I lack words, really, for how awful this company is. I will just start with the latest. Today I called for the third time and sent my second email to get them to get their tank picked up. I changed companies four months ago because of long waits on phone, difficulty scheduling online, and no-shows with no explanation on deliveries. I navigated with difficulty through the automated system (because pick up your tank wasn't an option it recognized) then finally got a rep who couldn't speak clear enough English and spoke through a phone that was breaking up THEN said he was going to transfer me to someone who would "help me today" then dropped the call! Please save your time and money...Marsh Propane has been wonderful, professional, kind and trustworthy. I highly recommend them and can't even give Amerigas the one star it will require to post this. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. This is the worst customer experience I've ever had. They own our tank so we have no choice but to use them. But all they do is jerk us around and make you wait on the phone for hours just to speak to someone. Awful. read more

By far the most horrible propane provider out there. They installed a regulator on a gas line and ended up causing a gas leak. Told me they don't fix gas leaks and I'd have to call another company. Who installs gas piping and then doesn't fix the leaks they cause?? These people that's who. read more

I have been an Amerigas propane customer since 1992. I am a relatively small usage customer. I have paid their high per gallon price because it included the tank rental (if you buy a minimum amount of propane). Now they have an annual tank charge of $117 and the per gallon price is the same high price. I have switched propane provides. Amnerigas has sent me an invoice for a tank pickup fee of $69. Loyality does not pay in this case. My new propane provide has a $60/year tank rental and the propane price is $2.29 per gallon. The current Amerigas per gallon price is $4.85/gallon. I should have switched years ago. I suggest you shop around. There are several other propane providers in the area with fewer fees, lower prices and better customer service rating. read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would. The actual service the company provides is satisfactory - they fill the tank promptly and all that sort of stuff. The company itself and its customer service is absolutely some of the worst you can possibly find, bar none. As others have stated, they will inexplicably raise the rate per gallon you are paying to ridiculous levels (mine went from 2.80ish per gallon to 5.85 per gallon). When I inquired as to why, customer service responded that my original 2.80 rate was for "new customers" only and that I had fallen out of that particular category. The funny thing was, I had only been a customer for a month at that point. I had to call back 4 times before they realized their error and set my rate back to where it belonged. 3 months went by and the exact same thing happened again. I called again and was basically told to pound sand and that was just going to be my new rate. I ended up filing a complaint with the BBB. About a month later, I received a letter from Amerigas apologizing for the inconvenience and fixing the issue yet again. Unfortunately, you're no longer considered a valuable customer after 12 months, so that's when they are "supposed" to price gouge you per company policy. At that point, I decided to look for alternatives (which were very easy to find). I called Amerigas and told them I was switching propane providers. They told me that they do not refund for gas already purchased once they retrieve the tank (neat, a company that will steal from you on top of everything else - what more could you ask for?), and that I would be charged a service charge of $70 for them to come retrieve the tank. I then informed them that, under no circumstances, would I pay that service charge for them to get the tank, especially considering that I did not ever make a request for them to retrieve it (If they want the thing, they can get it, otherwise it could sit there and rot for all I care). I also noted that with the remaining gas they essentially would be stealing from me when they did pick the tank up, that it would more than make up for the service charge they were trying to levy upon me. It's been about 6 months since I cancelled my account and now they are trying to charge me just under 3 times what my original "final bill" was supposed to be. I'd be more than willing to talk it over with them, but I think they are more concerned with harassing current and former clients with inexplicable rate hikes and threatening letters (not to mention whenever they call me, they hang up immediately after I answer the phone). TL;DR - Do not, *UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES*, do business with these criminals. They will rake you over the coals every chance they get. read more

Amerigas has fallen off to the lowest in customer service. We ordered and paid for gas this past Sunday. It was delivered today ( Thursday). The driver left a note on the door saying nobody home for him to do leak test. There were 3 vehicles in our driveway and 5 people in the house. Never knocked on door. Too lazy to do the job correctly. Now, with temperatures heading into the teens, we are told we must wait until January 5th to get a leak test and have access to gas already paid for. This is unacceptable. Good luck calling. I spent over 3 hours this week alone on hold or explaining our situation over and over. Bottom line, don't use Amerigas. They are terrible read more

