I got the Lobster & Scallop XO, which was good but spicy (the server did warn me it had a some spice, but it was still too much for someone who doesn't eat spicy). I tried some of the Cantonese Chow Mein, which was good but also spicy (not warned about that one). Everything about this place was fantastic! Definitely make a reservation of you plan on coming! The staff were friendly and accommodating with a young kid at the table. The ambiance was intimate but still good for large groups. It made being in the middle of the village feel like a cozy little spot. Came here for NYE so we had a fixed price menu. Everything on the menu was delicious and so were their cocktails! (Personally, their wine list, not so much) It was very filling. The only thing our table did not enjoy was the desserts. The restaurant is located in the blue mountain ski village, so it's convenient if you're looking for a place to eat with family and/or friends after hitting the slopes. As with everything else in a ski village/town, it's on the pricier side for the portion size. I really enjoyed the chow mein, but there wasn't much noodles and for $9 extra, the amount of shrimp was laughable. The kung pao chili chicken was pretty good, but nothing outstanding. We also got the Korean wagyu smashburger was really tasty but a wee bit overcooked. For $100, it just didn't hit the spot and we finished all 3 entrees between 2 people because the portions were that small. read more

I came here on a Wednesday evening and it was really busy. The service was a little bit slow, but the ambiance inside was very cozy. It's a perfect spot to come with family or for a date. They have a diverse menu, including sushi, dim sum, small plates, noodle, and rice. The brussels sprouts were really good and light. The fried chicken on the rice was flavourful, but the rice was really hard and dried out. The sushi was mediocre. The food is decent compared to some of the other options around the village. I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant, it felt very romantic and luxurious. We went for dinner ordered two cocktails, which came out with lovely presentation and tasted very good. They also definitely had a good amount of alcohol in it which I always appreciate. The food was very tasty too, however, I was surprised to find the wagyu came out separate from the chow mein, I expected it to be chunks of wagyu incorporated into the dish. The chow mein was delightfully crispy and tasty, although the sauce was kind of concentrated at the bottom of the plate. The bao was very good as well. The only reason I'd be docking some points is because of the Wagyu coming out seperately and the fact it took maybe 1 hour for the food to come out, it was a very long wait time. Very pleasantly surprised by Mother Tongue in Blue Mountain. Easily the best restaurant in the village by far. I usually find most spots here overpriced and not that great, so I wasn't even planning to write a review, but the quality here really stood out. We did the Kamiya Feast and everything was excellent. Came here on a Saturday for my sister's bachelorette with red dress themed. We pre-booked for the Kamayan. Walking in, we were greeted very friendly, Your atmosphere was very beautiful welcoming and definitely full of people. We had Lindsay as our server and she was amazing. Definitely advised if we needed to supplement our meal since it serves for with extra dishes and had some great suggestions. The food came out. It was presented beautifully. My group decided to dine at mother tongue (group of 5) and after we were seated, it took 10 minutes for a waitress to come to our table. We asked for water and it took nearly 15 minutes for us to get some water. About the food: 1. the fried brussel sprouts were great 9/10 2. the pork dumplings 8.5/10 tasty 3. the wagyu smash burger was dry, the presentation was extremely messy, and the fries came to us just BARELY warm 6/10 4. the worst comes last, their sushi. we got the tempura sushi and it was just a bland thick roll of rice with barely any filling - it was quite frankly a robbery. imagine paying $18 for a sushi roll and it tastes worse than a grocery store sushi roll.... Lastly, we asked for the cheque - after our waitress brought our cheques, the machine was super slow, taking around 2-3 minutes per person to pay. I asked to pay in cash and instead of going to reprint my receipt while the POS took its sweet time, our waitress just stood there. I just feel like the staff had no training or mind of their own. Now you might be thinking, just wait a couple minutes till she brings your new receipt - well I did. I waited 8 minutes till she reprinted my receipt, I then paid in cash. It took me 6 minutes to get my change back! 6 minutes, after waiting 8 minutes for two other people to pay with card. 15% of the restaurant full so it wasn't busy at all. honestly I am never coming back here again. Points for having so many diverse items on the menu like ube tiramisu, Cantonese chowmein, sushi and pad Thai. I originally wanted the pad Thai but I was told that it was moderately spicy and they have a 3 point scale for spiciness with moderate being the highest. I was recommended the chowmein instead which was on the lowest end of the spicy scale and I also got the dynamite roll. While the Cantonese chowmein was not traditionally made (not as crispy), it still tasted good to me. The portion was small for $22. The dynamite roll was a miss for me. Unfortunately it lacked flavour and the shrimp pieces were small. At $18 for 8 rolls, I'd skip this one. Pro tip - pay with cash to avoid their 2% charge on credit card payments. read more

