I'm in my mid-20s and have some medical issues that require management by a hematologist; I'm also a graduate student and very invested in my own care. Previous primary care docs had treated me like an idiot and given me info that I strongly suspected was erroneous. I tried Beamsley on the advice of another grad student (who is also, like me, female), and I am so glad I did. During my first physical, I mentioned that friends of mine in Missouri had been required to discontinue Depo Provera (the birth control shot) because physicians there told them that no one should be on it for than five years. Beamsley, who is also an ob-gyn (I see someone else for that), told me he had never heard anything about such a limit, but he would check the literature. I sort of assumed that was the end of it, but two days later, HE CALLED ME AT HOME to tell me that he had looked into it and found nothing in the medical journals about such a limit. He has always taken the time to answer any questions I've had and he obviously respects my intelligence. He's a little socially awkward, but not obnoxious or insensitive. I rarely like doctors even when I have to deal with them, but I like Beamsley a lot, and I feel lucky to have found such a good PC.

I walked in with a fellow new client, but she was a walk-in and without an appointment. She did speak to the receptionist first and they agreed that they had time to see her and then they subsequently checked me in. We both sat in the waiting area as they were still seeing the earlier appointment. All was well, but it became an aggravating experience when they saw the walk-in next and before me. I spoke to the receptionist as I continued to wait and questioned why the walk-in client was seen first and she clarified that she was a new client. I reminded her that I was a new client, too, but with a scheduled appointment. I did continue to wait and eventually saw Dr. Emmerich. At this point he was running too far behind schedule and didn't have time to deliver my full appointment. I had x-rays done and answered his preliminary questions, but received no adjustments or any of his personal analysis. I had seen a chiropractor in a previous city, so when the Dr. was ending the appointment I inquired if this was a typical first appointment and he confirmed it was not, but what he had the time for with the over scheduling and that we could resume on my next appointment. I asked if I was going to be charged for a second appointment if it was only going to be the 2nd half of this appointment. Dr. Emmerich did allow me to explain my frustration further and agreed I was due a refund, which was promptly issued. Needless to say, I did not return and found chiropractic services elsewhere.

First I was charged $50 to schedule an appointment. At the appointment I was charged $300 for 30 minutes with a PA, not Dr. Phillipi. She explained she would treat lightly and I could return if further treatment was needed, no mention made about additional cost. After treatment only one of 7 spots disappeared. When I called back to schedule the follow up I was told it would be an additional $150. So, effectively I paid $350 to have one spot removed. Is this the new business model--under-treat and then charge to have treatment completed? Very disappointing and seems unethical to me.
