I'm not sure what the deal is here save to say it is generally cheaper than other vets and you can't make appointments. We have used it a few times in emergencies (like when one of the cats got addicted to slug pellets) or when our current beast got a badly infected leg from god knows what. They are just that in Paws a While. They are so genuinely caring and helpful and they treat the animals so kindly and are so gentle and loving towards them. We had to bring our cat Dora down to get an abscess on her back checked out and the vet, Pat Farrelly, was so gentle with her and made sure she was as calm and comfortable as possible. He offered to keep her in overnight as he wanted to bathe the abscess, which would also save us causing her the trauma of trying to get her back in the cat box and then travelling in the car for the journey home, only to do the same the following day to bring her back in for the appointment. He administrated a pain killer and antibiotic injection so she would not be in pain for the night and would sleep well, all while constantly petting her and making sure she was calm and felt as safe as she could. The staff in Paws a While never fail to make a trip to their clinic pleasant and easy because of their professionalism and positivity. They truly care about their little fluffy patients. I would recommend them 100%.

After several years of paying a monthly fee to cover vet visits for my cat, I was appalled at the…read morecharges that would have applied had I gone through with euthanasia and cremation at Village Vets Dundrum. Up until that point, my vet visits had been covered. But for the final consultation with a vet, the charge was going to be 160 euro. Cremation and euthanasia would have been 344, with a required "cremation package" of an additional 380 euro minimum for a paw print of the cat and a "casket" or paper container of ashes. The total cost for euthanising my cat would have been about 780 euro. This approach to end of life care for my cat seemed to be the epitome of taking advantage of a vulnerable pet owner. The independent vet down the street will charge me less than half that for a cremation with ashes returned. If I don't want the ashes returned, the cost will be 130 euro (and perhaps I will make a donation to the DSPCA). Corporate vets have the means to build shiny premises and hire advertising agencies to write slogans that include terms like "family" and "village" and "care". I have no complaints about the nice young vets who work for Village Vets, although I never saw one who had more than 10 years experience, which would indicate that this corporate is hiring young vets who they can pay less. Still, for anyone seeking a vet I would NOT recommend Village Vets. Look past the bells and whistles of corporate gloss and find an independent vet, if at all possible.
