We are reverse snowbirds, living near Bigfork in the summer and California the rest of the year, so when our 13-year-old Lab mix suffered a sudden, serious medical crisis, we needed to find a veterinarian quickly. Animal Care Clinic was able to fit us in the same day. From the veterinary technician who took Milo's history and vitals to the veterinarian, Dr Hockenson, who examined him, everyone was professional, knowledgeable, compassionate, and respectful. The veterinarian was thorough in her evaluation and explained the situation clearly. Most importantly, she was honest. She discussed diagnostic options but did not give us false hope or pressure us into unnecessary testing. After examining Milo, I asked Dr Hockenson for her professional opinion regarding euthanasia. She agreed that it was the kindest option given his condition and supported us through that difficult decision. The staff first gave Milo a sedative so he could relax and be comfortable. Throughout the process, both Dr Hockenson and technician showed tremendous compassion. They gave us the time, privacy, and support we needed to say goodbye. I can't praise this veterinary practice highly enough. Our dog got sick while we were visiting from out of state. It was late in the day when we called them, and they fit us in the same day. Our dog was in such bad shape when we arrived and in a lot of pain. They diagnosed her with pancreatitis and started her on an 3-day infusion. She is doing really, really well. Everybody in the office, from the receptionist to the vet tech to the doctor, was wonderful. I would recommend this practice without hesitation. read more

Animal Care Clinic has been caring for our 3 dogs and 1 cat for over 11 years! Dr. Hockenson and staff are terrific! Dr. Thorsgard's legacy of excellence lives on this the new management. Everyone is super friendly and explains everything to us. Our 10 yr old Siberian had a big tumor on her chest which was removed in October and is doing unbelievably great! Our questions & concerns are always addressed quickly and thoroughly. Also, our dogs have been boarded here with no issues. Special dietary food is also available in the lobby. They were very helpful in getting our dog seen quickly (within 30) minutes of our call for a leg injury while in the Bemidji area on vacation. The vet and vet tech were just wonderful and provided a thorough exam of our dog. Thankfully our dog just sustained a sprain ankle/leg. They made room in their already full SATURDAY to fit my cat in who had gotten outside accidentally overnight and was exposed to the smokey air overnight from wildfires... I'm in anesthesia, so I knew my cat's prolonged labored breathing that wasn't getting better (my cat has had nasal polyp surgery in the past-- he couldn't even meow right until he got them out). So when his labored breathing was looking like more respiratory distress, I called this clinic (we just moved to Bemidji), and they were very thorough and nice to me and my cat. The vet diagnosed the problem (asthma and ruled out other worse issues such as pneumonia by taking labs and a chest X-ray) and prescribed a steroid -- hours after giving the steroid, my cat improved and it all went away. I had been using another vet clinic in town for my two cats for years with good experiences. Then my 12 year old cat became ill with vomiting, diarrhea and rapid massive weight loss. I took her in and after they did extensive (they said) tests and X-rays, they told me she was in perfect health! This cost well over $500. I knew something was wrong. I brought her to Animal Care Clinic for a second opinion. They did some tests and within 45 minutes they told me she had a pancreatic disorder. They sent me home with a diagnosis, medication and a pile of prescription cat food for less than half what I paid at the old vet clinic. A week later, my cat is still on the medicine, but the vomiting and diarrhea have stopped and I'm pretty sure she has started gaining weight. The place was a lifesaver. Do not bring your dog here! I called multiple times and was quoted the same priced for boarding my dogs for one night. Upon picking up my dogs, I was told I had to pay 3 times the amount I was quoted! The manager wouldn't give me the price I was quoted, or even work with me on price since it was so much more than I thought I was going to have to pay. I paid the insanely high price and left and took my dogs to get some water and they drank straight for 5 full minutes! They had diarrhea for the next 3 days, even though I left their own food when they were there they fed them different food (whatever they have on hand) against my request as my dog has severe allergies. Do not bring your dogs here! There are so many other boarding facilities that are going to treat your dog with the care and concern they deserve! And they are much cheaper! read more
