My primary care physician recommended Dr. Albert and I could not be more satisfied with the level of care and service that I experienced at his office. Anne at the front desk was friendly, helpful and extremely competent. Dr. Albert took the time to answer all of my questions and put me at ease before, during and after my procedure. He is extremely friendly, patient, approachable and knowledgeable. He was also great in terms of responding quickly to several emails that i sent to him outside of office hours when i had some additional questions. They both helped me to navigate through the insurance billing aspect, which made everything go smoothly and with no unexpected surprises. This office should be embarrassed. As a potential new patient, I sent an email with a few general scheduling questions. I have an infant at home, so obviously I had some timing concerns. I sent the message at the beginning of June, 6 days go by, no response. I reached out again, to give them the benefit of the doubt, & now it's June 22nd with zero effort to get into contact with me. They definitely lost my potential business. I couldn't imagine the neglect if I were to follow-up for test results... terrible service. read more

Dr. Albert diagnosed me immediately with Celiac Disease after being sick for over a year and a half. I have now been his patient for TEN years and would trust no other gastroenterologist to scope me. (I drive into the city to see him now that I live in the suburbs.) I have had multiple scopes to date by Dr. Albert with absolutely no issues. He is the most down to earth doctor you will find who won't bullshit you just to make money like many do in this day and age. He is genuinely concerned for your well being and his office has been extremely accommodating, from getting appointments scheduled quickly to responding to emails, which they are on top of. In fact, when dealing with a recent condition, his office was more concerned for my well being than the doctors I was seeing to treat the issue at hand! I have no idea where these negative reviews are coming from but I can tell you this - he's a PHENOMENAL doctor and I am so thankful to have found him/glad that he has his own successful practice now. I'm a recent transplant to Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood and was pleased to find a gastroenterologist within a stones throw of my house. I have a significant history that requires attention to detail and the proper due diligence, so choosing a gastro is a big deal. After my first call to their office, I was shocked to get an appointment relatively quickly. Upon arrival and after the initial paperwork, I met Dr. Albert. He's a very nice doctor that seemed willing to listen to my history and overall concerns, and made thoughtful points about my case. Along with his PA, I felt I was in the right hands. That was, until after I left the office. Dr. Albert had me go through a couple of tests after the appointment. The problem began here. It was IMPOSSIBLE to get a hold of a human being and to get past their unprofessional answering service (as if you are leaving a voicemail on someone's personal phone). Nobody called me back and instead I had office staff call me a week later and ask to do yet another test. Wait, can't I talk to the doctor about the results of my first two tests!? Of course not. I left yet another voicemail asking to speak to the doctor about the initial results before scheduling another invasive test. I finally got fed up and took my business to a professional team of doctors at Northwestern. Funny thing was, my new gastroenterologist at Northwestern said they get a lot of transfers from that office. When choosing a doctor, you want to make sure they are accessible and take your case seriously should you have concerns. I finally have that at Northwestern. read more

When trying to resolve the issue, the doctors office would not call me back. I ended up just giving up and paying off the collections company. Bad experience. Waited 2 hours for an initial consult where I saw Dr. Alpert for about 2 minutes and then an administrator set me up for a colonoscopy. About a month later I got a call that Dr. Alpert could no longer do the surgery and that I needed to find another doctor. For the pleasure of a 2 hour wait to set up a service that they did not provide, I got a $350 bill. The billing department was incredibly rude and informed me that if I did not pay that day (I actually got the bill the day the new doctor performed the colonoscopy!) that they were reporting me to every credit agency. read more

