I've been attending adult ballet classes here for 2 years. I love the teachers I've had - Annabelle and Crystal are so sweet and helpful. If you're scared of trying ballet for the first time as an adult, don't be. The teachers are super nice and supportive, you never get called out or put on the spot. You do get corrected but never in a way that is embarrassing. The beginner adult/teen class tends to lean more adults. Beginner 1 is so friendly, the teachers and peers. A judgment free dance class. We have found such a love for ballet with the AB community! My husband and I started taking Adult Beginner 1 classes with Crystal about a year ago as a fun way to get stronger/more flexible. I honestly can't even run a mile and I'm really not in particularly good shape, so we were a little nervous to try at first. You will NOT find a better beginner program elsewhere!! We came to AB with zero knowledge of ballet or any dance background at all, but we've slowly slowly improved in the last year and started taking Beginner 2 classes (yay!). The class dynamic is really welcoming and the students encourage each other. I've made many friends through their program! The instructors provide many helpful corrections and they're are all very kind (even when we're falling all over ourselves in class). I took an adult beginner 1 class with Anabelle Gunderson and had the most fun ever. Everyone was an adult. The class was shown and taught by an ex-dancer and the studio reminded me of Alonzo King. She's patient and very insightful. I like this teacher and will be returning for sure :) read more

My 3yo soon to be 4 daughter is attending this school, and today was her 4th class, on her 2nd class i was advised by her teacher Tatiana that she is too young to attend that school and that she doesn't understand why they accept 3yo kids since thats a very you age for ballet and today there was an incident at the class where my daughter and another girl bumped their heads and since my daughter wasn't crying she did not get the attention she needed as the other girl got ice pad etc and few minutes after my daughter got kicked out of the class and the teacher did not tell me the reason why, i told my daughter to enter again since she asked me for her sticker (teacher gives them stickers once they completed the class) and i told her she will get one once the class is over and she got inside the classroom again and for the 2nd time she got kicked out so i asked the teacher why and she responded really mad that my daughter was talking back and was distracting the whole class which was only 4 more kids. So i walked to the office with my kid and all she was saying is that she wants to go dance. I expressed this issue to Leticia Valli the secretary or front desk and she even saw my daughter red forehead (picture attached) and offered the ice pad since she saw is was red and on the picture is not as red as at that moment, i told her that the issue is not the ice pad is actually that my daughter was feeling left out and was not treated equally. This as a mom broke my heart, i was there to speak put for my kid but whats going to happen when we are not there in some other situations. I understand her teacher might be young and is hard for us as human to control our feelings but imagine for a 3yo. And this for sure wont stop me from bringing my daughter to the activity she likes but i also want to make sure all kids are treated the same and if the teacher cant handle 3yo maybe the rules or age range can be updated. read more

My daughter has been dancing at Anaheim Ballet for two years now and it has become her second home. We tried a few studios before settling in at Anaheim Ballet and I couldn't be happier with the level of technique and discipline that my daughter has experienced for such a young age. She's only six and has grown the stamina to do hour long barre classes several days a week, all thanks to her instructors. She started in pre ballet with Mrs. April and Ms. Tati and is now in ballet 1 with Ms. Katelynne and still with Ms. Tati. I'm so thankful for their skill and patience in instructing my daughter. Privates are also available which we have been taking with Ms. Tati for a year now. I'm so happy with decision to work with Ms. Tati. My daughter has grown so much in the past year. She does a great job at motivating my daughter to challenge herself in her discipline and always implements proper technique and form during the privates. My daughter was accepted to two different companies for a pre professional position so that tells you how good they are. they turn out professional dancers because they were professional dancers. I started coming here about two weeks ago to take their adult beginning 1 and adulting beginning 2 class! If you've never done ballet before it is fast pace. Adult beginning 1 doesn't really go through the basics (you should already know first position, second, etc) and adult beginning 2 just dives right in! As someone who did ballet as a kid, I was able to keep up even though I forgot a lot of the terminology. The instructors are so so so nice and cheerful and every class has been fun! read more

