I spent a couple of days at the start of this week learning to drive a boat on Hayling Island and found this place while out looking for breakfast on the morning of the second day. The service here is best described as friendly bordering on obsequious. I came to them bleary eyed, partially hung over and most terrifying of all, pre coffee. I had the pleasure of dealing with a stocky chap called John who sorted me out with a full English breakfast and a big cup of coffee. The diner itself is like an upmarket greasy spoon with black walls bearing monochrome framed photos of the area in the 1950s and an odd sponged on pattern in white paint. It has the usual canteen style set up at the counter where the customer can select their cutlery from a segregated plastic tray, pick up the daily paper and head over to their chosen bolted seat. I had only spent a short time marvelling through hazy eyes at the museum of catering past when my food and coffee arrived conveyed unto me by a man so friendly that he thanked me while he handed me breakfast. The bread, she was white, the coffee, she was milky and lo the beans, so very hot. It was then with my first scalding mouthful that I knew that were I ever to return to this island, my breakfast, she was to be found here.

We had 2 waitresses one of which was training. They were both polite and friendly. For the price the roast dinner was spot on. The meats were cooked beautifully and the vegetables had great variety. Although not pictured the sticky toffee pudding was amazing. It was too good to stop for a photograph. We would highly recommend this pub to friends and family.

It has a very family-friendly warm feel to it, with open log fires, a heated beer garden, and lots of comfortable seating. I loved the large, old picture frames décor with empty bottles of pricy champagne and whisky filling the window sills. This is definitely the kind of pub I could spend a whole Sunday afternoon in, sampling the merchandise... They do food up until 9pm, and certain things are *extremely* reasonably priced. f you get a basket meal, you get a choice of Scampi, Southern Friend Chicken Strips, Cheeseburger, Sausages, or Tempura Battered Vegetables (all served with chips) for £4.95! And on every day of the week you can get a specific dish for a fiver as well, ranging from Fish and Chips to Lasagna and Risotto. The cheeseburger tasted a bit microwaved, unfortunately but the chips were solid and service was quick. Clientele ranges from those these for a couple pints and the footie to groups of 20 year olds taking advantage of the cheap food and drinks. Will definitely be back, but won't be getting that cheeseburger.

On coming out and unsucessfully struggling to try to get into the other loo, a middle aged waiter saw me struggle but didnt help. I asked /stated the disabled loo door was broken and he stomped in there to prove if what I was saying was correct and then immediately came out merely saying "yes it is" but offering no apology or help, he was just extremely rude. I was made to feel embarrassed at having to use a disabled loo and as such unwelcome. On returning to my table our drinks had arrived but I told my husband I did not want to stay and eat and asked if we could leave. On seeing me a little upset both my husband and the 4 other diners next to us all stated their disgust as well. On leaving my husband went to pay for the one glass of coke I had sipped a little off and the waiter even tried to charge him for an unopened bottle of still water he had only just put down, which we didnt even have glasses for ! He didn't even speak politely then, nor seemed surprised we were leaving (which seems a bit of a trend from other reviews) There was most definitely no offer of apology, in fact he was just out and out rude. What a nasty horrible, little man who obviously thinks it's completely acceptable to behave like this towards customers. I really don't understand how this place can justify prices more expensive than the Ivy in Winchester when it is at best tired ,dirty with extensively ripped and marked seats etc with waiters dressed in old Jean's. There was also no obvious covid cleaning regime, (which the loo would back up) nor any use of the track and trace system. We went to another lovely place around corner and on chatting to the manager there and then again in a shop it was confirmed my all that this individual is known for it and they ' have people moaning all the time about him, even the solent management want rid of him' Be warned and avoid like COVID