We used Amerigas 9 years ago, and had nothing but problems. They would not show up for scheduled fills (most times), no customer service and the phone would ring for 30 minutes, with nobody picking up. After weeks of trying to reach someone, nobody would show for another scheduled fill. Best thing we did was cancel their service. From what we understand, Amerigas was sued via class action lawsuit and a new business license would not be given to the same owners. So we signed up in September, crossing our fingers that the new owners had straightened out the miserable service the old owners supplied. And its NOT looking good. Every time we call to pay a bill, we're told there is a late charge - and the payment is on time. We've been told we had no payment plan twice, which we do. The individual could barely speak English, and apparently, can't understand it either. Im afraid of whats going to happen once our gas runs low again. Nine years ago, we waited 2 months for gas, and had to use our fireplace for warmth. Apparently, the new owners are related to the old owners, and its looks like nothing has improved. Buyers BEWARE! Steer clear from the problems you will certainly encounter. This company doesn't deserve one star. I see another class action suit in their future. read more

Update 9/2015: Over the last few months I've managed to work my way down from corporate management to the new local manager. They agreed to credit my account for some of the over-priced gas they delivered. Early this year they came twice to fill my tank in a period of just a couple months (1,000 gallons - it lasts a full year) and of course charged me delivery fees, taxes, etc etc. They agreed to remove those fees as well. This earned them another star. Today I received a bill for over $200 for tank rent - so yet another call to the office to get my bill squared away. They did remove the fee, but I'm so tired of having to call for every single bill because something is wrong about it. My previous recommendation stands - do whatever you can to buy your own tank! Then you can shop around and pick the company with the best price at every fill. That being said, the new local management does seem to want to do what's right and was willing to work with me on my issues. read more

BOTTOM LINE UP FRONT: STAY AWAY FROM AMERIGAS If it is in your power to choose any other propane service provider, please, Please, PLEASE! choose that other option. This organization will make assertions that service will be provided promptly and will be MORE than glad happy to take substantial sums of money, but they will not follow through with their promises. It is currently 53 degrees INSIDE my house, and it has been for the last week and a half, and Amerigas has been sitting on their thumbs not fulfilling their obligations. I have been warned to stay away from this company, and I did not listen. Please consider this a plea to anyone in the market for propane services in the metro-Richmond, Mechanicsville, Ashland, Petersburg, Louisa- area, DO NOT CHOOSE AMERIGAS!!!!!! Rent a tank from any other organization, and sit it right next to the Amerigas tank. Even if it costs slightly more, you will probably be much happier with mediocre service from someone else than the horrible service you are practically guaranteed to receive from this monumentally dysfunctional and discourteous "company". read more

I have been a Amerigas customer for over 20 years with two accounts. They have changed the requirements several times to where they now charge you to call them for prices before you fill up ($7.00), to requiring you to buy twice the amount of the original agreement to avoid a now $129 tank rental. I sized my tank to meet the original requirement, now they have made unilateral changes to their policies to make sure they get a tank rental charge each year. Their price per gal is the highest in the area, and when you ask a customer service person, they tell you it is the market price. When you call Southern States or Quales or Tractor Supply the cost is almost a $1 a gallon less. Amerigas does not want you a customer, just someone to gouge.... Shop around, I did.... read more

I have always had a good experience with Amerigas. The customer service team did iron out some issues I had when I first signed up, everyone was friendly and did seem to genuinely care about resolving my concerns. As I had wanted to be notified before I received a fillup which they do . Also the team member who came out when first signing up, reviewed all the content and explained to me how the service would run so I could talk to someone in person. The delivery drivers are always friendly and take the time to talk to you. Amerigas seems like a hometown company and I am very satisfied thus far. read more

This company charged me the same rate from the last two years when the price had dropped 200%. They agreed to lower the price one dollar but then charged me a $78 tank rental fee to make up the difference. The reason for such high prices "well sir, you only use a 100 gallons a year". You're better off with a competitor. read more

One star is generous! I have had Amerigas since 2003 and recently they placed an unauthorized tank at another property and continue sending bills for an annual lease of 135.84 adding $36 late fees every month (yes every month). The cost of the tank at a big box store is $111 to purchase. I have called 4 times to request a copy of the lease as I am not on it and they have yet to provide it. I was told the documents were stored at another office. I asked to call that office and was told it is not an operating office and they would need to retrieve it when someone was over there. I have also requested they remove the tank that is full. They informed me I would be billed $104 for pick up. I suppose once I send the civil suit they will be forced to retrieve and review their contract. If you have time to waste and enjoyed being degraded by the office staff, Amerigas is your company. I recommend finding a reputable company that will listen should something like this occur. My next call will be to remove the tank they placed in 2003. Thankfully, they were too busy to fill my new home and I used the company the former owners used and have no issues. read more

