On Saturday, I called expecting to leave a voicemail--but Ireena, the office manager, answered. She was lovely, apologetic, and scheduled the call. I got four reminder emails and a voicemail stressing my punctuality--but no one contacted me until 20 minutes after the appointment time. Renata knew I'd had trouble reaching the office but never acknowledged it. She sounded irritated from the start. When I raised my concern, she said, "I already apologized. I'm not going to apologize ten times." When I first met Renata, she was with Karol & Sosnik. She led me to believe that firm no longer existed--but it does. I've already contacted them, and they were warm, welcoming, and professional. I've referred clients to her in the past, but I regret that. I'll be referring to Karol & Sosnik going forward and filing a complaint with the NY Bar.

Second, the reception we were shown from law clerk, Yung Louie, was exceptional. She was great with my mom; offered refreshments, kind words and escorted us to the conference room to enjoy our treats from nearby Bread and Joe. Third, Pauline Yeung, mom's lawyer for a decade, once again guided us with intelligence as I communicated what changes we needed with my mom's Estate Planning. She listened to my concerns, questions and delivered a seamless action plan. I left again, confident that my mom's assets were in safe hands. From the very beginning, everything appeared pleasant enough--smiles, polite tones, reassurances. But once they had secured their fees, the entire demeanor shifted. The courtesy evaporated. What followed was a pattern of condescension, deflection, and outright indifference that never improved. My experience with this firm spans multiple years, not a single isolated incident. I first encountered this behavior over three years ago. Today, due to circumstances beyond my control, I had no choice but to contact them again--and the experience was identical. This is not a fluke, not bad timing, and not a rough period. This is simply how they operate. Simple, basic requests--such as asking for a routine email to be sent--were treated as though they were unreasonable impositions. Communication was strained at every turn. Phone calls were passed from person to person with no accountability. Everyone was a "messenger," no one was responsible, and nothing was ever actually resolved. They are absolute masters at passing the buck. What is most alarming is that this behavior was not limited to one bad employee. Every single person we interacted with behaved this way. It feels systemic, almost institutional--like apathy, deflection, and quiet hostility are part of their training. Their tone consistently bordered on contempt. At no point did we feel supported, advised, or respected. Most disturbing of all was their complete and total lack of empathy. This firm handled an estate during a period of profound emotional vulnerability. One would expect, at minimum, a baseline of human decency. Instead, beneficiaries were treated as obstacles. There was no compassion, no patience, and no acknowledgment of the emotional weight of the situation--just irritation, detachment, and an air of "not our problem." Repeated attempts to resolve basic matters were met with thinly veiled annoyance. There was no concern for outcomes, no sense that they cared how their actions--or inaction--affected real people. The experience left us feeling dismissed, disrespected, and completely worn down. These are exactly the kinds of lawyers who give the profession a bad name. Cold, dismissive, unresponsive, and utterly devoid of accountability. I am writing this so others do not make the same mistake.

They refer to themselves as a "full service estate planning law firm." While this suggests…read moreconvenience, do not be fooled-- they are incompetent crooks. More than half the legal documents and trusts they created for my family were done incorrectly, revocable trusts were used in cases where irrevocable trusts should have been (note that this reset the five year look back required by Federal law for Medicaid planning, and it was discovered by a second set of attorneys we hired several years after the original documents were written), and you will be charged an exorbitant "one time fee" for these services which can be done at much lower expense by a competent law firm. The so called "full service" includes Medicaid planning (community or Federal) via a social worker and the use of insurance brokers who pay a nice kick back to the law firm to have the opportunity to rob you blind. Shockingly as well as shamelessly, Lance's own wife works for the insurance firm and is herself the agent who sells policies to her husband's legal clients (this is illegal in many states for obvious reasons and should be outlawed in NY). Insurance brokers in the very same firm will also try and convince you that you need to purchase an annuity regardless of your financial situation-- this is a one size fits all fast money scam. If you ask too many questions these brokers will try and pressure you into making a fast purchase (tactics include guilting you into believing you're wasting their time by asking too many questions about the product they want to force down your throat, how they know so much and you know so little that you absolutely must trust them with all your money, etc.). For those lacking knowledge or experience in this area, you rarely ever need an annuity-- it's useful only in very specialized situations. You are much safer seeking the guidance of an independent fee based financial advisor. I will add that as you pick up various errors and mistakes made by the law firm, or if you try to contact them to ask questions or complain about their business associates (i.e., social worker, insurance brokers, etc.), you will never get to speak with an attorney. After you pay that one time fee you become a persona non grata--don't let the door hit you back. My family signed on with this law firm in a rush during an emergency and, after discovering our mistake, has heard endless complains about it from dozens of other former clients, all of them with very similar stories and experiences. In fact, we've never met anyone-- even other attorneys-- who has anything positive to say about this law firm. Instead of helping us during a difficult situation, they actually created a mountain of more stress and problems. I could go on, but suffice it to say that there are plenty of good elder care and estate planning attorneys out there--use one of them and stay away from this firm; it's nothing but bad news.