The reason of this feedback that, the receptionist lady, try her best to accommodate me and my needs. I really appreciate it. She offered me a different instructors in different classes. They have several instructors. I was not happy with, because they just come to work, they don't correct you they don't pay attention how you do correctly or not you may injure yourself , they don't look professional. After I had classes with Crystal, on Thursdays, for beginners, it's very difficult to find someone close like her. Crystal is so professional, she comes to you, she corrected you ,your posture, shows you exactly how you do in the professional ballet , even you're not professional dancer and never will be. She treated you as you soon will become a ballet dancer. She gives so much energy, knowledge, then you wanna become a professional dancer, even you are 60+! OMG, I do not know where to begin with this. I went to take the adult ballet 1 class, which is only offered once a week on a Saturday. The one I usually go to in Costa Mesa offers 7 ballet level 1 classes a week, so if you want to actually accomplish something and learn ballet you can go multiple times in a week. Unfortunately the teacher has this thing about not turning on the air conditioning in the summer and therefore I had to abstain for the previous few weeks due to the heat wave we were having. I called Anaheim and asked if the teacher there used the A/C, was told yes and decided to go. WHAT A WASTE OF MY SATURDAY AFTERNOON! First, the ballet bars are pieces of junk nailed (cheap closet poles) to the walls with no thought as to how they go together and how they are finished. They have two heights which are "high and higher" nothing for those of us who cannot do the splits in the air, which makes it almost impossible to stretch, go down and touch your toes and then come up into an arabesque without giving yourself a herniated disc. The teacher was the worst part. She spent more time listening to herself talk then us actually doing any work. She would spend time teaching something, barely giving you any of the french terminology that goes with it, and then would have us do about 20 seconds worth of work with it, switch to the other side and then move on to a new barre routine. She spent more time teaching than us working because of this. I kid you not, with a 75 minutes class we did maybe 35 minutes of actual movement. The rest of the time we were standing around, listening to her. I never even broke a sweat, or got my muscles in any way warmed up because we were lollygagging so much. You could see she was working out her routines on the fly which also was taking up time. Teachers should come to class prepared and actually let the students dance. In addition, it would be helpful if she actually called out the movements during the music. Are we really supposed to remember it after one showing with little further instruction? I felt sorry for another woman who was going to her first ballet class that day. The teacher gave out no info on posture, foot placement, balance, technique or anything else informative other than teaching the routine she worked out on the spot. People will get hurt if you do not actually teach them how to do it properly, even if it is just tidbits at a time. Very sad. A woman who I introduced myself to before class asked me afterwards how I liked it. I told her, "I feel like I need to go take an aerobics class now as I got nothing towards any kind of a workout or exercise." She jerked her head back and gave me this really weird look. Sorry, however it was true. I have only been taking ballet 4 months, where previously I was sedentary for over 5 years, so my conditioning still has a long way to go and even I felt as though I had accomplished absolutely nothing and needed to work out again. If you are serious about learning ballet, getting a workout and toning your body, the ballet level 1 teacher at Anaheim Ballet is a total waste of your time. Do not bother! There is another studio in Costa Mesa that is all adults and is much better at it. read more

One of the most affordable classes I've been able to find in the area ($15 per single class). Make sure to take advantage of Student/Disney Cast Member discounts ($12 per class)! I also enjoy that they offer intermediate and advanced adult classes, so I don't get stuck in a class of 13 year olds. I danced my whole life but have fallen off in the past few years, so it feels great to be starting up with ballet again. I have never been flexible and have horrible turnout, but I never feel self conscious or judged, and I'm able to modify barre stretches as necessary. It's totally frustrating that my mind knows how my body should be moving, but my body is just saying "WTF are you trying to DO to me woman?!" I suppose it will get better with time... it sucks to be old and rusty! If I had to give one criticism I would say that I wish corrections were more hands on, and demonstrations were more in depth- especially when it's clear no one in the class knows what's going on! I also tried the beginning ballet class with a friend a few years ago, and she was completely lost. I noticed some of the other girls who were regulars in the class also seemed confused about new steps that were not explained properly. Even after the combinations where it was clear they didn't know new steps, she never broke them down. I'm sure that was extremely frustrating, and if it was me I would have been awfully uncomfortable. Anyway, I love coming to class here every week and I believe I have finally find my dance home in the area! read more

After 5 years of training my daughter was a good dancer but had no passion for it. We tried Anahiem Ballet and she loved it. The summer intensive was the hardest thing she ever did but loved every minute. The top instructors are not just former world class dancers but caring, intuitive teachers. The biggest jaw dropper though is the other students! There seems to be no rivalry or jealousy. Even the older soloists are friendly and supportive of the other dancers. I have never seen a group of beautiful, talented young women behave like this, like a team, ever sisters. I have spoken to the male dancers as well and they agree, it's a supportive environment with excellent instruction. My daughter is improving steadily and can't wait for her next class. read more

I have not witnessed any ballet classes in action, but Diane and I just saw the Anaheim Ballet perform the full-length production of The Nutcracker at Don's Celebrity Theatre inside Don Laughlin's Riverside Resort Hotel & Casino in Laughlin, Nevada, and we both agreed it was the best and most inventive rendition we have yet seen of many Nutcracker ballet viewings. So, judging by the on stage performances of both the principal and apprentice dancers, the level of instruction must be very good indeed! This is a first-rate ballet company, and we now plan to see more of their productions. read more

Having performed professionally, I was surprised when I was asked to take several other classes in addition to a pointe class to maintain training. Clearly these teachers either do not know what they are teaching or just want you to pay more tuition. It was my first and last class I took there. That's not to say there are some very energetic competition dancers there, the technique and emphasis is far too much on athleticism than proper technique. read more

