Up until that point, my vet visits had been covered. But for the final consultation with a vet, the charge was going to be 160 euro. Cremation and euthanasia would have been 344, with a required "cremation package" of an additional 380 euro minimum for a paw print of the cat and a "casket" or paper container of ashes. The total cost for euthanising my cat would have been about 780 euro. This approach to end of life care for my cat seemed to be the epitome of taking advantage of a vulnerable pet owner. The independent vet down the street will charge me less than half that for a cremation with ashes returned. If I don't want the ashes returned, the cost will be 130 euro (and perhaps I will make a donation to the DSPCA). Corporate vets have the means to build shiny premises and hire advertising agencies to write slogans that include terms like "family" and "village" and "care". I have no complaints about the nice young vets who work for Village Vets, although I never saw one who had more than 10 years experience, which would indicate that this corporate is hiring young vets who they can pay less. Still, for anyone seeking a vet I would NOT recommend Village Vets. Look past the bells and whistles of corporate gloss and find an independent vet, if at all possible.

The vets themselves know how to expertly treat your pets, while the care given by the veterinary nurses was such a comfort to Buddy while he was so unwell. I simply could not recommend this veterinary clinic more

When after two weeks there was no improvement I brought the cat to Mark Heffernan on Whitehall Road and he immediately said the cat had Entropion where lower lids turn in on eye causing painful friction and ulceration if not corrected and ultimately blindness. Only an operation would correct. One eye that was shut closed was already ulcerated. He said it was a straightforward diagnosis. Mark did the operation the following morning, I had to keep the cat indoors and treat with tablets and drops for a month. Thankfully he made a full recovery. My cat suffered intense pain for two more weeks than he needed to. There's a lot more to this sorry tale but the nub of it is as outlined. I found the attitude of this vet and his boss, Tom to be arrogant and unprofessional. They 'stood over' the diagnosis and treatment.

COVID meant I was presented with the carrying case including puss, by staff, once I'd paid the bill. I was suspicious when they earlier advised I'd need to give her a bath due to soiling. This pussy was aquaphobic but I'm expected to terrorize her, in what turned out to be, her final 24 hours of painful life, because they couldn't take care of her in house, despite the '5 star' rates. She ended up half shaved to ameliorate the evidence of the shoddy care they provided. The staff, when informed of the cats passing offered comforting words on how close they had been during her stay. Yeh, right! William hurt another dote of a cat when euthanizing her. Unforgivable, but I did. My bad. Had another in for teeth removals. She survived the op but died before returning home. No explanation, just died. Missed little signs like, in front of me saying "Don't you dare!" when one particularly placid cat raised a paw to object to being manhandling, without the slightest hint of malice... In my late 60's and I can never risk having another pet, I'm so traumatised by their 'care'. One star review apparently means 'Not Good' - that would be an serious exaggeration of my positive feelings towards Tom and William. My advice would be to stay away, as far away as possible, from this so called veterinary practice.

When I did bite the bullet and brought one of the cats in, he hyperventilated and so nearly did I. The vet was amazing; she calmed us both down. I make the trek out here (in traffic, it can take a while to cross the city) every few months to stock up on the cats' flea medication. Whatever money I've handed over in the past year to this practice, they've given me back almost as much in free over-the-phone consultations and peace of mind. They've also offered to do house calls, which are double the cost of a normal consultation but it's a good option to have.
