I had an amazing experience this morning at Still Point Wellness. I signed up for one of the sensory deprivation experiences. I realize that SD may not be for everyone and I'm not reviewing that but the moment I walked in the door the place felt good. The person working the front desk was kind and seemed to really care how my experience went. The facility was clean, tidy, and I felt fully prepared mentally and physically to step into a pitch black tank and float for an hour. I'll be honest, I went in there pretty anxious and walked out on cloud 9. If you haven't tried sensory deprivation, I recommend looking into it and going to SPW. It's pretty cheap for what you get. I haven't tried massage there yet but I'll be going there for that really soon. All of the massage rooms looked really nice! One last thing, after my SD experience, they made me a hot tea and I laid down on their sofa with a weighted blanket on me for about 30 minutes. I had never experienced a weighted blanket before and I was sold! read more

I have always wanted to try float therapy and the opportunity came up when I was visiting Asheville. I booked my service online for a 90 minute float - which is the recommended length for a first float. I checked in at Still Point Wellness about 20 minutes before my appointment. They had me remove my sandals immediately to leave under a bench near the reception desk. They provided new footwear so I didn't have to walk around barefoot. I waited in their waiting area until it was time for my treatment. About 7 minutes past my scheduled appointment time, the receptionist ended up leading me to my float therapy room. She explained the process and then left me to it. I was nervous at first just thinking about being alone with my thoughts in a dark, small room, but it honestly was easy to get used to and a nice break from the real world. My only complaint is I don't think the water was warm enough. They said the temperature would be around 95 degrees and it is supposed to mirror the human body temperature. However, I found the water to be very lukewarm in the center of the float tank. For some reason whenever I was near the wall of the float tank, it was the ideal warm temperature for me. When the 90 minutes were up, soft music started playing and a blue light turned on in the float tank. They have a private shower in the float tank room so make sure you wash all the salt off you. Overall, I would definitely do float therapy again and hope it was just a one off with the temperature. read more

It's been a few years since I visited Still Point to try the floatation tank. This time the wellness center has move; it is now on Tunnel Rd in new zen digs. What a beautiful calm comforting interior. I was happy to see the lovely fish tank made the move. This visit is covered by a gift card which I decided to use for an Esalen massage with Sanne. What a delightful, kind, and in-tune massage therapist she is. She lives up to her bio: "a practice of non judgemental awareness of our body, our breath, our mind." Her lovely energy combined with an intuitive touch led to a delightful and therapeutic massage. A hour is sufficient but my next massage will certainly be longer. I purposely have not described the experience from walking in the front door and moving to the massage room. Enjoy it, feel it, and be aware of the deep relaxation that will set in. read more

A group of 8 women who have been friends for 35+ years chose Asheville this year for our annual get together. We chose this destination for many reasons, but we were specifically looking for a spiritual location with a reputable spa to incorporate a spa day into our time. Still Point Wellness had outstanding reviews and we were interested in the many options for relaxation that it offered; Float tanks, Esalen Massage, Meditation, etc. Drew was extremely helpful in helping to coordinate our large group. He made what (to me) seemed complex, very easy to schedule. Upon arrival, we started with a didgeridoo meditation session with the owner, Corey Costanzo. WOW! This experience was on a whole other level! In addition to the didge, he played a number of relaxing instruments and spoke to us about the bond that we share, while helping us to escape every day life and relax. It was almost as if he'd known us for many years. WILD! I literally had tears of happiness flowing down my cheeks. It was beautiful! We were then escorted to our float and massage appointments. The team at Still Point were all warm and friendly and extremely talented. I truly had one of the best massage experiences here. The entire facility is very clean and gorgeous! There's a beautiful fish tank in the middle of the lounge. What a great way to continue relaxing in between treatments with a cup of tea! If you've never floated in a sensory deprivation tank before, I highly recommend it. There truly are no words for the experience. By the time our group left for the day, we were all very happy and extremely relaxed. Wow!! I was gifted with a float and massage combo package, and I could not be more pleased with my experience. I was pampered with soft towels and robes and scented soaps. The float tank was perfect, absolute darkness in perfectly warmed salt water! I was drifting in space for what felt like days and seconds at the same time. Then the best massage of my life. Received a gift for a float. I am from out of town and have done 3 floats in my hometown of Gulf Shores, AL. The float tank here was completely different from my other experiences. Water was no way near hot enough. There are visible pumps in the tank that you sometimes float into ( very odd sensation) Inside the tank looks like they just put black plastic everywhere. There was one towel! I don't know many females who only use one towel when showering. There was no comb or anything to brush the salt from your hair afterward. Ear plugs were very cheap and kept falling out; which eventually led to me leaving my paid for float 30 minutes early. Disappointed and would not return. read more

I was so happy with my experience here. The service was really great and the entire atmosphere is very peaceful, friendly, and calming. They have you fill out a long form before coming in (I recommend you do this online before your appointment). They ask about sensitivities or specific requests and are very polite and accommodating to specific requests or unique concerns. They use aromatherapy and a lot of different techniques to relax your muscles. I was visiting Asheville for a weekend trip and this was a great activity between hiking and visiting local restaurants/breweries. I received a 90 minute float and a 75 minute massage as a gift. I'd never done a float before so I was a little nervous. The atmosphere of the place is quiet and peaceful - the giant fish tank is mesmerizing. I was led into the float room, which is a changing room/bathroom/shower room with the float tank just behind a small door. It was much more shallow than I thought it would be. It was extremely relaxing and I found myself - not asleep but very, very relaxed. The time really flew by. After I showered off I was led into the massage room where I go the most amazing Esalen massage - a technique that involves long strokes on one side of the body at a time. By the time I left, I felt like a puddle and was wishing I'd gotten a hotel room nearby although the drive home was just 20 minutes. Yes I would do it again in a heartbeat! read more

