A good park for a lil' family reunion. Which is precisely…read morewhat I was there for! We reserved a large pavilion with grills, tables, and facilities (flushing toilets, you heathens). By the time I got there, my family had mostly set up the area, but there were several picnic tables and lots of space for our own lawn chairs as well as setting up some lawn games to play. The park is generously sized and has several large parking lots. There are playgrounds and, the main draw for many, is the beach area. Swimming was free and the sandy area was kept fairly tidy. There were lifeguards on duty, both on shore and at the raft with the slide and diving boards. You must be able to swim out there on your own and demonstrate a basic ability to stay afloat, in order to dive and whatnot. The water is a Wisconsin lake, so expect some algae and seaweed and even some fish. It is nature. Don't expect pristine-ness. I don't know when or if I will ever be back, but this is a nice park with a lot to offer .

This was our family's first time ever at Spencer lake. I made sure my child had their meds, a…read morecomplete print out from their doctor including-medication names, dose, route, frequency, what it was for, the doctor contact information, and even entered descriptions online. I sent that with my child to camp and received a call from my son telling me the nurse refuses to give him his meds. I then grab his medicine bottles and come to camp over 1 hour away. About 20 min from camp I got a call from the nurse practitioner screaming at me today this was illegal, how could I send everything in a pill organizer with a list, they should be in the original bottles and she's not going to lose her license because of me! I truly have never been there before and never received a call or email asking about pill bottles. I explained that everything was in the pill organizer including the detailed list from the doctor. The nurse then yells, "This is illegal!!!!" And then hung up on me! I called the camp back and told the guy what happened. He asked me what he's supposed to do about it? I told him, this was a horrible thing that just happened, and if this person or their staff is okay with treating me like garbage on the phone then how much more are they going to be terrible to the kids! They said, "They will talk to this person but they have been there for 20 years, they were frustrated with all of the pills coming in wrong from everyone, took it out on me, and are old school. I reiterated that it doesn't matter how long they have been there. It's no reason to treat a person like garbage on the phone, scream at them, and hang up on them. This was our first time to this camp and I have concerns about how my kids will be treated. How is this okay in a "Christian camp"? The camp called my churches youth leaders to help me dump out all of my sons meds into plastic bags, and put just the amount of pills for camp in the bottles. This was horrible, humiliating, and done infront of a room full of people. They refused to have me go anywhere near the nurses area. I almost pulled my kids from camp for the week because of this nurse practitioner screaming at me and me being treated like it was all my fault. Meanwhile, I have a grocery bag full of plastic bags with my sons meds. This was demeaning, the guy who talked to me from the camp kept poking my sons meds that I held to my belly (so he was not respecting my space), and overall a horrible experience. I have cried on and off all week because of this and will never allow my kids to go back. This was the most horrific experience I've ever had at any camp!!! How is this allowed at a Christian camp?!?! When he arrived home he missed 2 full days worth of medications and now I have to watch my child for seizures and other side effects for missing his doses abruptly!!!! This is negligence!!!!

Grand Slam Mini Golf has mini golf and batting cages. We were there on their first day open of the…read moreseason for some mini golf and they were still working through getting the course decor all spruced up for the season but the 18 holes were in good shape. I was just glad they were open because it was national miniature golf day! $8.25 per person was a good deal for some fun. As with many places now there is an upcharge for paying with a credit card so bring cash if you want to avoid that. Both of the people working there that we interacted with were friendly.

Many people talk of how clear the water is (a lot of water by beaches in Wisconsin is muddy). Old pines provide shade on a small section of the beach and up on the grass too. A lot of tables and charcoal barbecues scattered about. Cell phones don't work here...bonus right! I've been to beaches in the Caribbean, Thailand and South America but this is my favorate North Woods syle beach. Sunset lake truly looks like something out of a movie or better!

Before moving to Wisconsin, I'd never heard of broasted chicken, but my husband has always talked about it because he knows I love fried chicken. When I saw it in the menu, I knew that it had to be ordered. It took about 15 minutes and when it arrived, the first thing I noticed was how crispy the skin looked. I ordered dark meat because I love chicken thighs. The chicken was spot on awesome! I did have to S&P it but the flavor was still very good. The chicken was so juicy but not greasy which I love. I ordered potato wedges and coleslaw to go with it. The wedges were probably the frozen ones but very crispy and crunchy along the edges. The coleslaw was savory/sweet and one I've missed from living in Texas. All the coleslaws that I've had up here are savory and not enjoyable. This meal was very good. I'll definitely go again and probably order the broasted chicken. My husband enjoys bowling here over where we go on Saturdays for our couple bowling league as the lanes at Waupaca bowl are nicely oiled. We both had the thick cut New York strip, with grilled asparagus and roasted baby red potatoes. I'm going to place my meal here in the top five best meals I have ever had. Everything was cooked perfectly. But the steak, that was hands down the best part; high quality cut of meat that lived up to the thick cut menu description, seasoned and cooked perfectly with almost no fat. The steak came with caramelized sautéed mushrooms and onions that were a wonderful compliment. The asparagus was nicely grilled with great flavor and a good crunch, something that I loved because I hate mushy over cooked asparagus. The baby red potatoes were also perfectly cooked and seasoned. I have an extremely high appreciation for the culinary industry and the art that goes in to quality food, and the meal I had here today clearly presented the strong passion of the Chef who prepared it. The staff was amazing to work with. The course was beautiful and the service exceptional from Andrew. He assisted in helping us get this event off the ground as we had never planned an outing before. Everyone told us what a great time they had. The food was delicious thanks to Bob and his staff. From beginning to end it was a great experience. At the turn, when I brought this up to the employee, she said it wasn't her job to do the maintenance. I asked if we could get money back or 9 holes, she said no and once again it wasn't her problem. I like the course, but terrible customer service drops the rating; and stops me from coming back.
