Do not buy powered tools at Andy's Ace Hardware. I recently purchased an EGO mower at Andy's. I used it once and found the performance unacceptable. I tried to return it to Andy's and was told that they would not take it back. They treated me very rudely both on the phone and in person. Both Lowes and Home Depot would have allowed me to return it without question Andy's Ace Hardware is nothing but a bunch of con artists. I will never set foot in the store again read more

If you have never been to this Ace I would highly recommend! I am not sure if it's the same as the one on jewel lake but I feel it's different. There's a nice lady who greets you as you walk in and asks if you are looking for something. They have a fudge counter, they have almost an entire hallmark store with cards as well as Disney, ornaments, and all their hallmark trinkets. Christmas ornaments were 25% off I am not sure if even hallmark does that. They also have all kinds of gift things, even for kids. Unique items like dyed wooden utensils which were cool. They also have a post office in the back! They also have actual hardware store items like chain saws, a whole Stihl corner, garden section outside, Christmas items on sale, key copy center, kitchen supplies, anything. Not sure on pricing, if they are more spendy then big box places you would think to buy a chainsaw, or if their hallmark things are they same price as a hallmark store. I could go on but just check it out for yourself if you have someone with a birthday coming up and need a gift. You'll probly find something you want too. read more

My mother's car broke down on 6th and Boundary as she was trying to get on the highway. She walked to your store and simply requested help to charge her phone so she could call for help. You REFUSED my 66 year old mother a phone or an outlet to charge her phone because of your POLICY??? I have lived in this town for 40 years and I have NEVER heard of something so asinine and shameful. Frankly, I don't care about your policy. I care about basic human decency. After you refused my mother help, she then walked ALL THE WAY down Muldoon where luckily she found someone at Fred Meyer who was a decent enough human to help her. I'm so furious right now and it makes me sad that we now live in a society where we can't even help our neighbors because of a "policy". I will NEVER shop at this store ever again and I implore others to take note of how this company treats people in the community and decide where you choose to spend your money. read more

We've stopped by Andy's Ace many times over the last several years and for the most part, the employees are courteous. We get the standard greeting upon entering and asked if they can help us. We usually give a 'no thank you' as we did today because we like to wander and check things out... which we did. They have a great selection of Stihl tools, which we always peruse, along with Honda equipment. A little bit of everything in Ace. Quite a few Christmas decorations and I thought about grabbing a few, but the price was a bit ridiculous on them, so I passed. We found the hooks we were looking for, however they we noticeably more expensive than the big box store up the street. Did we buy them, yes, but only because they were out elsewhere and wanted to finish the project we decided to expand on after the fact. We got to the register and they wouldn't honor the military discount that they have in the past because it wasn't an active duty military card. Weird, since they have been honoring the exact disabled veterans card for the last 5 years we have been shopping there. Oh well... not that big of a deal, but the inconsistency is a bit off putting and we always appreciate doing business with those that honor our service members. My husband went to Ace Hardware on Muldoon today to purchase a wheelbarrow and metal rake. He politely asked an employee where the wheelbarrows were? The employee yelled they are right back there!! This was in an ugly tone of voice. The employee did not offer to help show my husband where the wheelbarrows were. Next my husband went to the checkout and was purchasing the wheelbarrow and metal rake. The checkout clerk was just as rude and complained that the upc code was not on the take and she would have to key in the code! She was also rude. So my husband was a bit upset, so I called and spoke to a manager. He did listen, but that's all he did. He did mot apologize or seem to care we won't be back to shop at that store. read more

