I booked a one night stay at America's Best Inn for my daughter's birthday through Priceline.com. When booking, I said it would be for myself & 3 teens (all aged 17) It was a standard room with 2 queen beds. I paid up front. We arrived at the hotel around 630pm. Myself, my daughter and 1 friend checked into the hotel. The receptionist SAW there were 3 of us checking in. The other friend was coming a little bit after. We got to the room, & I told them I was running to the store for snacks (less than a mile away) & would be right back. While I was gone, the other friend arrived & the 2 girls met her at the door & went back up to room. A short while later, before I got back, the receptionist knocked on the door, yelling about how their manager saw on the cameras they had brought another person up to the room, that the room was for only 2 people (even though I had specified 4 when booking & the room had 2 queen beds, & THE RECEPTIONIST HERSELF CHECKED 3 OF US IN) & that I wasn't allowed to leave them alone in the room (it was for a short while, & they are all 17 & capable of being alone for less than an hour) & that the hotel was kicking them out because they were "partying" (3 girls, no music, no drugs no alcohol broad daylight, I don't know where they got partying from) & if they didn't leave the cops would be called. The girls tried asking why & what they did wrong. Out in the parking lot, they were in the friends car waiting for me to get back, & the cops showed up! THE HOTEL CALLED THE COPS ON US FOR ABSOLUTELY NO REASON. Somehow it was OK to kick 3 teenagers out on the street without even calling me & letting me know what was going on but yet it wasn't OK for me to leave them in the room while I ran to the store. Even the cops didn't call to let me know what was going on. The girls called me & told me what had happened. Staff was friendly but we stayed here for a wedding and booked the room in advance and when we got there the pool and hot tub were closed. Not happy about this. I would have went to another hotel but they were all booked for the weekend. Sent them a private message for them to correct the situation before posting about this and they have not been in contact with me. Will not stay at this hotel again will go to the super 8 up the road next time. read more

We've stayed at this inn a couple times and have been pleased with the accommodations we've received. The staff was friendly and intuitive to client needs. Our room was clean and fresh upon arrival and keenly tended to throughout our stay. The continental breakfast was always well stocked. We also enjoyed the pool and hot tub which were nicely maintained. The quality of service for the reasonable price will have us returning on our next visit. read more

This was THE WORST hotel I've ever had to deal with. They messed everything up that you could have messed up here, and here's the kicker; we didn't even stay one night. We planned to stay the night of July 2 into July 3, and the reservations were made on Priceline I booked two rooms, and received two emails with two confirmation numbers. So far, so good. This looks like a decent hotel from pictures with an indoor pool, hot tub, so it looked good enough for the one night we'd need it. I called the Tuesday before our stay to ask if I could add a crib to one of the rooms for my son, and the man working had no record of my reservation. The man working put the manager on the line, and said that their confirmation numbers are 5 digits in length, and the numbers I had were longer than that. You would think that maybe I had the wrong hotel perhaps? Nope, the address was correct, the phone number was correct, and the website was correct as well. Luckily, at the time that I called, they "had two rooms available," so I took them and made the reservation. So the day comes that we'll arrive and we'll arrive separately as we are driving from two different cities. My dad checks in early and pays with his credit card, but doesn't take his room keys as the rooms weren't ready yet. So after celebrating the 4th with the family, I leave around 9 pm heading to the hotel to pick up our room key. I tell the man working that my dad checked in earlier and I just have to pick them up. All of a sudden, he tells me that there is no reservation with my name or my dad's. I told him that he checked in earlier and paid already. The guy calls over the manager (turns out she's the one that checked my dad in earlier that day, her name is Donna) who is sitting with her children in the lobby?? She comes back and she looks through the system and tells me the exact same thing about no reservations. Her cell phone rang over by her daughter and her youngest daughter brings it over to her. I see the contact name as "Mom" and SHE ANSWERS HER CELL PHONE RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. After deliberately listening to her conversation I came to the conclusion that "Mom" owns the hotel or something, as she's explaining the situation to this lady. I should have grabbed the phone and hung up and asked what was wrong with her and if she was raised by apes in the trailer park. All the while my girlfriend is outside looking at me through the car window hand signaling what in the world is going on. I motion the universal shoulder shrug, and while this is happening, her youngest daughter (maybe 7) brings a puppy on a leash behind the counter, and her oldest daughter (maybe 14) is taking a luggage cart to a room. First of all, where did that dog come from, and why are your kids your employees? I had to do a double take to make sure I wasn't in middle Asia or at the Shrine Circus. All of this while this Donna lady is with me at the desk and on her cell phone. I've never had a worse customer service experience. So Donna is trying to get her mom to find us a room in Antigo (by this time I've told my girlfriend the situation), and my girlfriend called all the listings in Google and there were no other rooms anywhere. I told Donna this and I must've been speaking Greek because she was too focused on her cell phone conversation to care what I had to say. She then suggests to her mom that they could give us two rooms that are no shows, and I'm thinking that it's only 9:30 at night, and that there is a possibility of them still showing (I have a trip in September where I won't be landing until 11:30 p.m. so the idea of just inconveniencing someone else wasn't appealing). I wasn't offered those rooms anyway, but I wouldn't want to put someone else in our situation had they shown later. I remained rather calm through everything so far, but I suggested that she get this cleared up before my dad showed up because he won't tolerate stuff like this. So my dad shows up, and it's not cleared up, and I had a cell phone conversation of my own with him to let him know we don't have any rooms, so he knows what's going on. He parks and walks in the lobby asks Donna what is going on (remember, she's the same lady that took his payment earlier that day). She said that our rooms were given away, and my dad pulls out his receipt and waves it in front of her like a soggy Hot Pocket, and asked what happened between 1:30 and now that the rooms were given away. Her only answer was, "I didn't give your rooms away." Nice job selling out your employees, Donna, maybe your kids gave them away. You took my dad's money without a problem. In the end we drove home 2 hours as did my parents that night. This zoo of a hotel is a laughable establishment with a low IQ in customer service. I would rather be stung repeatedly by bees and then drown in wallpaper paste than try to stay here again. Stay away! read more

