    Driving across the bridge
    Tiffany Y.

The Andy Warhol Bridge is a suspension bridge that was built in the 1920s. It is, of course, named after the artist Andy Warhol, who was born and raised in Pittsburgh. This bridge used to be called the 7th Street Bridge. It spans the Allegheny River to connect the North Shore neighborhood and the Downtown. The Andy Warhol Bridge is located in between two other bridges--the Roberto Clemente Bridge and the Rachel Carson Bridge. Collectively, these three parallel bridges are called The Three Sisters, and I think that they are the most famous bridges in the entire city. They are painted yellow and look gorgeous. Several years ago, this bridge underwent a $26 million rehabilitation. Furthermore, for a few months in the year 2023, the Andy Warhol Bridge will be closed for traffic during most nights so workers can install new lighting. One sidewalk is supposed to remain open so pedestrians can continue to walk across.

While Pittsburgh is the land of a million bridges, this one was one of the few that we walked over. The main reason being to get to the Andy Warhol museum (hence, the name), but there are many other things nearby like the Pirates museum, a performing arts center and many restaurants. I was impressed with how clean this bridge was, and it's a very easy walk from point A to B. You'll also notice a lot of locks on the fences, kinda made me wish we brought one to add to the collection! The best part? That stunning view of downtown Pittsburgh. It's pretty dang awesome.

Short walk across. End of bridge is just a block from the museum. A must do in addition to your museum visit.

I think it's one of the nicest bridges in Pittsburgh there's a lot to see when you cross it on both sides. Plus it's named after one of the worlds best artists. I guess that's why the bridge is so scenic.

It's a bridge. It's in better shape than the bridge that is closed to pedestrians for repairs.

There are many bridges that get a lot of attention in America. There is the Golden Gate, Brooklyn, Bay, I-90 Innerbelt to name a few of the best. The Andy Warhol Bridge is my favorite of all.

    Andy, where did everybody go?

This is a fine bridge. It's Alamon yellow, as most good bridges are. It is nearly indistinguishable from it's sisters - the Rachel Cason (9th Street) and the Roberto Clemente. This bridge enables cars, trucks, The Duck, bikers, and pedestrians to stay dry while moving from one bank of the Allegheny to the other (well, unless it's raining).

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Keith! He had to do much first hand knowledge of the facility,…read morehaving worked there himself when he graduated the army. The tour lasted about 2.5 hours and was mostly outside in direct sunlight. There were a few opportunities for shade, but not many. If you come on a hot day, plan to arrive hydrated and grab a complimentary water bottle from the check in desk. You'll need it. Parking is plentiful, the history is intriguing, and the art scattered about the property is thoughtful and engaging. If you're lucky, you'll spot some wildlife who inhabit the surrounding area.

I come from a long line of steelworkers and thought I pretty much knew all there was to know. That was, until the tour. The tour guide was extremely informative. Most of the folks working (volunteering) at Carrie have some connection to the steel industry. In addition to the tour, I have had the privilege of attending events there as well. Yep, they rent out the space. Everything was well put together at the events and having the furances as backdrop took it to the next level. As far as the tours go, I feel so strongly that Pittsburgh natives and tourists alike take one. It's really incredible to learn how much of the country was built because of Carrie.
