There is no public beach (actually out of all the 5 lakes in Salem, there is no public beach or access which is a huge negative and public issue) however there are some areas that one can park and access the lake to swim or put in a kayak on town owned land. I kayak on the lake and there are islands to explore and it is so peaceful and the water so clean! It is hard to believe that we are only 45 minutes from Boston! A hidden gem!

I'm sure there are better spots to swim, but this place looks like it gets the job done. Dog friendly everywhere except on the beach itself. Dogs must be kept on a leash. Doggie clean up bags are not provided, so be sure to bring your own.

In the off season it is quiet, peaceful, and a good spot to get some fresh air. The views along the water are great, and the trails are easy to walk. There are a few issues that stand out. In the off season dogs are allowed, but some owners leave their dog waste behind which creates a mess and takes away from the park. This is one of the reasons why dogs are no longer allowed year round. You also see a lot of dogs off leash, and not every owner keeps their dog close or under control which can be frustrating for people who use the park responsibly. Parking has also changed. The lot across the street used to be available for park visitors, but it is now restricted to town residents. Most residents do not even use the park, so limiting parking like that makes it harder for the people who actually come here. Even with those drawbacks, Kingston State Park is still a nice place for a walk, especially in the off season. The scenery makes it worth visiting and it remains one of the quieter places to get outside for a bit.