Went here last week while I was in Alaska visiting a friend. This place is more than a hardware store. They sale home goods, cards, handbags, fudge (made in house), chocolates in a display case, gift items as well as plants and tools. They even have a post office inside the store. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. I informed my friend that I could stay a day there easily. The store is well organized and clean. Will definitely go back when I go back to Anchorage. But hands down my favorite part Is the ultra convenient post office.! They are very fast in their postal service. And always very very helpful. If there is any store in Anchorage that is more convenient to stop in to pick up some necessities or a hard-to-find item, Ace Hardware is that kind of place. Andy's Ace Hardware is located near the corner of Muldoon and Duben on the east side of town behind the Cabin Tavern and next to Top Bop. The employees are some of the friendliest and helpful people you can come across. As soon as you walk in, you are immediately greeted at the entrance. I came in looking for a USB connector to attach a laser printer to my laptop. When I asked if they had that item, the front door greeter radioed an employee for help and two associates came to help track down the item. You may be asking, "Well, why are you looking for this in a hardware store?" The answer is that this particular Ace Hardware store has a partnership with Radio Shack and they have an extensive selection of connectors and parts for a number of electronic devices. Very convenient. The price for this item was reasonable for a 10ft. USB cord which was $12.99 compared to other places that had it priced at several dollars more. In addition to electronic parts, they sell homemade fudge daily in the central area of the store along with a grocery section of bathroom or household supplies opposite the hardware shelves as well as stationery for the office. There is also a cool selection of old school candy displayed at the front of the registers. They even have a Post Office at the rear of the store for any mail or packages you need to send out. Anchorage needs more multi-purpose places like this for people running errands. read more

I promise, Kailey (sp. ?), Nuessay (sp. ?) and 'manager' Michael will NOT overwhelm you with customer service satisfaction. In fact - they will watch and even ASSIST you, but will not tell you until AFTER you have addressed two envelopes and three packages (one box which Nuessay helped you fold) that they are in fact UNABLE TO MAIL your packages, as their postal 'service' closes at 3:30. Despite multiple interactions/opportunities to share this CRITICAL piece of information - they will continue to demonstrate their masterful secret keeping skills, all while appearing seemingly 'helpful'. They will further enhance their deception by omission of critical facts, by accepting a package from the customer in front of you (after 3:30) - just not your packages. [I'm still confused by the apparent time continuum differential experienced in Ace Hardware, but I digress.] Not to worry, 'manager' Michael will make a reluctant appearance, and offer a most insincere apology, in the way of blaming the customer (me) for not reading the hours - which are ONLY posted on the main front door [who actually stops and reads this if the store is obviously open?!] Nowhere within the postal service area (for reference located at the very back of the store) is there any indication WHATSOEVER of the 3:30 cutoff, or any other hours of operation WHATSOEVER. But, much thanks and gratitude to all 3 employees for reminding me of what good customer service does NOT look like. I thoroughly enjoyed wasting my time, and having nothing productive to show, as I still need to mail my packages. My review is strictly on getting keys duplicated. I quickly realized Home Depot and Lowe's wont duplicate keys that say "Do Not Duplicate". Andy's will as long as you fill out a form stating the key is yours, and it's not a government key. I asked for four copies of my key. This took a little bit of time between the paperwork, keying in the code, and making the keys. Went home, none of the keys worked. Two days later I went back to the store to get them re-keyed. No one once apologized for the inconvenience of having to come back across town to get their error corrected. In addition, when I arrived the Ace's bag they gave me for the keys somehow got a hole in it and one of the four keys was missing. Thus they would only re-key me three keys. I get that I somehow misplaced the fourth key, but the dang key didn't work anyones so it was useless to anyone. I wish the manager would have stepped up and just comp'ed the one missing key, as I said earlier, it was their mistake that had me coming back to the store. read more

The atmosphere and friendly helpful staff aren't replicated anywhere else in town. This place provides some of the best customer service I've ever experienced (think of Sears decades ago). So many times Ive searched across town for a particular item only to walk into this place and promptly be directed to it. This staff is "old school" in the best sense of the word. Today i purchased a pole saw attachment for my Stihl Kombi system. From my initial phone inquiry to payment, I was impressed with the level of customer service. It's their "secret ingredient"...no other way to describe it. Quite frankly, this salesforce should be making "how to" videos for retailers who want to truly succeed. Don't believe me? Tried to drop off FOOD for the food bank today, 5/12/18-the day postal employees pick up non-perishable food at ALL post office pick up locations. At least that's what 45 minutes of hold time and a brief conversation with a postal employee told me when I called the US post office 800 number. YET--not at Ace Hardware!! They said NO--we are a contracted post office not a real one. I explained the post person would just picked up the single brown bag of food; cans and boxes, when he/she picked up the rest of the mail for the day. NO WAY-said Ace as they chased me from the store!!! Too lazy to add one bag to their out going mail bin? Or just plain old MEAN, DO NOT GIVE TO THE FOOD BANK KIND OF PEOPLE!! I mean it's not like their contract with the post office says 'take mail--but never under any circumstances, take FOOD, on the one day a year that postal employees pick up food!!!' This Ace Hardware sucks. It is way to expensive and most of the employees don't know enough about building, plumbing, general repair to be of much assistance. I bought a 7mm wrench there before I left AK because I was in a bind (I had a 6mm and an 8mm but needed a 7mm to complete a prooject), but a day after buying it I was in Costco and I saw an entire set of about 20 metric wrenches that included a 7mm and it was only a couple dollars more than the single Ace wrench. And the Costco wrenches weren't junk. Ace is just a rip-off. But they have a decent selection of hardware and it was closer to where I lived than a home depot or Lowes, so occasionally I would grab something. Their prices just need to come back down to Earth. read more

