On my most recent trip, I stayed in one of their bare-bone offerings: an upstairs non-seafront single room. It may have had a spectacular view of the rooftop, but it was what was in the room that matters and made it such good value - $65 was a steal. The room was very clean, nicely presented and appointed, and had an ensuite. The water pressure to the shower was fantastic. The bed was a little on the hard side but you get that. Staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant at the back - at which I have eaten many times before - is worth visiting for breakfast, lunch AND dinner. The seating out the front is a great place to sip a glass of wine and admire the views of the bay. Anchorage is the best accommodation in Victor Harbor, in my book. And arguably the best dining too.

As for cleanliness and tidiness the room was excellent. We had a balcony/seafront room and got to see the sun come up in the morning FABULOUS! I expected more vegetables with the turkey special but for $12, it was very nice with succulent potatoes. One other little gripe was with the gravy as they used a beef gravy that was quite rich with the turkey but this wasn't too bad. The burgers looked nice and the salad bar had a decent potato salad on offer. A nice spot of lunch. Overall, pretty good for a quick spot of lunch and I would return just for the great service and varied menu.

Once you've walked through their many rooms, packed with people and food, you have to take a deep breath because it smells awful inside. Like something is rotten. Maybe it was just some people that were in there that day, I don't know. The beer garden is the only positive thing about this place and it was quite nice. Not nice enough, however, to balance out the quality of the food. Fair enough, pub food is often very ordinary but this was way below average. I had fish that tasted of absolutely nothing. I then went back inside and asked for some tartar sauce that looked even worse than it tasted. The chips were fine but it's not much of an accomplishment to make alright chips. My friend had the roast of the day, beef, of which she maybe had one or two bites because it was as chewy as gum. I won't be back.

However it is a nice quiet setting and would be fun for groups of people but only in the summer. Beach huts - well sounds like they are on the beach, no it was a 5 minute walk along roads. Then when we get to the beach the sign "dangerous currents and beware of the snakes!" The beach huts themselves are quirky and fun but cold and there is no heating in the bathroom which was freezing! There is only a microwave in the room and a BBQ outside in the small garden area. However there is the village hall which has cooking facilities. The Restaurant was closed on the nights we were there, again disappointing as there is no where within walking distance to eat out!

We were really just looking for somewhere to stay that was clean and close to the pubs where we'd be spending the evening, and the Inn was exactly that. The manger, Trevor, was very friendly and helpful and didn't seem to mind that we were a bit noisy and rambunctious when we were playing some bachelorette games. The rooms were tidy and clean, the bathroom well-stocked and comfortable, and one of the rooms had a small kitchen and full-sized fridge, which was really handy for us (cocktail making and such). Although unlike many on prominent street corners around the state, it doesn't have a corner entrance door, but rather a main door on the lake side main street. The bar is J shaped which always makes for good atmosphere and makes the most of the natural light. This is one thing many SA pubs struggle with, as it relies on natural features in a state known for how largely flat and featureless it is. The early planners of Milang got this one right. Sites can be hard to get if you haven't booked well ahead for Christmas, Easter, and the big long weekends, but if they can fit you in, they will. Victor Harbor itself is a lovely little town, with great food options, penguins and a scenic 'granite' island, lots of lovely nature walks, and whale watching nearby in the season. There's a posted rate on a board out the front for the cabins, subject to availability, if you happen to be at Victor looking for accomodation, it's well worth checking to see if you can save a few bucks.
