Ordered lamb shank and chicken burger. Both meals cold, absolutely disgusting. Never again.!

There was not many lunch choices in Victor Harbor. We picked this because it was on the esplanade, and we might be able to see the beach if we really stretched our necks. They had the normal pub meals as well as the carvery. We ordered the seafood platter and the roast pork. The seafood platter came with chips and salad and was good. The roast pork came with a large selection of fresh salad and vegetables at the salad bar. The food here is ok, although a little expensive for what amounts to a good pub bistro - I can understand that though, they need to make most of their money on weekends and holidays, when the crowds throng to Victor. What saddens me is the service - actually, it's not the service, they don't do such a bad job of getting people seated and served, although a smile would be golden and get them past the 'just doing my job' feel you get - it's the attitude. We went because we had a voucher from the Entertainment guide, but we were told that couldn't be applied to the buffet/carvery. Our kids meals came with drinks, and my wife queued for an age at the bar only to be told she needed a ticket for the kids drinks, which they should have given us at the front desk. She queued again at the front desk, and was then told by the lone bar attendant she had to queue yet again to be served. We complained, and were told 'that's just the way he is'. Not a good start. The carvery operates on a ticket, too. Guess what ELSE they didn't give us at the desk? All good, my daughter and I got our tickets, got our meat, added veggies and went back to eat. The roast was good - lets face it, it's hard to do a bad roast when you're doing them every day, right? - and my daughter loved it enough she wanted a couple more slices of lamb - we went back, to find one ticket, one plate. No meat for you, cried the carvery nazi. Sad, at $30 a head. We could go back to the buffet, but it isn't really a buffet - it's a salad & vegetable bar. I consoled the 11 year old with dessert, and fumed quietly to myself. My wife spoke again to the girl at the front desk, about our general dissatisfaction - she got listened to, which was good, I was getting ready to take the staff into the kitchen and impersonate Dexter, and she was told to save our discount voucher for summer, when we could get a discounted seafood platter, including lobster tail and prawns, etc. We went back at the start of summer, they didn't have the platter on the menu yet. We went back a month ago, we were told they're not sure if they'll do the platter this year. Friends of ours tried to go there a couple of weeks ago and they were told the carvery was off because the chef had walked out and there was no one to carve meat. All in all, I think this is one to avoid - there are SO many better places to eat in Victor. read more

This is one of the two major hotels on the Victor Harbor foreshore, though interestingly despite the fact that I have been down to Victor Harbor multiple times I don't think I have visited the pubs all that much. There was a time a while back when I did come here to watch a game of football, namely because where we were staying didn't have a television, but that was about it. As such I decided to check it out again, and it isn't bad. Unlike a lot of pubs I have visited that offer accomodation this one has a much more formal setup, as well as a much more formal dining room. However the bar that faces the main square is basically where it all happens. Another interesting thing I also noticed was that they also have a formal cafe set up. As for beers on tap, well they have a pretty decent selection including some good craft beers. Personally I can't say which of the pubs in Victor is my favourite, but this is certainly a decent one. read more

Nice relaxed afternoon. We had lunch in the bistro at the back. Menu was great and extensive, only problem was choosing what to have. Lots of daily specials and lunch/dinner specials Mon- Fri. Everyone seemed to go the calvery option which has a great deal too. Will go that option next time. Staff were friendly and polite. Didn't feel rushed.... oh and the salad and vegie bar was a great addition too. read more

This place is a great relaxed venue for a nice lunch or dinner. We caught up recently for a family birthday lunch and had a very pleasing experience. Great that they have a salad and dessert bar for those ordering the roast deal. Bargain! I was not disappointed with my healthy option of Mediterranean vegetables, what a delight to my senses that was. The only negative thing to say is the prices are quite a bit higher than I was expecting and the cake keeping fee was excessive. Regardless of these points, I will be back :-) read more

My partner and I go to the hotel victor on a semi regular basis because (In his opinion) they do the best beef parmy he's ever had. I've always been thoroughly pleased with my service and the pricing is reasonable. I really enjoy coming down for a meal and some live music. 4 stars read more

Recent visit, had to wait an excessive amount of time for meals (restaurant was not full), waitress was rude, Manager Alexandra was just as rude, meal was not worth the wait, restaurant has fallen in quality compared to years ago, if you dont want a restaurant that has rude staff and average meals then consider giving this place a big miss. read more
