I heard about Justin via Tippr deals, and booked an appointment to see him. It's impressive how…read morewell he runs his practice by himself and pays attention to detail. A couple days prior to my appointment, I received an email reminder from him, and a phone call reminder the day before. His practice is located in Suite 111 in a small professional plaza just off Main St. I had to call him in order to find it, but here are some tips for other new clients: once you park in the little lot and are facing the building, go towards the left by the stairs. Once you find Suite 111, enter the door and he's in the second room on the right. Justin is very professional and friendly. I filled out a brief history form and he asked if I wanted the full body massage or more focused on back/neck/shoulders. I opted for the latter since I know how tight those areas are for me. He started out more gentle, but I have pretty high tolerance to pain so I asked him to increase the pressure, which he did. It was still relaxing, but I could definitely feel where the tightness and knots were once he increase the pressure. There were some places I wasn't aware of before! :P At the end, he offered me water and we sat down for a friendly chat, and he gave me some tips for paying attention to my tight shoulders when using the computer. *checking right now...* I highly recommend seeing Justin for your massage therapy needs! I used a Tippr deal since I'm currently a poor and unemployed new grad, but regular massages are definitely going to be on my priority list soon. :)

I was gifted a session with them by a friend who was intrigued by the idea of a four-handed massage. At first I was a bit distracted trying to track whose hands were doing what, but I gave that up soon enough and surrendered to the duet. These two are well attuned, so that even when working asynchronously--e.g. one doing trigger points on my neck/shoulders, the other, Swedish on my legs--their energies blend. The quality of their individual and combined touch is informed by caring, intuitive knowing, and skill. Which meant I could relax. As an energy-sensitive former bodywork practitioner, quality of touch is my sine qua non. Bonus #1: Dan and Mariana work from their beautiful home in a wooded cul-de-sac. Their beautifully appointed healing room is the most spacious I've ever seen, and their table has all the comforts--including double-thick upholstery on the face cradle so that one's cheek or brow isn't pressing painfully into the wooden base. I had a hard time peeling myself off that 20- square-foot piece of heaven at the end. Bonus #2: They take the time beforehand to interview their clients about health issues, touch preferences, expectations, and goals for the session. Afterwards, they took additional time with me to talk about their evolution over the years as students of the healing arts. Finally, some days later they followed up with a warm email of appreciation, making additional health-related suggestions and attaching several pages of illustrated trigger point work I could practice at home. The location is close to downtown and has it's own parking area. I went to Amber because I was having some intense neck pains. She spent almost the entire hour working on that part of my body trying to help relieve the pain. I really appreciated how she went back and forth between using hot and cold temperatures and she seemed very present during the whole massage. She used a nice pressure and seemed to be very in tune with my body and my muscles. I felt SO much better after the massage and was completely relaxed. I can't wait to go back again.

I had exhausted all of my groupon options for cheap(er) massages and I took to Yelp to find a great local body work practitioner. Omra was a page back, but I really liked the sound and look of the place so I decided to schedule myself an appointment. Amber, my masseuse, scheduled me an appointment within three days of my call, which I'm sure you know around here is a big deal, some places are booked out for weeks ahead of schedule. She was willing to fit me in on the end of one of her standard scheduled days, so I was grateful before I even stepped foot through the door. Omra is located at a great space with an actual parking lot. Man, that is awesome. Up a couple of flights of stairs in a large shared building and you enter a magically relaxing room. It's cozy as cozy can be. It doesn't feel sterile, it feels loved, and well maintained. There's decorations all around the room that give this place a homey charm. It's like being invited into someone's house. Thoroughly relaxing. I'd love to give you the play by play of my 75 minute massage, but the fact is, it kind of knocked me out. I was put into this kind of weird half awake half dream state, where the massage felt like the longest, and most brief thing that has ever happened. The amount of pressure was perfect, even when I thought I wanted a bit more pressure to work out some sort of knot or twist I felt within my muscles I felt them relaxing and easing up. I've always ping ponged between places offering groupons, which I'm sure were a way to get me in the door of many of the spas, sanctuaries, and massage houses here in Asheville, but I never felt connected to them. Their rates without the groupon were well out of my budget. However, my full priced treatment at Omra was only slightly more than I've spent on deals at other places in the past, including the tip! I don't look forward to the next time that I need a massage, but at least I feel confident knowing that I have a prefered source of aid and relief when I do.
