The negligence was across the board from Aids, Nurses, Director of Nursing and the Director of the Facility himself. A few amazing Aids, Nurses and a wonderful PT Therapist could not overcome the daily concern of care. We constantly tried to get change through their internal grievance process, their internal Social Services Department and finally a complaint with the Indiana Department of Health. Our case was extensively documented with dates, circumstances and names. The State closed our case for "Unsubstantiated" claims. What a farce! They require a complaint to be substantiated by the very people you are accusing of the problems. Therefore, the governing body put in place to protect our elder, could not help my family because no one at the facility had the decency to admit to our claims. We have moved Dad, he is a different person. His personality has come back, he's in his wheelchair dressed nicely, the blinds are open and he's laughing and talking again! A complete 360 change! A blessing for us, but what about the other residents at UH that don't have advocates or the ability to move to another facility - we worry about them. We tried to voice concerns on a bigger level for all to hear and got no where.

My needs were met and I did not have any issues. I was there recovering from a broken back. Great care was given to help me learn how to move properly to prevent any further damage to my spine. Once the pain specialist helped me get to the lowest dose to manage the pain as well as giving me steroid injections, my ability to move and do more jumped by leaps and bounds. This made the jobs of the OT and PT staff go more smoothly working with me. The nurses and aides were incredibly compassionate and gentle in their care of me. It was wonderful seeing how serious they took their job in caring for me and the other residents. The administrative staff checked in every couple few days to see if I needed anything beyond what the others were doing. Things like books to read or coloring books to occupy my spare time. Even the occasional snack! I would definitely use University Heights again if the need ever arose. Delana Gifford