My mom and I decided to take my grandfather back to his hometown of Antigo for his birthday. He hadn't been back in 60 years, and we thought this would be the perfect trip for him! We only booked one night at the Holiday Inn Express, but we could not extend our stay since the whole hotel was booked! So, I reserved the rooms with more than 24 hours notice, by the way.. We booked online for a room with two queen beds and a room with a sofa and a queen. My grandfather is apprehensive about falling out of bed, so I booked a room with a sofa. When we arrived, no one was at the front desk. After a few minutes, finally, someone showed up. He informed us that the room with a sofa was taken and that we could have a room with a king bed. After waiting forever to get room keys, we hauled our luggage inside of hallways filled with maid carts and buckets of dirty water. First, we went to set up my grandfather in his room, only to find that the dirty sheets were sitting on a chair and all of the soiled towels were heaped in a corner. I tried to call down to the office to see what was going on, and the phone would not call out! I called the hotel's phone number off of our hotel phone and was told someone would call me back. Finally! Someone called back and informed me that it would take 20 minutes to clean the room. At that point, I was irritated and snapped at the man at the main desk (Raj, I believe) that I specifically booked a room with a sofa for my 84 year old grandfather. After I snapped at Raj, he told me that they had a room with a sofa available. So, he lied to me about the room with a couch because no one wanted to deal with cleaning it. We waited and waited to hear about what was going on with the "sofa room", and that's when we met the maid, who was looking for her cleaning solution. Mind you, this was 7 o'clock in the evening. So, when check in is at 3, you still don't have ANY rooms clean and ready for guests checking in? Then she proceeded to rudely tell me that the hotel can't see what you specifically book because their "system was struck by lightening last week". Not only is she lazy, she's a terrible liar. So, after all of this, we finally get a dirty room with a sofa. The maid tells us it will take 20 minutes and to "hang out and relax" in the Great room, until she noticed that the staff had eaten pizza and left all of their mess. While we wait, my mother and I decided to check out the pool that was green and had bugs floating in it. While we were checking out the room with non-chlorinated swamp water, we noticed Raj and the rest of the hotel staff stumbling out of the woods by our hotel. After almost an hour, my grandfather's room was clean. On the walk to our room, we noticed that most of the room doors were propped open by the privacy latch. Being nosey, I poked my head into one of the rooms, to find them full of luggage, dirty clothes, hotel linens and a LOT of trash, overflowing out of large black trash bags. We decided to go grab a bite to eat and came back to lights flashing and a siren. Someone had pulled the fire alarm while we were gone, and we came back to our hotel room to our previously closed door propped open by the privacy latch (ew). We finally settled, and found that our televisions don't work and the phone in my room was connected, but did not work. Also, my mom went to check on Grandpa, and Raj was lurking outside of grandpa's door, startled, with a roll of toilet paper. Even at midnight, most of the doors on the first floor were propped open by the privacy latch. In the morning, the same unattended child who pulled the fire alarm was banging on our room's door. I have never felt so uncomfortable about the staff (of people who are obviously still in their 20s and I think live at the hotel?). I'm in my early 20's, and I could have run this place better myself. The staff are totally uninterested in their jobs, and for a hotel that's almost EMPTY, I'd expect for my room to be ready by the time I get there, especially 4 hours after check in. Was a bit nervous about staying here with reviews I had read but it was better then expected. We checked in very late but the guy at the front desk was very polite. We asked for an extra blanket and pillows and he was happy to help. The room seemed pretty clean. They were also ok with giving us a late check out. The hotel needs some updating but the price is cheaper for a reason. We would stay here again. read more

Great Value, Great Service, Clean Rooms. I will stay here again. Very attentive management. I stayed at the Hyatt Regency downtown Chicago this summer and paid big bucks, this hotel was cleaner than the Hyatt. My room had a small fridge and microwave, coffee maker and blowdryer. Water pressure was great also and lots of hot water. If you find yourself in Antigo, WI. give it a try. Its a simpler hotel, but a good value. read more

Stopped by to see if they had a room for the night, he said they were booked but offered me a room for 89$ with no shower and no TV. I took a pass and made the long drive home. The next weekend I went online and made a reservation for a room with 2 beds for a Saturday night and the price was 73$ with tax. I got a call about 6pm the day of the reservation asking if we were still going to stay there that night, and I said yes and we would be there in an hour or two. When I got there to check in I was overwhelmed by the smell of inncents. I asked if the room had two beds and the guy behind the counter didn't know and was not real quick to check. I had to ask him to look it up before I was going to sign the credit card slip. The room did have two beds so we got checked in and headed up to our room, we enter via the back room and once again the incests were pretty over whelming as well as the temps. It seemed warmer inside then it was outside. Once we got into the room the incense smell went away and we cranked up the AC. It took a few hours for the room to cool down, but by the time we got back to the room its was comfortable. The bathroom was really small, but there was soap and shampoo and plenty of towels. The linens were not the cleanest and the TV was pretty small. I didn't not get to use the pool, but it looked like the standard hotel pool. The free breakfast consisted of tang, stale English muffins and frosted flakes and whole milk. For the price you can get a better deal at some of the other chains in town. read more
