Been unfortunate enough to discover in my early days of school that I need glasses (and back then,…read morebeen different it was not intelligence that I was related to, it was more like jam jar eyes or four eyes etc) I have been a regular to all forms of opticians. Been supercilious when it comes to service and been that this was just not your run of the mill service, it was my eyes and especially when my eyes are apparently the window to my soul I went in search for the best optician in Dublin. Having just arrived back from London, I taught I would stick with what I knew and headed to Vision Express on Henry Street. After a few years of efficient , friendly, professional service in London, I was shocked by the lack of everything that this particular eye care facility had. The staff were the complete opposite to what I had come to expect( no efficiency, no friendliness and a dictionary is needed for them to understand the word professional) so like anybody who buys in to marketing slogans, I consumed. Should have gone to Specsavers! Yes I did. After two consultations though I did miss that extra bit of something that I received from my branch in London. Then on one grey Saturday afternoon my love affair with my opticians began. Introduced to me through a friend, I became a proud member of Vision Express in Blanchardstown. Unlike their counterparts in Henry Street, the staff are friendly and Professional. Not only do they match their service to their counterparts in London they exceed it by offering a touch of Irish 'cead mile failte'. Price wise they are not the cheapest however they do some great deals which doesn't break the bank (and been with them for over two years now I still don't feel it) but the extra few euros is worth the feeling of a stress free service.

The name "Express" is more aspirational than descriptive. My appointment (twice rescheduled) began…read morewith a 30 minute wait while the staff drowned in a sea of customers. Once they reached me things went smoothly, but it wasn't the quick visit that I expected. The same thing happened when I came in to pick up my lenses: the staff were so busy that what should have been a 60 second visit took the better part of 30 minutes. But c'est la vie. Even if it wasn't fast, the service was polite and competent. And that's more important.

On the 30/07/2020 I was with my family taking a walk in Castleknock Village. My little sister has…read moresevere special needs. She has severe dyspraxia, a gravitational disorder and severe hand eye coordination issues. We noticed she kept taking her glasses on and off because the arms on the glasses were too short and hurting her ears. She is severely shortsighted in both eyes so she cannot see much at all without them. We did not need an eye test, or any services with which would take too much time, simply a 2 minute consultation on what to do or, if it was possible, a quick adjustment which we would have been more than happy to pay for. We knocked on the door at approximately 5:00pm and we were greeted by one a staff members, a woman who was approximately 5'6, slender, wearing a black suit with a white blouse. Unfortunately I did not get her name as we were all upset with the interaction and turned away quickly. When she answered the door we informed her of the above and were told " We ll I can't take anyone as I already have one person in the shop but you can make an appointment." We informed her that unfortunately my sister and parents live in a different county and they would be returning home later on today so we could not make an appointment for tomorrow and again we were met with "It's against government regulation and you have to book an appointment." I would like to point out that not wearing a mask, particularly while working in the healthcare industry in which Optometry lies, is also against government regulations and the employee was not wearing one despite being in the store. What is more upsetting however is not the hypocrisy of the employee telling us we were against government regulations when she herself was too, it was the lack of willingness to help a person with a disability. After the interaction I tried to ring to talk to a manager and the same employee answered and said there was no manager. I would like to point out that I had been to Specsavers the other day for my own eye test and the staff were friendly, had masks and were willing to help all their customers. As they are also opticians, they too have similar limitations to the amount of people they can have in a shop and are under the same government regulations Rods and Cones Eyecare are. How is it that a major chain opticians who are always busy can provide better service and care than a small opticians who are significantly less busy, as evidenced by the employee telling me there was only one person in the store? There was a number of ways that they could have helped my sister which would have not broken any regulations: 1: Take a quick look at the glasses and advise of what the next steps would be and how long the adjustment would take OR 2: Take the glasses into the store and be so kind as to adjust them while we waited outside which would not have broken any limitations on the amount of people in the store as apparently, as said by the employee, the limit was one person in the shop at any one time OR 3: If the employee was alone in the store and was finding it incredibly difficult to look after that one customer she could have advised us when that one customer would be finished and then took a quick look before the next customer came in. Under the Optical Registration Board Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics for Optometrists the very first guideline is to act in the best interest of service users (service user being my sister) which they did not. While I recognize there is a challenge in the new way things are run due to the effect of Coronavirus, this should be a time to cultivate empathy for people, especially vulnerable people, who require these services instead of cultivating neglect. This is by far the worst customer service I have ever received, and I feel justified in leaving a review as we tried talking to the employee, her manager and sending an email and we were ignored and turned away 3 times.

They repaired it within a few hours and brought it back to me at work the same day. I spoke to an employee on the phone the day before I had the courier come pick up my phone for them to repair it. The guy on the phone was friendly and helpful. I wanted to see how the phone worked for awhile after repair. And about a month later it has been great and the battery is like new. The only odd thing that happened in the first few days after repair was that the screen wouldn't respond to touch. The volume, lock and home button worked but the screen was on and wouldn't respond to touch. I did a few hard resets and it would go back to normal and hasn't happened since, but it was a little nerve wrecking at first. Other than that I would return here for other repairs.

A few weeks later, the screen shattered from a fall of less than a meter - onto a wooden floor - with a protective case on. I returned and was charged another €200 for a second replacement. This time, they added a screen protector - something they should have done in the first place. Not long after, a blue inky patch appeared on the top left of the screen and gradually spread, making the phone completely unusable. Crucially, the phone had not been dropped, hit, or damaged in any way after the second repair. When I went back, they made me wait over an hour while the phone was supposedly being "assessed" (it just sat untouched on a desk). Eventually, I was told I'd need another new screen--and that it wasn't their fault after spending EU550 with them on two screens. Ended up getting it fixed properly by another provider for €150. Bottom line: Terrible customer service, poor-quality parts, and you'll find better prices and reliability elsewhere. Avoid ExpressTech at all costs.