Our teenage daughter has trained at Anaheim Ballet for two years, and our 5-year-old niece has been there about six months. Both enjoy their lessons and have learned a lot in a relatively short time. We are very happy with the instruction, class scheduling, competitive pricing, and recitals. The instructors are very knowlegdeable and handle the full spectrum of students, from absolute beginners to professional performers. Kids classes vary a lot in size, some quite large at around 20, but all of the kids get attention during class. Private lessons are encouraged for beginners to quickly learn the basics, and prices for private lessons were very reasonable. The facility has a large number of studio rooms that allow for very flexible scheduling, including evenings and weekends, which is obviously important for school-age kids. We are able to bring our daughter in Ballet III and niece in Pre-Ballet II at the same time. If you've got several kids in ballet, this type of flexibility is an absolute must. Pricing is about $14 per one-hour class, with a small discount for buying a full month at a time. I believe private lessons were about $35. There is an annual recital which is very well-organized and attended, giving the dancers a big thrill for performing live on a stage before a crowd. Choreography is appropriate for ability. The school is also heavily invested in community service, offering free instruction in ballet through its STEP-UP program for local kids. Highly recommended. read more

My 3 year old is a student here, she is taking Pre-Ballet II and she is always looking forward to dance class. I love the fact that her instructor is very patient with all the little girls in her class, she is strict but she knows how to be strict without going over board (If you know what I mean). The prices are pretty reasonable and they allow you to have the first class free of charge, like a free trial to see if your child will like Ballet. The best studio I have ever been to. I've been quite a few dance studios but Anaheim was the last studio I would attend because I would never leave this studio for any other. This studio became a second home and is the main reason for why I love dancing so much. I started out with Saturday morning adult ballet at the age of 13 and had close to no technique because the studios and experiences I had prior to this were all bad. The teacher was so kind and caring. After getting a good grip on adult beginning ballet I moved into ballet 2 (which I believe is now ballet 3 after they moved the numbers up) with Ms. Sarma. She was very assertive and knows how to make a dancer dance to the best of their ability. Whenever Sarma walked by you knew to turn out and point toes and keep core in and everything else that you had learned. I was then moved up to ballet 3 with Mr. Larry and he is wonderful. I believe Mr. Larry teaches ballet at chapman, in which I had a friend who became a very strong dancer through him. Lastly I was permitted to get my first pair of pointe shoes which was a huge accomplishment for me. Pointe classes are also taught with care and expertise. Amidst of all this I was taking jazz with Mr. John Ajayi. This class tests your muscles and definitely pushes you physically and mentally. I think this was my favorite class. His insight and passion for dance allows you to take so much from his class. Anaheim Ballet is the best dance studio around, you would make no mistakes in attending this great establishment. My whole family takes ballet classes - my wife, me, and my two kids. We've been going to Anaheim Ballet for more than 15 years. This is a fantastic place to learn the basics (I'm in Adult Ballet 1). It's also a great place for advanced dancers. Everyone is treated to excellent instruction. Some of the facilities are a bit run down (Anaheim Ballet IS a non-profit service of the City of Anaheim) - but they do the best they can with what they have. I just recently learned about Anaheim ballet so I checked it out. The instructors are excellent. Aside from ballet, they also offer jazz and tap. There are classes for all levels and ages. I recently enrolled my daughters after trying out a couple of their classes. I am so thankful for learning about this school because my children will grow so much more here. I've been studying at Anaheim Ballet off and on for many years. AB is amazing when it comes to building and improving technique, strength, stamina and focus. No, the classes here, including the beginning classes, are not easy. NEWFLASH: Ballet is not easy. Here there are no pretenses. At AB you are expected to work. The "barre is set high" (pun intended) and they have the philosophy that students of any age or experience can, and eventually will, "rise to the task". Nothing is modified or dumbed down. No one will hold your hand. It's sink or swim, and you'll be amazed in a short while that you're swimming. The adult beginning classes, of which there are THREE a week, are not to teach you ABOUT ballet, they are to get you to DO ballet; because for late starters, why would you want to waste any time? There is no need for more adult beginning classes because most of the beginning adults find that they progress pretty quickly to where they are comfortable taking an adult intermediate class. There is an adult class every day of the week. Also, as a beginning adult, you will get the same training and treatment as do the young "whippersnappers" in Ballet V of the professional program; but on the flip side, that means more is expected from you. Oh - and be prepared to SWEAT! Use of the A/C is often discouraged because it is bad for muscles. As for the professional program: The teaching styles of Larry and Sarma compliment eachother in a great way and create well rounded dancers. Larry is fantastic at verbalizing technique so that you can really visualize the physicality of what you need to do. This is rare and something all experienced dancers would agree is hard to do. Sarma is great at drilling in the technical nitty gritty. Basically, Sarma draws the picture; Larry paints it. And yes, they do place a huge amount of emphasis on athleticism. Maintaining proper techinique requires a GREAT DEAL of athleticism. And lastly, of course you are expected to take several other classes in addition to a pointe class in order to maintain training - DUH! read more

My 4 year old has been taking classes here. Some teachers are very good at teaching and managing kids and their time with them. Others just ignore when kids get distracted and don't give as direct or understandable instruction for the age group. This October the prices are raising per class as well. I have mixed feelings about my experiences here but will likely be looking elsewhere for instruction for my child. read more
