Great beach if you like to wade in the calm, relaxing ocean waves! The water isn't very clear because of sand, so this isn't the best beach to snorkel. If you come to this beach, definitely check out the lava lava beach club!

The beach access road leads you to a parking lot behind lava lava beach club. The parking lot a paid lot. We paid $37 to park. We didn't know if there was anywhere we could park that wasn't charged for. If you do eat at lava lava, then they validate parking. You will need to bring your own chairs, towels, etc. if you're facing the beach, the right side has softer sand and some shade from palm trees, but it's mostly unshaded. To the left, it is quieter with less people and some areas of shade, but you will have more rock. The day we went, the winds picked up and it got a little cool, so we didn't end up going into the ocean, but the water is clear and it did have some waves to it. They do have clean bathrooms and outdoor shower to rinse off right at the entrance. Bring your snacks if you don't want to eat from lava lava.

Cute little sandy beach with smaller gentle waves. There are some trees if you would like a shady spot to hang out. Clean toilet/shower area. Free parking. Very clean beach with clear water and a relaxing view.

Sandy beach with gentle waves. Trees provide some shady spots. Free parking lot not too far from the beach. Restrooms available.

We visited this beach to access a whale watching tour. Lots of families and couples were enjoying the beach and the water as we walked to our boat. The water was cool, and the sand was easier to traverse near the water. We sunk in deeply between the surf and beach area! We wish we had discovered this area prior to the day before leaving. It was not too crowded, and had a beautiful view of the horizon and surrounding areas. When we were done with our whale watch, we took advantage of the shower stations for rinsing off feet and Crocs.

The beach is nice for sitting on Bring a chair there are no places to rent chairs- you can sit on a wall under a tree. They do have an outdoor shower and a bathroom. There is a bar but No takeout Water is really rocky it was cloudy but we did see some fish and turtles

Beautiful beach, plenty of shade. Good parking. Will come here again. Next to a fish pond which looks beautiful

One of the most scenic beaches I have come across on the Big Island of Hawaii and the Kona Coast! Shoreline parking is plentiful, though it is a bit of a walk from your vehicle to the actual beach. There were lots of families and groups enjoying the beach underneath the shade of the palm trees. Interesting how the beach is set up right behind the pond and the Marriot Waikoloa. Water is calm for the most part, though parts of the beach and bay can be rocky at times.

One of the most beautiful beaches we've seen during our 18 visits to Hawaii. We take the Hilton Grand Vacations shuttle running 10 minutes and 40 minutes on the hour at the lower level of Hilton Waikoloa Village lounge. At King's shops, we get off the bus and walk north 0.2 miles on Waikoloa Beach Drive, and turn left on Kolea Kai Circle, walking through the public parking lot, with a 4 hour time limit, and then 0.3 miles toward the ocean. We pass some lagoons with olive green waters, and reach the half moon shaped beach.  Brilliant green and blue colors, fairly shallow beach, maybe 200 yards long at most, with palm trees for shade, and beach lounge chairs, courtesy of the next door Marriott, available to the public on a first come first serve basis.     Restroom appears, where the snorkelers can change from street clothes into snorkeling gear. Today, however, water is too rough with high winds, nobody snorkeling. 12pm Lava Lava Club opens, and is filled in minutes with people sitting down at the restaurant with a view of the Bay. Evening approaching, and people will wait hours to get a view of the sunset, live music, and hula girls. And you don't have to pay $150 for Legends of Hawaii luau! If you walk to the beach for the sunset, you can't go back through Kolea Kai Circle, as the gate to the pedestrian walkway is locked at 7pm. You have to walk 0.6 miles on the Ku'uali Place from the Lava Lava Club, past the paved beach parking area, and around on unpaved road, with no sidewalk and no street lights at night, before coming to King's Shops. Wear bright clothing, bring a flashlight and arm band reflectors. Don't want to become road kill!

I love A-Bay! Not only is A-Bay a clean, safe beach, but it is absolutely beautiful too. Located in Waikoloa right behind the Marriott, it is easily accessible to all of the other properties in the area. My only itty bitty complaint is that there is only one bathroom, and it is all the way down at the main entrance. The bathroom is super clean (for a beach), but it's so far from all the activity. Otherwise, A-Bay is a perfect beach!