Russel Morgan Legal Group Review…read more Extremely grateful to have found Russel Morgan and his legal group, back in 2019 my mother had fallen ill with cancer and after her passing, me as the youngest sibling, was stuck dealing with real estate she had left for me and my siblings but there was no will and three children, this was by default a headache or so I thought until I had the chance of meeting Mr. Morgan. We sat down and in a matter of one hour he had managed to put all of my questions to rest and give me the peace of mind I needed as well as the guidance to proceed in the best legal way, we had been fighting my case for months before there could actually be an answer to my questions, I visited multiple lawyers to try and get their opinion on the matter but everyone would tell me the same thing "It's a complicated matter specially since there's no will". Upon moving to NYC and pretty much making peace with the idea of letting the real estate just go to waste and allow the bank to take over I met this lady at my job whom I mentioned the situation to and she told me about the Morgan Legal Group and how they helped her when she had to handle legal matters of any sort. She mentioned that he was the best lawyer in Manhattan and he would surely provide options that would make me realize I just hadn't had the chance of meeting with a lawyer who genuinely cares for what he is doing, who is passionate in his job and strives to deliver justice and the right information to his clients. Fast forward I made a call and scheduled my initial consultation with Mr. Morgan and from there my mind was able to rest easy and all of my questions were answered, he was very diligent and exploited all the options and resources to help me win this over and keep the house where I grew up and created so many memories in, other lawyers advised that I should just let it go "get into some new real estate, it's cheaper" but Mr. Morgan didn't even consider that for a second, he got all the right information, he was communicative, diligent and thorough with his work, within a short period of time I was receiving notice from the bank that the house would be remaining under the power of my family and we even managed to renegotiate a better payment plan with lower rates and more benefits than the ones my mother had established for her home prior to her death. The Morgan Legal group is filled with people who KNOW what they are doing, who LOVE what they are doing, who COMMUNICATE the way they work on things and who STRIVE to deliver the best result by any means necessary to those who arrive in a state of despair, he is now my appointed lawyer for absolutely everything that needs to be handled legally and I will keep recommending him every opportunity I may have because he changed my life through his genuine actions, he empathized with my situation and took it upon himself like it was his own.

It is…read moreperfectly fine for an attorney to assign legal drafting to a competent paralegal so long as whatever product that unlicensed legal professional produces is CAREFULLY reviewed by a licensed attorney. Furthermore, while a paralegal can certainly assist in legal research, they should not be the ones doing legal counseling. When a client calls the office with a substantive legal question, someone licensed to practice law needs to answer that question. Attorney Morgan's prices for estate planning are high compared to other similar firms in NYC - they are not unreasonable but on the higher end. Regardless of what you are paying for legal services, you should expect competent representation, but when you are spending a premium, you expect to see the value. At the very least, you should not wait months for straightforward legal documents to be produced, nor should you have to constantly chase down the attorney to keep the ball rolling. And no matter how high-end or low-end a law firm is, you should never receive a final document littered with errors. However, that is precisely the experience Mr. Morgan provided. We received a deed document transfer that had the wrong name listed, the wrong LLC listed (one that was not associate with us at all), and the wrong buyer attorney listed. And no, it is not as if they sent the wrong documents because the information was correct in some places. The issue is that Mr. Morgan delegated the drafting of the document to someone who did an incredibly sloppy job, and Mr. Morgan failed to review the document before having us sign it. Worse was that there was very little accountability. Yes, he apologized when the situation was brought to his attention, but then he proceeded to make numerous excuses, one being that the company he uses to draft the documents doesn't usually make mistakes like that. Even if that is accurate, and this is a rare mistake, he still obviously did not review the documents before having us sign and notarize them. If this was a review for the final approval situation, fair enough, though even then, it's not a great practice to send your client documents that haven't been proofread. But again, this was a notarized document with several glaring errors - unacceptable. I am sorry, but there is never an excuse for an attorney to produce delayed and sloppy work. I. do not care how busy your firm is, part of being in this profession is knowing how to manage your case load. You either need to hire more attorneys or accept less cases, but what you cannot do is send out legal documents that have not been reviewed. This was not only an unpleasant experience. I dare say it was incompetent to the point where I am seriously considering contacting the Bar.
