the back of the property where they are growing 300 different varieties of ramblers in a rose conservation project. If the ramblers are not in bloom there are hundreds of hybrid tea and shrub roses in the main gardens that will make you visit very enjoyable, and it was a lot less expensive than a trip to Europe! read more

I attended a wedding as a family friend on October 13 at the American Rose Center in Shreveport, La. If there was a review on yelp that had no star, this would be it! In the middle of the wedding reception, when toasts were being made by the wedding party, the American Rose Center event planner came into the reception room and caused a huge and loud disruption that could be heard by all the guests. She was yelling loudly at the groom's father and others and making a scene right in the middle of the wedding reception over the use of a few extra chairs that she said were not available for use at this wedding! She loudly said that if the wedding party wanted more chairs "they would need to pay her for them!!" She began pulling the chairs out from under the people already seated on them, including one handicapped woman! The whole scene was absolutely horrible and uncalled for! The event planner could have easily and professionally asked one of the parents to step outside the reception room to discuss the matter if it was so important to her. Instead, she made a huge disruption right in the middle of the reception while toasts were being made! The groom's mother was in tears because of the humiliation and embarrassment caused by the event planner. Months of working on making this wedding a day for the couple to fondly remember by hand-making invitations, finding the right dress, decorating the hall, planning the honeymoon and more, this event planner ruined the entire event for the couple and their families. The event planner was extremely unprofessional and has no place working in this environment and should be fired immediately!! A wedding is supposed to be one of the most wonderful events in a couple's life. But their memory of their wedding will be forever tainted because of her! If you are a couple planning a wedding and considering the American Rose Center for your event, I just have one recommendation: DON'T! read more

Worst experience i have ever had with a venue. The event coordinator was a nasty , rude and very unpleasant person. My only son and my new daughter in-law fought tooth and nail with every aspect of trying to get there dream wedding to go off without a hitch, But she made what should have been a wonderful experience totally miserable . We needed a few chairs for some of our guest to sit and enjoy the meal. So instead of going all the way out to where the wedding was held i got a few chair off back porch that were stacked up just few feet away ( over 300 chairs on back porch) . She came into our reception and made them get up and took chairs. She did everything from the start to make this the most measurable experience she could. we asked that the junk in front and on the path to wedding site be removed but she left large stack of boxes and ladders right by front door. Her supervisor came up and she acted like she thought she did everything right. nether one of these people need to be in the event business. everyone at this event said they will never step foot on rose center ever again and came to us , telling us how sorry they felt for us being treated that way. Paid for extra hour and had to use it cleaning up whole event because she said she was locking the gate at 10pm . I was told i could come next morning and get the 80 chairs i brought. at 9pm i was informed i had to be there at 6am to get chairs. the wedding party and guest went and brought chairs up and loaded in personal cars and trucks and brought to my house 40 miles away that night so i did not have to ever go back on there property. The American Rose Center was a wonderful stop while visiting Shreveport, but it seems to be awaiting some renovations at the moment. I visited in early May, when I expected many of the roses to be in full bloom. There were some gorgeous flowers, but also many beds seemed to be wanting attention, and were not at their full glory. Other gardens seemed to have been left dormant for several years, but still made for a pleasant and meditative stroll. The gardens seem to be undergoing a fair bit of work at the moment, so I expect that they may be back to their full glory in a season or two. Admission is currently by donation, formerly $5 for adults. read more

This place looks like a cheap version of City Park. The very instant we got out of the car, a man told us we needed to go inside a pay the "suggested $5 donation" Then we could walk around. I suggest removing the free admission part then! Now besides that it is now fall and most flowers are dead, that place was trash. Everything looked unkept. They are apparently preparing for Christmas soon because their very old decorations are being brought out. The gift shop was so dang hot that we couldn't even look around. The girl in the gift shop was sweet. But this is place is so not worth $5! read more

I had my wedding here on Oct 13, 2024. Their Event Coordinator, Lani Bailey, and by extension their Director, Claire Bissell, and two of the most unprofessional people I have ever met that seriously suck at customer service and event planning. Some examples: when asking what time we are allowed to arrive for our wedding, I had to argue and ask to be allowed to arrive 4 hours prior to use the included bridal suite (they expected us to arrive at the wedding start time and not a minute sooner). When asked when we could decorate, we were told only during business hours but then they back tracked and said we had to wait 2+ hours for another event to be tore down (mind you our wedding had been planned months in advance). We also were told we had to have everything tore down and taken away IMMEDIATELY after our wedding and we had to pay for an extra hour to do so after my wedding ended. Can any brides out there imagine moving 80+ chairs and cleaning up all decor with family and friends right after your wedding? Because I had to and their event coordinator sat in the offic, didn't ask if we needed help, and refused to allow us to use their golf cart to move chairs from the garden to a truck. Oh, and the icing on the cake: not 5 minutes after me and my new husband walk into the reception area, Lani the event coordinator storms in, tries to remove spare chairs from under guests already seated, yells at my family, and causes a huge scene AT. MY. WEDDING. And let's not forget that the garden was covered in half put up Christmas decorations (on Oct 13th) and boxes from the event the night before (funny how that event could leave stuff to be picked up at a later date but not us...). The gardens were also in poor conditions with weeds in abundance near the 3rd circle where we were wed. I could go on about their piss poor management and severe lack of customer service but I don't ever want to think about these people anymore. Every time I would ask a simple question, it was met with defensiveness, immediate negativity, and their event coordinator did the absolute bare minimum both before and during our wedding. read more

Just off the highway by the Texas border is a pretty funny place for this little Eden like this. On a sunny day, you can enjoy a seemingly endless stroll by plant life, a chapel, and a stop sign with a sense of humor. I'd say it's one of the more underrated attractions in the area. read more

This review is only for the Holiday lights presentation. I've never been during rose growing season, so your mileage may vary. The Rose Center used to be a fantastic stop for holiday lights and seaons greetings. Or maybe I was just a bumpkin from Haughton who didn't know any better. Bottom line--I've seen better. Much better. At my local mall. If you're in town and bored and it's Christmas and Pierre Bossier Mall or the Boardwalk or the Texas Street Bridge is closed, here's your holiday choice. If it's between Mall St Vincent and here, pick here. At least you won't get shanked in the parking lot. read more

We were on a road trip to Texas...instead of driving through Shreveport we decided to make a stop at this garden. There was no charge to tour the garden at this time...a donation was given and appreciated. The flowers are not at their prime this time of year (end of May) but there are still many beautiful roses to enjoy. We saw the serene Reflection Pool...walked a little further down the path and there it was...in all its glory...Windsounds Carillon Tower...beautiful, impressive, nestled in the tall pines with roses blooming nearby. What a sweet place for picture taking. On our way back towards the parking lot we saw the quaint Japanese Teahouse. read more

Loved school Xmas card displays. Could use more lights on walkways & better lighting for displays so we can take pictures. Everything should be lit up. Great Santa! Need more Xmas items in gift shop.