While I see that a couple other posters on the site had a bad experience, I personally consider Dr. Albert to be the best doctor that I have ever met! When I checked into the hospital a few years ago with stomach pains, I had no personal doctor and no understanding of how health care worked. A guy in his 20s had no need for that. But, my Crohns diagnosis changed that and I was very scared about how I would manage my life while dealing with this disease. Thankfully, Dr. Albert was there to help me. His way of communicating with patients is extraordinary, and he went out of his way to help me during this rough time. I had no personal doctor, so he personally called a friend of his to take me on (despite his already full list of patients). I had no understanding of HMOs until Dr. Albert spent at least 20 minutes going through the details of my policy with me. I had no idea of what was wrong with me and how I would deal with it, but he thoroughly explained the issues of my condition, the medication levels to treat it, and the ways in which I could change my behavior to help my quality of life. Dr. Albert has always been there for me, and I couldn't ask for a better doctor! I was so thankful for everything he did for me that I actually bought him a Christmas present! Dr Albert has been my dr for many years now since 2006 I believe. I have always felt extremely comfortable and very welcomed in his office. I've seen his practice grow through out the years and I'm still treated with the utmost respect and professionalism he delivers. He makes you feel as you are a guest in his home. He has performed two procedures on me throughout the years. I was in great hands and really wouldn't want another dr. He strives to find an outcome that will work and get you back to normal as quickly as possible. His recommendations for treatment are spot on in my opinion. My schedule is hectic as I travel for work. I've never had an issue with scheduling an appointment. Judy is on top of it and extremely nice! I am a student at the University of Chicago and during the spring of my first year my Ulcerative Colitis got a serious flare up. With my gastro doctor not in Chicago we had to quickly locate one in hyde park that could oversee my health. I feel very lucky to have found Dr. Albert. While I have yet to have any medical procedures with him, I have come to his hyde park office to meet with often enough to conclude he is truly a fantastic doctor. He responds quickly by email, is available over the phone and takes time to fully explain the medical issues and the different options for treatment. He has always been very attentive in our conversations and often draws pictures to help explain what is happening in the digestive track. I get the feeling that he really cares about my health and spends enough time with me every appointment to back that up. Whenever I ask about the different medications and their pros and cons, he is always very knowledgeable about their side-affects. My only wish is that he was in his hyde park office more than just once a week (thursdays). But thats quite a minor gripe for a good doctor. read more

Dr. Albert has been treating me for the past six years. I had my third colonoscopy three weeks ago. I have never had any adverse side effects from these procedures. Dr. Albert is an exceptional Doctor. He has consistently taken personal time (weekends and nights) to help me. One might complain of longer waiting room times than "normal" but he is only running behind because he spends so much time getting to know his patients. He genuinely cares. Some new symptoms caused me to return to Doctor Albert. After a thorough discussion, he recommended over-the-counter medications for starters. Perfect. Solved the problem. One of my friends who is a medical professional (with far more serious issues) regards Dr. Albert as a "genius" for the way he researches problems, weighs alternatives, and incorporates patient thinking into his recommendations. DR. Albert was helping out in the office. He asked for a credit card. I don't have one. He said I could use a debit card. He told me it would be secure in his office. I walked out, called my primary doctor and told him the story. The primary doctor's office staff was surprised that DR Albert would not serve me unless I let him keep my debit card (checking account) photocopy. Now I am reading the reviews on DR Albert which urged me to write against him. The purpose for collecting your credit card or Debit card is to take money from you if there is a dispute with you or your insurance company before the issues are settled between you and/or your insurance company. He wants your money no matter what happens. You haven't got a chance with this guy. One of these reviews written here even claims that the office didn't have his copies of IDs. What do you think happened to them? He wants us to trust him with our personal information but he doesn't want to accept our ability and our insurance ability to pay. He wants a guarantee against all his patients because he doesn't trust the patients. Strange, DR Albert told me keeping my personal payment information on file is an office policy. I have been a patient of Dr Albert's for over 10 years now. He is a phenomenal doc who is both kind and knowledgeable. My favorite thing about him is that he listens to me and has always steered me down the right path with my treatment. He really helped me out over the last year and worked with me to get on the right treatment plan and now I feel great. I will admit that sometimes the office is very busy and you might have to wait. It is easy to get frustrated at this, however, I always remember that this happens because Dr. Albert and Dr. Pollack listen to their patients and don't rush them out the door. Horrible service. They referred me to get a scan at the hospital a couple months ago. Since then I've called and left many voicemails but no one will return my call. I'm getting billed for the scans be interpreted but I've never heard back on the results. It doesn't matter how many emails or voicemails are sent they just won't return calls. read more

