That is the kind of personalized, human service that you just don't see anymore, it was so heart-warming to see that there are still professionals around who see their practice as a people first, business next. You can tell right away she's in the ophtalmic practice because of actual care and interest for the patient and that is something worth writing about. I have gone there ever since I got my glasses (too long ago to mention) but they have always been great. The owner Sean O'Farrell is a native of Portlaoise and is currently living in the town. He attended St. Paul's primary school and Patrician College, Ballyfin. He graduated from D.I.T, Kevin St in 1998 and so brings 20 years of experience with him. Part of the philosophy at O'Farrell's is individual, personal patient care. Each person who books an appointment is guaranteed at least half an hour with the optician. In this time the eye exam can be done and advice on lens type and/or frame selection can be given. They said that clear glasses with anti reflective coating will block blue light--which is complete nonsense. (You need orange lenses to block blue light.) They either don't understand what they're talking about or they just try to sell whatever they can to someone who hasn't got an idea about what they need and is seeking advice.

I find the service very personal in Nora's. You're the only person there when you have an appointment. The range of glasses is excellent starting at about €50 for a pair of frames up to a few hundred if you prefer a designer pair. The thing that costs the most in an opticians anyway is the lenses for your glasses. What I especially like about Nora Wickham's is that when you are choosing new frames Nora will let you take a box of approximately ten frames home with you to try on at your leisure and drop them back within a few days after you have decided on the style. Which means no rushing my decision while in the shop. Of course I'm assuming she may do this only after you've been coming to her as a regular.

This shopping center deserves more stars. It's underrated IMHO…read more Let me explain why. Firstly, it has everything you need from a shopping center to do your shopping. Dunne's Store is great and big. Then you can finalize with butcher shop, €1 place, pharmacy, sports shop, carphone warehouse etc. that's shopping for you. Want to hang out or have a lunch? There's a place that robs your pockets. That's right - Eddie Rockets. There's some lunch cafeteria. Ice cream shop. Feel sick? Go to medical and dental centre. Or visit Boots pharmacy. Need a haircut? Barbershop and hairdresser is there for you. On a parking level you can get your shoes fixed, keys cut, get some flowers etc. One thing that this place lacks is entertainment. Actually, there's a kids train that drives around with wagons. At least kids can be entertained. Spacious underground car park. With, I think, two hours free time.

Okay, I'm getting carried away here, they really do have some really nice frames but they're all top drawer stuff, most of them are titanium, and all of them are on the pricey side. I returned in a couple of weeks to say that I just could not see the computer properly and I had stated that this was my main reason for needing the glasses. The owner dismissed me and said I just needed to get used to them. A year later, I am almost a thousand euro down,the expensive frames broke and the glasses are useless to me.Never again !