Since I've moved to Southern California, really miss this place! You can find just about anything there, and if its not in the store, it can be ordered. You can see how the employees interact with customers; compare that with any other hardware store or big box and its clear the Ace does it right. Their fudge and chocolate.... amazing. If you like dark chocolate you MUST try their dark chocolate truffles. Not what you would expect from an Ace store to have delicious and reasonably priced hand crafted chocolate but I make sure to accompany the hubby every time he needs to run there for his latest project. The staff is always super friendly and on top of it. Not to mention that its a pretty convenient place for a USPS place. While trying to surprise my hubby with a Christmas present and buying tools (air tools) I was clueless, I received help. First of all I've always been a fan of helping out the mom and pop shops the smaller places to keep these things going on in our community. Today I went to Ace Hardware and I saw how they treated a gentleman who was in there Who actually claimed that he had a medical reason for not wanting to wear a mask, whether or not you agree with masks or not personally I'm kind of for them however he had a legitimate argument and they treated him like he had the plague. When probably better than 90% of all of The stores that I go into every day do not require everybody to wear a mask because not everybody in the stores are wearing them. I know Best Buy, cars, both Lowe's and Home Depot, the auto parts store I went to can't remember the name right now but really just about every store I've been into except for two don't require people to wear masks and even the two that did I don't believe would've treated this guy the way he was treated. Went into this business today to mail bday gifts to my granddaughter. At the P.O. Inside. Was greeted by a muffling face diaper wearer. He asked me if I have a mask. I said no. He said I can come in without a mask if I purchase one inside. I said no thanks going to the P.O. Almost to the post office and get stopped by a squirting doughboy who tells me I must mask. I said no going to the P.O. He tells me it is against the law to not wear a mask. I told him no it's not. As a mandate is NOT a law, it is a suggestion. He got so mad he literally started shaking. He said he is going to call the police on me. I told him go ahead. He stormed off to call. Causing a Ken to step to my face and tell me to mask before he left. Squirting doughboy comes back with an entourage of older gentlemen squirters who look like they haven't washed their face diapers in a month since they bought them. They told me to leave if I'm not putting on the face mask. I pointed out the face mask for sale $7.99 and in big white letters across it it says Non Medical. Well I wouldn't buy it and they told me get out. So I left and told them I would post about this and shakey squirting doughboy said go ahead. They all probably squirted all over each other as I left. Starting to think these maskers are turning demonic. Because there is zero medical reasoning for the masks yet if you don't obey they literally want you arrested. Never going to wear the mask! Will never spend another penny in a store that tries to force anyone. read more

Andy's Ace Hardware on Muldoon, use to be a Wooden Building, chalked full of useful tools and items that you really need to Survive thru a winter up here and most items were very decently priced. The sales were really neat with Dollar Flashlights, Batteries, Barbecue Lighters, and so-on. Well, good ole Andy saved his money, and built himself a brand spanking new building right behind the old one. (Now demolished). Well last weekend, I needed some Chainsaw Oil, and sharpening tools, so I stopped by there. Whoa..very cool new building inside, excellent displays, good prices. They have kept all the old records for purchases, so your point system is still intact. Lots more stuff too! Cool stuff! Definitely worth your time to check out. I think he can put Lowe's on notice.