I went to Dr. Albert for colonoscopy. On that first meeting, I also mentioned my main concern, which was persistent, significant constipation. He politely smiled while he typed, but showed no interest whatsoever in the topic. Perhaps it wasn't an interesting enough topic. I had warned him that this colon prep would not clean me out completely because I had severe problems. On procedure day, in the recovery room, he literally sneered and sighed, and said, "You didn't drink all of the prep, did you?" I told him that I drank all but about 1 tbsp. I did not appreciate being accused of something I did not do. He said there still was some stool remaining in my colon. Surprise, surprise. He asked how much water I was drinking. At the time, it was relatively little. He sneered again, and said to drink more water; the magic solution recommended by many doctors. I asked for a prescription for a medication to make me "go." AGAIN, he looked disgusted, and said drugs will cause dependence. But after telling him, on our initial meeting, that neither Miralax, mag citrate, probiotics, nor Metamucil work any longer, I would think he'd be more willing to prescribe something. I said I was afraid of getting a bowel obstruction. And by the way, I now drink an enormous amount of water each day, and it makes no difference. Fiber seems to make it worse. I wish he had paid attention and taken an interest. Now I am researching new GI docs, as my problem has reached a critical point. read more

He came highly regarded from my primary and I would definitely recommend him to my friends.When the dr. prescribed me a medication, he and Anne mentioned it could be expensive and to check back with them if that was the case. It was extremely expensive and Anne called me to offer an alternative option. I work far from the office, so getting there during the day was difficult. She was able to accommodate my schedule and come in early to meet me. The dr's office is small and you feel like its his house. He told me he treats his patients like family, and tries not to do unnecessary procedures, if possible. read more

This is not a review of Dr. Albert, but unfortunately for him the unprofessionalism of his staff has cost his office a review. You are the company you keep. Horrible. I had an appointment with the office and they messed up my days and called me to confirm my appointment for the wrong date. When I called back I got an automated system that said it would return my call within 24 hours. Not helpful, because the appointment they called to confirm was the next day. I showed up for my "appointment" and it turns out my real appointment was not until the next week - when I originally thought it was. The girl behind the desk was completely inconsiderate to the fact that I had to take off of work last minute due to their phone call to confirm the wrong appointment and refused to fit me in. In fact, she tried to blame the entire miscommunication on my GP's office even though it was HER office who called me with the wrong date. Then tried to blame it on the fact that they have an answering service that is remote from their office. Whatever the glitch in the system was - it was their fault that I could not directly contact Dr. Albert's office, and more than anything they are accountable for their lack of accountability. I understand that doctors have busy schedules but the fact that there is no way to reach their office directly to confirm THEIR mistake is unacceptable. Needless to say I will not be returning for my correctly scheduled appointment due to Dr. Albert's staff, which seems to be a shame considering the good reviews he has gotten thus far. read more

I went to this office back in May as a new patient. The doctor did not seem to be in the office at all, and I was not given the opportunity to meet him. Two months later, I received the statement for my copay. I immediately paid on their website, though I was already planning to find another doctor because the place seemed weirdly sketchy. An hour later, the assistant called! She said she'd just been discussing my case with the doctor, and he'd like to meet me and do some blood tests... two months later. So the options are (a) they really do think the blood tests are necessary and dropped the ball for two months or (b) they saw I'll pay my bills and decided to get me in to pay for more. A representative from advocate healthcare has also tried to contact his office three times on my behalf, and he's not even responding to them. I was having intense esophagus and stomach pains, as well as acid reflux. Dr. Albert kept putting me on higher and higher dosage medications, and I saw my problems get worse. He did a endoscopy, and said he didn't find anything. Then he wanted me to do some tests at a university that we're in the research stage - basically be a guinea pig. He never once asked about my diet or lifestyle. I left to seek alternative treatment and found an eastern medicine practitioner who has me completely off drugs. I stopped eating dairy and half my problems went away. I never really felt like Dr. Albert understood my problems, had time to listen, or wanted to help. read more

Dr Albert is one of the best gastros (if not the best) I've ever seen. I was diagnosed with UC at 18 years old and in my 17 years living with it have seen my share in FL, GA and now IL. He really cares about your treatment and well being. I got very sick in 2008 and he would call me at all times of day to check in and see how my treatments were going at St Joes. He even gave me his personal cell phone number to call him. I highly recommend going to Dr Albert, esp UC and Chrons patients like myself. read more

