Great location near Amsterdam Centraal and nice ambience as soon as you walk in. We had to change rooms as the AC in our room broke and was leaking. Sadly, we were there during the hottest time in Amsterdam history; literally, they have never had a Red Warning for heat until we were there, lol! Even in our new room, the AC couldn't get the room as cool as we needed. They tried and said, "Well, this isn't the States." Their establishments aren't prepared for 103 degrees! They also have a nice Ask for a Plant program where they will send a plant friend to your room for your stay and will plant a tree somewhere for everyone who asks for a plant. They are also not stingy with giving out bottles of water (the tap water is safe there, but nice to have environmentally friendly bottles for wandering during the day). Social hour from 4-5 is nice, though I wish they had more variety in the choices. On one of the super hot days, they were handing out ice cream as people returned from the heat of the day. Breakfast is included in the room rate and it was decent. The bar on site is fairly hip and makes good cocktails. We had a nice stay while in Amsterdam; thanks, Kimpton!

The hotel is quaint, comfortable and the staff is incredibly welcoming, accommodating and friendly. Complimentary breakfast every morning is a bonus. The buffet consists of an overwhelming variety of freshly made food: eggs, bacon, fruit, pancakes..the list goes on; basically you start your day with a full belly and wallet! I have been back to Amsterdam several times since and each time, while I must admit to having researched other hotels, I have ultimately booked with the Rokin. It is centrally located; within walking distance to the train station, red light district and many other attractions one would want to visit in the city. The area surrounding the hotel feels very safe..even after dark. *Of course as per recommendation from any traveler, no matter where you are, just be sure to keep your wits about you* My most recent visit was this past April and I am happy to report my affinity for this hotel has not diminished in the slightest. The rooms are still clean and spacious. I was traveling with two others during this particular visit, and this was my first stay in a 3-person room at Rokin. Not a single complaint! We had plenty of space in the room and there was even a television, not that we utilized it much. All is still amazing; overall yet another excellent experience! Everyone I interacted with there was professional, helpful, and friendly. Unfortunately, the good service at the front desk didn't extend to the rest of the hotel. The bar and Lotti's restaurant were both consistently understaffed, and the service was extremely slow. Lotti's also seemed to be out of a lot of the main dishes, even though the menu is already pretty limited. As for the rooms, they were okay, but felt a little worn and could really use some updating. Nothing terrible, but for what the hotel charges, I think you should be able to expect a bit more comfort and quality. After checking out the W Hotel nearby, which was much nicer for a similar price, I couldn't help but feel disappointed. For nearly $4500 after taxes for three nights in two rooms at the Hoxton, I honestly felt a bit cheated. Again, the front desk team deserves credit, but overall, I think the Hoxton needs to step up its game to justify these rates.

One tip - they left little snacks on the desk in the room and we never ate any of them thinking we'd be charged minibar prices. It turns out they were little gifts. There are lots of restaurants and markets nearby. The lobby is great with lots of books and seating areas, and has a fantastic bar. The staff is super courteous (shoutout to the amazing BeBe at reception) and nice. Checking in is mostly automated, but there will usually be someone there standing by to help out. If you need someone, there's always someone around. I really enjoyed the buffet breakfast. It was delicious (they even have "poffertjes" Dutch mini pancakes!) and if you don't want to have the €19 buffet breakfast in the hotel, there's a fantastic and extremely popular bakery (Bakhuys) just out the front door to the left as you exit that serves a great breakfast as well. Also, just to the right as you exit, there's a full-service restaurant (Lempicka) that also serves food, so you have lots of choices close by in the neighborhood. The rooms here seem slightly larger than the other CitizenM hotels I've been in and the space is optimized to the fullest. There are drawers underneath the bed to hold luggage as well as a room safe, there's a mini fridge under the wash basin and the bathroom is separate and has a great rain shower. Everything is fully automated, and I really liked my room that was on the main street because I could see things go by, but you can also get a very quiet room in an inside courtyard. Almost everything in the room is controlled from the provided iPad tablet, or you can also download the CitizenM app on your phone and do it all from your phone! The mood lighting effects are really fun and you can control basically everything remotely, including the window blinds. You can even select the days you want housekeeping. It's usually a better deal to book directly through CitizenM and they have their own app (they give multiple day discounts and have a paid subscription discount booking service) but I also found really good deals with booking.com so make sure you check that out. Two things I really love about this hotel that I only discovered after a couple of days was that first of all, you can rent a bike for free all day long! Just ask them at the reception. The other thing I love is that on each floor, there is a clothes "ironing room ", which is a large room (featuring the consistently cool decoration of the hotel with illustrations on the walls and neat fixtures) with a powerful steam iron and an ironing board that you can use yourself. It even has clips to hang up clothes if you need to. So convenient and this is a really nice feature. I used the ironing room several times and I always had it completely to myself. The lobby almost feels like a sanctuary when you get back to the hotel after a busy day walking; it has lots of seating and nice books you can read. I just love this hotel. CitizenM was recently bought out by the Marriott corporation so also check online because there may be some new things going on! They provide large glass bottles downstairs, which you can refill with still or sparkling water at the bar for free. This is so nice.

Had a small 2 person couch that was below the TV looking at the bed, we had to rearrange the room to make any sense. Had no wash clothe and 2 towels. But, no drawers is just beyond reason, if all their hotels are like this, the designer should be fired.

Our room had a view of the canal and the beds were super comfortable. The hotel is right next to a school, so it can get a little crowded out front in the mornings/afternoons, but it was quiet from the room. They also held our bags for us after check-out so we could explore the city until we had to leave. The market area downstairs was super convenient (very over-priced, but to be expected from a hotel). They had beer, wine, soda, water, and a lot of snack options for a quick grab-and-go. We stopped there almost daily for convenience. We didn't try the food from their restaurant since there were so many nearby cafes and restaurants, but they had good offerings. They also had the cutest lobby/work-spaces available to use. Cons -- housekeeping seemed to come later in the afternoon, so we missed out on our room cleaning a couple of times when we came to rest in the afternoon. They also had 2 false fire alarms go off, two days in a row. Aside from that, it was a great stay and I would absolutely stay again and recommend them to others! One of the real secrets is the "Butcher" it's on the main floor it's a Social Club / restaurant. The food is creative well prepared and most importantly Delicious ! I had the Benedict Burger sounds curious but trust me it's delicious.
