Definitely one of my favorite spots on this island. The fish ponds are fun to walk around and explore during a break from the beautiful snorkeling in the inlet or swimming and sand castle making. I like that this beach has a grass area above in the shade to be or on the sand or on chairs/cabanas. There is a seating option for everyone, but it can fill up quickly! Overall it's just such good vibes here and the staff is very helpful and friendly. read more

Beautiful area and amazing snorkeling. Private life guard and shallow water. Shore can get a little corally/ rocky so I might recommend swim shoes . Cabanas are available to mauna lani members so it is also a nice perk. The restaurant on the beach is also nice with open air seating and reasonable prices for the area. Love this beach. It was so beautiful and snorkeling was awesome. There is plenty of places to set up and even some canopies for those staying at the resort. Some of the lounger chairs were falling apart. There is also a nice shaded area in the grass. So many fish to see and sometimes even a turtle. Easy to walk around without shoes. Highly recommend coming here if you stay at the resort. read more

The absolute best beach/snorkling/hang out we have found in all of Hawaii. Its exclusive and you need a connection to get in - owner or guest on the Mauna Lani properties and a club member... But if you can get in, just plan on spending your vacation here. Snorkling is amazing - goes for hundreds of yards in all directions - every possible creature you might want to see - turtles, octopi, schools of fish and more - coral is rich and healthy. We typically went early - 7am and only locals were out swimming laps to a buoy. Waves were always gentle even when rough other places (def no surfing or such here its a relaxing place) - There was an attendant/lifeguard and they groom the beach every morning. Frankly, we kept trying other beaches to get variety and always ended up back here every day. There is a coastal path in both directions, fish ponds with eels, and even a high end restaurant with a bar right there. Could not possibly ask for more. Snorkling is amazing read more

It's about a 20 minute walk from the parking lot through lava fields and around beautiful fish ponds. I love this beach for easy snorkeling. You can walk in to the water right from the beach, and there is lot of coral and fish very close to the shore. It is a bay so there aren't any waves. There is also a restaurant, Napua, at the beach. Nice restrooms and food and drink close by. On the south side of the beach is a walk way along the ocean. We took an afternoon stroll there and saw upwards of 10 whales. Great place to while away an afternoon! read more

Absolutely love this beach club! Come early if you want one of the cabanas, otherwise you can snag a lounge chair but you might want an umbrella. Not a ton of shade, but some of the best snorkeling you'll find on the island. So many reefs in the cove! read more

What a standout spot. Gorgeous beach with a hidden feel. Lovely water, beautiful views and the snorkeling was easy and awesome. We saw eels two days in a row and enjoyed the variety of fish. Cabanas go early, so get there asap in the morning for a spot. Can't go wrong here. read more

This place is nice and not too crowded. Private for the most part but the locals can access the beach as well there is just separate parking areas. The snorkeling is unbelievable! The best we have had so far. Make sure you wear oxybenzone free sunscreen as it kills the coral!!! Sunbum is a good brand. Not sure why the complaints about the restaurant? Had a nice mahi sandwich one day and a delicious tuna sandwich the next, and green smoothie that was delicious! Service was attentive and quick. Great spot for families. read more

This is a great beach and it is normally not crowded. The Beach Club is private and for members and guests only. But, the beach itself is public. This is Hawaii and the beaches are for everyone. I understand this is one of the best snorkeling beaches on the Island. We have been here twice and the water is crystal clear. Also there is no surf in the cove. I guess the lava under the water kills it as the water is as smooth as glass. There is a small shop that sells beach stuff and rents things to have fun with. Snorkeling gear, surf boards, outrigger canoes, and stuff like that. There is also a highly rated restaurant. read more

Very convenient and well maintained beach if you are staying in Mauna Lani. The bay is protected and good for younger kids in the shallows while the outer and mid bay have some decent snorkeling. The staff was friendly and helpful! Restrooms were very clean. It beat fighting the crowds at the nearby hot spots and had its own vibe. Since we were staying at the resort we took advantage of this nice little beach! read more

Love this cute little beach. Located next to a golf course, it's not crowded since it is gate protected. We stayed in the condos nearby so had full access. The water is cooler than the norm due to the alcove it rests within but overall, it's a fun spot. We went two separate days and had no problem finding between 8 and 12 lounge chairs. Snorkeling isn't great compared to other Hawaiian islands, Caribbean & Mexico spots but I wasn't there to snorkel anyway. There is a cool looking lunch/dinner spot on the beach with great ambience but we didn't order while on the beach so can't say how the service was . . . but we were there for the beach & not the drinks/food. Side note: there is a trail from the condos we stayed in all the way to the beach and it was a cool trip by foot. read more

I live here and just want to clear up some conflicting information. The beach IS open to the public, just like most of the shoreline in the state. The nearby PARKING is not -- it's behind a gate that requires a key card to open. (If you're renting a condo within the resort you'll be given a key card to use during your stay.) The gates are opened in the late afternoon so the public can come to the restaurant for dinner. Like the parking, the cabanas and chaise lounges are provided for the use of owners and renters, so plan on bringing your own chairs or towels to relax on. If you want to visit the beach during the day you should make your way to the designated parking at the historic park (first left turn after passing the shops) on Pauoa Road. Follow the asphalt trail through the lava field to the fish ponds and then head left. It's about a 15 minute walk. read more

Excellent beach! You do need an access code to enter the parking lot. One of my favorites to visit here on the Big Island. Love the fact that they have chairs, a nice bathroom, showers, and a restaurant on site. There are rentals here as well if that is your thing. Tons of people enjoy the snorkeling here. Water seems to be calm here most days. Sand is soft but BEWARE of SHARP ROCKS that will kill your feet. I would recommend either water shoes or walk with a heightened sense of awareness. We'll be back over and over to this beach if we stay here again!!! read more

Great PRIVATE beach! This beach club is only available to owners, condo or home rental guests and hotel guests. It is not open to the general public. When you arrive by car, you must have a card to enter. While at the beach lifeguards make sure you are a guest or owner. Just wanted to clear that up because I have seen a few saying it's open to the public. As far as Napua restaurant, its great food and service, and we have been going there for 8 years. One of the best spots on The Big Island! Highly recommend it. read more