If you are an individual looking to heat a small home or even use for gas logs, AmeriGas is not the company for you. They will add up to $1.80 to market value on their propane because you don't purchase enough. After having the tank on my property for 14 years they are now billing me a tank rental fee of $176.84. When you call they will tell you that you don't purchase enough so you should pay more. Enough said ? read more

Since my last review, I was contacted by a supervisor who told me that my bill would be ZERO'd out- they would come pick up my tank and call it quits. They came and picked up the tank, but then called to remind me of my bill that I owed and then sent another bill with a remaining balance. I was credited for the propane that was returned, but none of the "fees" that went along with that original delivery that I should never have received. In addition (and this is being greedy at this point), you will also not get credited for any unused propane from previous deliveries. So that 50% that was still in my tank- paid for and never used- back to them free!! Yippee. read more

They dropped the ball from almost the first phone call. I emailed my paperwork back to the person that sent it to me. She never contacted me. I called twice and left her messages to set up the installation and she never returned my phone calls. I called a third time and finally someone else helped me set up the installation. The date of the installation came with heavy snow so we assumed no one would show (which was understandable). However, we NEVER received a phone call to notify us or to reschedule. We waited...over a week. We finally called in. They couldn't find our account. They could only locate a previous account we had at this address. When they Finally located our account they said we never had an installation scheduled. When they finally did see that we had been on the schedule after all (for the day after the snowstorm) they said that all those people had already been rescheduled, however we never received a phone call. We were told they couldn't fit us in for WEEKS even though they had dropped the ball. We were finally told that their installation guys were going to work on a Sunday because they were behind, so they could fit us in on that day only or we had to wait for weeks. We were planning on being out of town that weekend but that was the only option given to us. We had to come home early from a scheduled trip to accommodate the installation that was supposed to have happened already. We were told we would be the very FIRST call of the day. I got up early thinking they would arrive early. When the guys finally arrived, they were very friendly. That is the only good thing I have to say about he company. However, they did mention that they were heading home after our installation because we were their LAST stop of the day and someone should be here within two days to fill our tank. After another week and no contact from the company, I called to see if they were going to fill our tank. Again, they couldn't find our account. When they did find it, they said we were on the schedule for the next day to have our tank filled. I have a sneaking suspicion that we were forgotten about...AGAIN. I was told I would recieve a bill. Haven't received anything yet. I guess I'm going to have to call about that too. This is one of the worst experiences we've ever had with a company. It shouldn't be up to the customer to connect the dots and call in about each step of the process. Not to mention be ignored and forgotten about. I will tell everyone I come across to run the other way and look for ANY other company to use. If they aren't the worse Gas Company in the area I don't know who would qualify. read more

CHOOSE SOMEONE ELSE! Worse customer service ever! Paid $500 to have a tank buried in our yard. They tore our yard all the hell doing it, never came to fix it or do anything about the mess. I called and called and called. Continued to charge a yearly fee of $160 for the tank. So now I have paid for the tank to be buried, filled and paid every year for it to sit in my ground. Recently called to have it removed. They charge a $39 fee to come unhook it and $0.35 to pump out any old gas in the tank.........THEN you have to either pay a contractor to remove the tank from the ground or do it yourself BEFORE they will come pick up their own tank. Otherwise they keep charging you $160 a year for a tank your not using! This place is a joke! read more

Update 11-10-16- They just sent me a bill for $59.99 on top of keeping the gas in the tank I already paid for and they won't refund. Horrible customer service! If I could give zero stars I would. Horrible customer service. Like other reviewers, I experienced problems with overcharging as well. But, what prompted me to write my first online review ever was their policy on cancelling your account when you move. I have a full tank of propane that's been paid for. I called them to cancel my account and inquired about a refund. They said they can't give me a refund because they can't pump propane out of my tank. They then offered to pick up my tank, paid for propane and all. Then can I get a refund? No, no I couldn't. I was told that's their policy. So, what are they going to do with the full tank they pick up from my property? My guess is sell it to another customer and get paid twice for the same propane. Quite a racket! read more