Horrible service, am switching GI. Experience: 1) I have yet to actually have a consult with the doctor. I've been having my appointments with the PA, who is a nice person, however, it really doesn't make you feel like you are getting service if you have yet to see the doctor after 2 visits. 2) the PA advised me to schedule an endoscopic ultrasound at Masonic Medical. I called to schedule and the scheduler asked me which doctor was referred to perform the procedure. I was never given this info by Dr. Albert's office. I called Dr. Albert's office, and I was told that I should state to the schedule that I was getting the Utrasound, which I questioned, because I had already had the ultrasound procedure performed. The lady at the office said that the hospital would know that it was the endoscopy but I had to say the procedure exactly the way she had written it. So I called again, and repeated verbatim the script. I was starting to be set up for the appointment and I asked the schedule just to make sure that it was endoscopy, and the scheduler said no, this was just an ultrasound. I said no, I specifically had a script for endoscopy and the scheduler said that I'd need to schedule via the GI lab department, and transferred me over. When I spoke with someone at the GI Lap dept, I was informed that my doctor would need to call in the order and schedule for me, and tell me a time and date. I told her that my doctor's office via email and also a call, told me to call directly and make the appointment. The lady at Masonic Medical was nice enough to say that she'd call Dr. Albert's office and get clarification. So after she called the dr. office, she called me back and told me that Dr. Albert's office told her that I needed an ultrasound, and that an appointment would be done through radiology. So after all this time, I was still pointed in the wrong direction. I called Dr. Albert's office back and spoke with Kris (again, she'd been my liaison the whole time). I told her again that my script, which she had JUST sent me this morning, was for endoscopic u/s, not for the imaging u/s, she said that there had been a change in the script. I told her that I need Libby, the PA that I had JUST met with the day prior, to tell me that there had been a change in script because how can it change without my knowledge? My mom was in the appointment with me too so I'm pretty sure Libby had ordered the endoscopic u/s, as I've already done u/s imaging. Kris said that she'd take care of it, and I asked to speak with Libby, and she said that Libby was in with another patient, and that Kris would take care of it. It's been 3 rounds of phone calls, emails, calls with the hospital, and I'm no closer to scheduling this procedure. Why is it so difficult to schedule the correct procedure? Also, at this point, I think that the PA or the Dr should step in and give the definitive prescribed procedure since I don't think that Kris should be the authority in the prescription. I just need to know, who I need to call, and how to get the endoscopic u/s scheduled - is that too much to ask? read more

Easy going doctor which is usually a nice thing. However, I felt rushed & not taken seriously at all!

Doctor Albert is a nice enough guy but I learned after I called yesterday to confirm my appointment and inform him that my symptoms were getting worse since I saw him last and made the changes he recommended that he is out for a few weeks having surgery. They then switched my appointment to today with his assistant. When I informed my primary care physician of this they told me to see a different Gastroenterologist they work with because seeing his assistant is not going to get any of the tests that I need done until the Doctor returns. When I called them back this morning less than 2 hours after they opened they informed me I will have to pay a same day cancellation fee which I think is BS because they didn't tell me the doctor would be of no use to me for a few weeks until after they changed my appointment and they were open less than 5 minutes after they changed my appointment last night. After all of this trouble they have agreed to refund my cancellation fee. If they had told me going in that he would be out for an extended period during my decision making time I would give them much higher rating as he is a nice guy and appears to be competent. read more

Dr. Albert is my miracle doctor!! I started going to him in 2007 for digestive issues. I was in weekly stomach pain and scared to eat several things due to how my stomach would react. After several trials of medications and procedures including an endoscopy and colonoscopy, Dr. Albert recommended I get an ultrasound of my gallbladder and liver. It turned out my gallbladder was only functioning at a 3% rate instead of the "normal" 35%. In the spring of 2008, I got my gallbladder removed and am happy to say, I have NOT had any digestive issues since. I can even eat anything I want! My life has changed completely thanks to Dr. Albert! I have recommended him to everyone that I have come across who has mentioned having GI issues. My husband now sees him and my mom will be seeing him soon too. I got the pleasure of reuniting with Dr. Albert ta week ago when my husband saw him for a procedure. Even after not seeing him since early 2008, he remembered me and all my symptoms right away. If anyone has any type of GI issues, you should definitely go see him! He is the best! If it wasn't for Dr. Albert, I don't know where I would be today. read more

I was very ill for two weeks. I visited two doctors and none of them helped. I went to go see Dr. Albert and he told me the medication the previous doctor gave me was a wrong prescription. After I left his office, I went to get the medication he prescribed. After I took them, I immediately felt a change. After two days of taking the medicine, my pain was gone.