I booked a 90 min Esalen massage with Eric Poage and I can't recommend him or the facility enough. Although the building exterior is unassuming, the inside is clean, calming and welcoming. You will need to leave your shoes up front, but they provide slippers if you want to use them. After check-in, they take you to their lovely integration room where you sit in a low lit waiting area that has a beautiful aquarium, comfortable sofas and chairs, complementary tea/water as well as heated neck pillows and weighted blankets. It was the perfect way to get my mind and body ready for my appointment. Eric was calm, gentle and kind while walking through his process and explained the Esalen massage method very well. He made me feel safe and comfortable throughout the entire message process making sure to communicate at the appropriate times. I recently relocated temporarily to the Asheville area to care for my dear father in his last months. After his death my daughter gave me a gift certificate for a flotation tank session at Still Point. It was just the thing I needed. The receptionist explained everything I needed to feel comfortable enough to enter a dark meat locker type of space by myself, get into salted water nude, close the heavy door and float for an hour and a half. That is trust. Before my session I relaxed by watching tropical fish in a salt water tank. I then entered a clean and calm space--two rooms essentially-- with a sink and changing area on one part and a shower and the tank in the adjacent space. The tank has air and water that are the same temp - 94 degrees. When I floated in the pitch dark and quiet i couldn't tell which parts of me were in water and which were in the air. There is so much salt you float very high in the water. After a little bit of bouncing off the walls I let the turbulence settle and floated in the middle of the tank. I stretched a little and settled into a position that felt open and relaxing. My mind wandered and I wondered if I would "drop in" as they say. It takes time for a newbie but I did. I got to some good and helpful feelings and insights to take forward into my life after the loss of my father and the new beginning it represents. The salt floatation tank was something I always wanted to try and I picked an awesome place to try it! The environment is very relaxing, all the employees speak in soft tones, they have yummy tea for you and a really cool salt water fish tank in the lounge. Ashley even remembered me when I called a month later to book an appointment for my brother! The staff is really nice and helpful! My mother has MS and tried the tank as well. She said it was so helpful that she slept through the entire night for the first time in a while without pain (as well as sleeping in the tank)! I asked for complete quiet during the massage, no talking. He talked throughout the whole thing. I said if I was uncomfortable, Id let him know. He asked if I was confortable for the entire hour. I was but now I cant relax bc you keep talking. The flooring doesnt have sufficient padding underneath, so you can hear everyone who passes by the room. Cheap hand wash soap and toilet paper. These therapists are supposed to be instructors. I dont know why they cannot understand a simple silence request from a client. read more

This space is so aptly named. Through the use of Salt Water Flotation, Esalen Massage, Somatic Psychology and a range of other practices, the buzz of outer distraction fades as the still point settles within and around you. I'm not writing this as an Ashevillian easily turned on by the glow of new ventures in wellness. I'm writing this any any other curious person who makes an appointment in the hope that "something different" will create a more harmonious space in life. The something different in this case was Salt Water Flotation, in which you are resting atop the surface of skin temperature water in a specially built chamber to provide zero sensorial inputs. I grew up calling this "sensory deprivation," and since reading John Lilly in my teens I've wanted to do this. Now, a great difference lies between a "sense dep tank" and Still Point's flotation chamber. You have a space outside the chamber to yourself, to prepare. There's no sense of being enclosed, as the space itself is quite large, and fresh oxygen is pumped in continually before you enter the ozone-filtered waters. My mind and body ran slightly amok at first, not knowing how to handle an environment that's very much like "Zero G" with only the brain's clamoring for inputs to contend with at first. Then, still point. The "you" gets out of the way, and a relaxing, stimulating and deeply personal journey begins. When your time is up, the transition is gentle, and your hosts not only give you amply time to collect yourself, but also create the perfect atmosphere to debrief, share your experiences, and just be at peace. Still Point is amazing... Corey, Thank you SO much for your hospitality to me and my wife during our visit at Still Point! We both had our first experience with a float tank at Still Point and I also had a massage while there. This was definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Asheville. Its hard to even put to words to what I experienced during both the message and in the float tank. Both experiences were chances to take a deep inward look at myself. Which is exactly what I was looking for. Its something I still think about daily since being there. The massage was by far the best I've ever had and being a sound engineer I found the use of instruments and sounds to be very moving. At times even feeling out of body during. What a wonderful experience.. And then the float tank showed me all kinds of things about myself, at times fear came into my mind but I was able to work through it, I felt areas of my body where I hold tension that I never even realized I did before and by the end of the session I felt it dissipate. By the end of the session I felt a complete loss of self and was surprised when it was over and realized I was actually floating in a tank. I will definitely be doing that again. What an amazingly blissful experience! My first float and I was a little anxious about feelings of claustrophobia! But in total darkness, you just experience peace and expansiveness! Whatever tension I was feeling in my body dissipated immediately. ((Tend to carry stress in my neck and shoulders but that didn't last for long.) An amazing experience. I had a 75 minute esalen massage with Robin and then a 90 minute float. The massage with Robin was perfect; releasing, comforting,and balancing energetically. The atmosphere was just right and Robin's presence and touch is very healing and gentle. Robin is very skilled at what she does and her years of experience shine through in her work.
