COVID got you jonesing for a Caribbean getaway? Stayner has the next best thing in Angie's Place. I created a Yelp account just so i can give this spot the respect it truly deserves. Stewed oxtail, rice and peas? Done and done. I'm not a "pick-it-off-the-bone" kinda guy, but I'm sure if you gave the container a good shake, deliciousness and bone would part ways. (Kidding, don't really do this). Its fork tender and delicious in ways you wouldn't think possible. Go. Do it, pick around the bones, a flavour-bomb is your reward. Jerk BBQ chicken is jerk chicken's milder sibling, cooked right and spiced for a more delicate eater. First bite, really good BBQ flavour, then the heat shows up, fashionably late and knowing it's place as a back-up singer. Don't be afraid, it's what I refer to as "White Boy Spicy", just enough to get your attention, but not over the top. Fried plantains are a must-have side, and to seal the deal, grab two Tings from the fridge, after you sanitize your hands, please and thank you. Angie's is operating as takeaway only, and only a few days a week. Call ahead to shorten your wait, I arrived Friday evening and there were 5 cars waiting for their orders, all were served in minutes. Great little Jamaican jerk house just off of Hwy 26 close to the town of Stayner, Ontario. Authentic Jamaican Roti and Jerk. I had jerk chicken and curried goat and the flavour and aroma was mind blowing. Very reasonably priced, very authentic, definitely worth a visit especially if you're tired of the same old fast food garbage being spewed out by the big franchises. Angie's Place is a small eatery serving homemade Roti and Caribbean rice dishes. Located a few kilometres north of Stayner amidst the farm fields, it's quite easy to miss unless one is specifically looking for a place to eat. The basic selection of Caribbean food is priced around $7-$9 dollars and comes in generous portions. Some sides or a selection of vegetables would be nice, but otherwise a good hearty lunch. Their jerk chicken is quite spicy, but still my favourite. There's a small room with a couple of tables on which to eat, though I've always taken the food to go. I've enjoyed the food at Angie's for many years. Once or twice the food was not great (too salty for example), but other than that it has always been decent. It is mainly just for take-out, but they do have a couple tables and chairs there if you want to eat there. Angie and everyone else there are always friendly. I understand why people think this place has great Caribbean food because people up north have never tasted real good food from downtown Toronto. Let me describe my experience. I ordered jerk chicken lunch special, a goat roti and a beef patti. 1. A small Jerk Chicken lunch special cost $8, and it was boneless and dry, too salty and the rice was not cooked thoroughly. If this was downtown Toronto, it would be on the bone, juicy and very delicious and would cost you $5. 2. The Goat Roti wad too dry, too salty and the actual roti is not made fresh and the cost is $13. Downtown Toronto, you get the same Goat Roti for $7, they make the dough from scratch. Let me explain, its a ball of dough, they run it through a machine that flattens it, they then place it on the flat fryer and it cooks within 60 seconds. Then they come to you and ask you what toppings you want. Who knows what the owner is doing behind closed doors to your food. 3. The beef patti, tasted stale and it was too dry. It also cost $2.50. Downtown Toronto, a beef patty is flaky and soft and they charge a dollar. You know why because a box of 9 costs them $8 or if she buys the box of 36, it costs her $26 dollars. She is making a $64 dollar profit. This place is a ripoff! I am new to the north, I work in Barrie and the same applies here as well. Everything up here is so much more expensive then Downtown Toronto. The people put up with it, but I know better. Never again!! Fool me once!!!!! read more

Off the beaten track. Always have take out on my way in or out of Collingwood. Not a real sit down enjoy your evening type of place. Do not judge based on looks. Authentic jerk. Stopped on way home because it was recommended by colleagues and it did not disappoint. Best bbq jerk chicken I have had yet. Little hard to find but worth it. Don't judge a book by its cover either. It's basically take out but the food was delicious. Your not there for ambience lol. Will stop again to try the roti and let you know how it was. read more

On our way back to the city, we were surprised to see a Jamaican food restaurant. We decided to give it a try. Both the curried chicken roti and the jerk chicken roti were awesome! Delicious roti, friendly staff. Definitely worth a visit if you are up near Stayner and are craving Caribbean.

Finally had a chance to try Angie's.... what a disappointment.... the aroma when you walked in the door was amazing... but the food (chicken roti) bordered on bland and was full of gristle and bones and the roti itself had raw flour inside.... it was a real turnoff.