Beautiful trees right near the water

Great beach with easy access and a variety of things to do. We saw people surfing, paddling, snorkeling, etc. there are a few tide pools for kids to play around. Waves were pretty calm in this small when we came. Trees offer shades and good spots to sit under. Located inside the Hilton Waikoloa Village but a public beach with a good size parking lot. Good beach for families as there are tide pools, often sighting of turtles and some feral but pretty friendly cats here. Restaurants and markets close by.

Pretty good size Free public parking. Beach shoes are a must especially for kids. Bathrooms were clean and had toilet paper/soap. You can rent equipment for water activities. Yay!!

On the negative side, it is a looooooooooong walk. Literally a 1/2 mile from the valet to the Ocean Tower. There is a tram, but if you miss it, you could be waiting over a 1/2 hour for the next one, and the pace of the tram is less than a modestly paced walk. Luckily, we went from the airport to Costco and we could drop off our box of groceries and case of water with the valet. Otherwise, it would have been a really tough hike to the room. The room itself was nice. Small kitchenette with really dull knives and limited pans and cooking utensils, but there is a blender and rice cooker. The second bedroom had no windows, but the master was great, with a small private balcony and the master bath had a tub and a shower, with a bidet toilet seat.

That was a mistake we will not make again. 1) We agreed to attend a timeshare presentation at 11:15 AM that I was genuinely excited for because we want to build family memories. We dragged our kids out of bed, skipped the morning pool time, and showed up on time because we are people who honor our commitments. We waited 25 minutes. Nobody came. I had to walk to the lobby myself to find out that THEY forgot about US, and had the audacity to ask if we wanted to reschedule. An entire morning of our vacation, gone. 2)We booked a manta ray snorkel through the activities desk. We loaded our kids into the car, drove 40 minutes, and showed up excited for what was supposed to be the highlight of our trip. It was cancelled. No call. No text. No email. Nothing. We stood there having wasted an entire evening, gas money, and the gut-punch of watching our kids' faces fall. An entire night of our vacation, gone. Again, for nothing. 3) Luau scam beware. We received a complimentary luau as part of our arrangements, one we would have never sought out or paid for on our own. When we tried to cancel everything because this resort had burned us twice, we were told we would be charged full price. Let that sink in. They failed us repeatedly, and when we tried to walk away, they demanded we pay full price for something we never independently wanted. That is not hospitality. That is a trap. This corporation took 2 out of our 5 vacation days not through enforceable circumstances but through sheer negligence, arrogance , an obviously broken system and zero accountability. And then they had the nerve to charge us for the privilege. Americans bust their backs all year for a handful of days off. We do not take vacations lightly. We do not have the luxury of "just booking another trip." This was it. Forget the money. THE TIME. And Hilton Waikoloa Village treated our time like it was worthless. Time Is precious. Jacob at concierge was the only positive to this story. He was the one who initially booked everything for me but this was out of his hands. This falls on the nasty hands of the Hilton and their timeshare trap.

First, we headed to the Walmart in Kona to pick up fishing gear. We found telescopic poles (perfect for traveling), a net and other fishing supplies. Then we headed to Safeway for shrimp for bait. When we arrived at Holoholokai Beach Park, there were only 2 other cars parked in the parking lot. We walked to the left side (facing the ocean) of beach but found it a bit too rocky. There was a turtle stranded on the reef, about 20 feet from the water. We called DLNR, but they said that the turtle will be find and that they won't be sending anyone out to help it. I hope that the poor guy made it back to the water. We headed to the opposite side of the beach (right side) and found a couple areas which allowed us to walk out on the reef (at low tide) and fish in shallow pools or close to where the waves were breaking on the reef. My son caught a fish on his first cast. He caught another fish (mostly Kupipi), then another and another. We almost always smash the barb on our hooks with a plier so that it is easy to remove a release the fish, so not to cause much harm to the fish. My friend said that Kupipi is good eating, just throw it on a grill. But why eat an ugly reef fish when you can order pizza and pasta from the resort that you're staying at, right? Ha ha! Anyway, it was a beautiful day for fishing. We even came back a second day and the results were the same, we caught (and released) a lot of fish. We saw less than 10 other people there (all tourists), but no other fishermen. If you go, make sure to bring sunscreen, a hat and bottled water. It's quite hot and there aren't any trees to provide shade (at least not near the fishing area). We will look for other fishing spots the next time we visit Kona, but this is definitely a convenient fishing location while staying in the Waikoloa area. There is also a public restroom near the parking lot. Happy fishing! : )