Best asian fusion cuisine in the resort village. Would highly recommend if you want to try something different and experiment with new flavors from the other places in the area. Chic ambiance and attentive service as well. Food: For appetizers we got the soup dumplings and lumpia. We're filipino, so the "lumpia" here was NOT lumpia, but two veggie spring rolls cut in half and served filling side up with fancy garnish. It was delicious, but pretty pricey for the portion. The soup dumplings were okay, the flavor was there but the wrapper was WAY too thick. Also wished it came with more, and maybe a black vinegar dip with ginger slices for the price. My dad ordered the lobster and scallop xo, mom ordered the beijing beef, brother ordered pad thai, and I got the bulgogi braised short rib. Everything was absolutely delicious, generously portioned and packed with flavor, and we all scraped our plates bone DRY. I can't even properly describe how good the bulgogi braised short rib was. It was buttery soft and had the perfect balance of sweet and salty. I also really loved that this fusion dish came with rice instead of mashed potatoes, like how short rib is usually served at other restaurants. My family was really happy with their food as well. Would highly recommend, but honestly save your money because you don't even really need the appetizers from how full the entrees get you. Service: Our server was kind and attentive, very accommodating towards my brother's allergies to make sure there were no peanuts in the pad thai. Consistently topped up our water and made sure we enjoyed our meal. The host that night was really cool too. I went here for the first time on a Saturday evening. I tried the Ube Ube cocktail, the Peachee Lychee cocktail, chicken dumplings and the vegetarian pad Thai. The restaurant looks pretty standard outside, but is an upscale nice place inside. This would be a great spot for a date or upscale work dinner/lunch. I know we should've said something, but the table we were brought to was SO sticky! Your plate and cocktail glass stuck like your shoes do in a movie theatre! The Ube Ube cocktail was really good. I didn't expect to like it because of my experience with Filipino desserts I've tried, but this was great. The Peachee Lychee was strong and I didn't really love the flavour combination. I wouldn't get it again. The chicken dumplings were good, and so was the pad Thai. (Nothing compared to the real stuff in Thailand, but good enough for Blue Mountain). I thought it was very odd to serve the pad Thai with sunflower seeds instead of peanuts, but I assume this is an allergy precaution thing. They didn't serve either of these dishes with chopsticks which I would've liked, but by the time the server came by to check on us, I was already close to finish my meal, so didn't bother asking. If you enjoyed the soup dumplings (xiao long bao) at Mother Tongue, have no fear as you can easily get them frozen at any Asian supermarket in the Toronto area for less than $15 a bag! If you aren't able to access an Asian supermarket, then you'll just have to make do with the exorbitantly-priced soup dumplings at Mother Tongue for $18. You'll only get six for the price of a bag of the same frozen dumplings at the supermarket, but you're desperate, so who cares about the price! It was clear that the soup dumplings weren't prepared in-house and they opted for the cheap frozen versions available instead. If the problem was only the soup dumplings, then this meal would have been acceptable, but our whole meal was mediocre and we could not justify the price for the quality of food that was served. The Thai green curry chicken tasted like it used curry paste from the Walmart Asian food aisle. I know because I've purchased the same Thai curry paste to make at home and threw it out because it tasted nothing like our local Thai restaurant. The hot and sour soup was overly salty. The pad thai also looked like it used noodles from the Walmart Asian food aisle and lacked flavor. We knew walking in that this meal was going to be expensive because it was a part of the resort, and we spent a little over $400 after taxes, fees (including a 2% credit card fee), and tips. Save your money; if you are truly hungry, spend it elsewhere at the resort. Just get some overpriced poutine instead and starve until you get home because you would be better off not eating this food. The only redeeming factor was the cocktail; it made the food bearable as I got too tipsy to notice the terrible quality and taste, and we were not going to get another meal after dropping so much on this one. We ended up driving to Toronto to grab king crab and lobster as a redemption meal. read more

During our recent stay at Blue Mountain area, we decided to give this place a try as their menu looks interesting. It was a rainy night and we have our fur baby with us, not wanting to leave him alone at the air BnB, we opted to get some take out instead. First of all, food was all good. Dumpling tasted authentic and yet has a twist such as nice yuzu dipping sauce. The Korean bbq ribs were good and the egg plant was so so good I could have had the whole dish to myself. Only disappointment is they don't do soup filled dumpling takeout, which I understand is hard to keep them presentable. What's more is I was super super impressed when we paid for the bill, the maitre d' automatically skipped ahead on those awkward tipping options, proclaiming "oh, we don't do tipping on takeout!!" Without letting us make those call. This is such a breathe of fresh air in the days of over over zealous expectations on tip !! ( yes I was on a roll because during this same trip, we stopped by some burger joint with high price burger take out at Barrie, yes, a fast food take out with expensive burger, they dare have tipping option on the machine when you pay. There isn't even an easy no tip option. You have to make multiples steps in front the glaring eye of the cashier to state NO! And NO, by principle, I find that ridiculous for a fast food place to expect tipping and on a takeout order to say the least! ) So we will definitely visit Mother Tongue again for its good food and good service. read more

"Wagu" beef slices (no marbling whatsoever) heated awkwardly at table side with a blow torch. Eggplant slices 14" long - how does one manage that with cheap take-out quality chop sticks? The kicker was the "fried chicken" rice that was nothing more than rice-a-roni with big hunks of seriously off-tasting chicken. No veggies, no egg - nothing. Just a few morsels of something that may have been seafood?! Essentially $32 for seafood flavored fried rice, with no actual seafood?! Also ordered the wagyu chow mein. Atleast we could see the wagyu, but it was paper thin. Don't think it was real wagyu as no marbling. Just paper thin beef of some sort, thinner than carpaccio. Another $32. Atleast put a few more noodles! Don't waste your money! Tasty, we'll give them that, but overpriced for what you get.
