This review reflects only my personal experience as a patient at Ann Arbor Plastic Surgery. I underwent a breast implant procedure and later developed noticeable asymmetry and scarring from sutures that has been very distressing for me. I attempted to contact the practice multiple times to discuss my concerns and seek follow-up care, but I had never received a direct response or a path forward, I was told follow up elsewhere. I felt retaliated against for bringing up my concerns. When I requested my medical records, what I received appeared incomplete and did not seem to include several pre- and post-operative interactions I personally recall. I want to share my experience with Devin Smith at Ann Arbor Plastic Surgery in the hope that others can avoid the frustration and disappointment I've gone through. I sought treatment here for my skin, but unfortunately, the results have been devastating. Initially, I was promised a refund and a laser treatment to fix the damage caused by their treatment. This was verbally agreed upon, but when my skin showed improvement, they failed to follow through on their promise. Instead of offering the agreed-upon laser treatment to address the issues, I was told to go to a dermatologist--leaving me with unresolved damage and no accountability for the harm done. The treatments destroyed my skin, causing severe damage that left me with the damage--severe painful cystic acne covering my face scarring, texture changes, extreme dryness, compromised skin barrier everything burns, physical and emotional pain. I trusted their expertise and was hoping for a solution, but not only did I not get the promised refund or treatment, but I also feel misled and disrespected by the lack of follow-through and the poor outcome. I would not recommend this business to anyone looking for reliable and effective skincare solutions. The esthetician lied about the treatment I was given, saying I had micro needling and laser, she convinced me that the laser only would give better results. She also told me to cover my neck, that she didn't charge for the neck. I got to the counter and the receptionist confirmed (with her) that it was face and neck. She lied to me and her employer. The office backed her lies. I wouldn't trust Ann Arbor Plastic Surgery. read more

$7,600 down the drain!!! I was looking for a new cosmetic surgeon as the one I had is no longer in the area. I decided to choose AAPS based off reviews. When I went there to have chin and jawline tightened, I was offered 2 options. The reason I chose the option I did was 1) it was less down time 2) the surgeon Dr. Lapaine, assured me I would see the results I wanted. My procedure involved neck liposuction with renuvion, which would address tightening the skin. In addition, I got some fat grafting on my face. Fast forward 10 months,...Dr. Lapaine moved so my follow-ups were cut short. No fault to him for moving. The liposuction worked, but I didn't have a lot of fat from the start, just a small pocked under my chin. Now I have platysmal bands and loose skin on my neck and chin, where I never had that before. Also, none of the fat grafting adhered, so that was a waste of $2,000. I was told by Dr. Lapaine they would do touch-ups if I wasn't satisfied with the fat grafting, but he left, and apparently so did that promise. Today I went and met with Dr. Malhorta to discuss my disappointment with my results. When he came in the room, he didn't introduce himself or bother to shake my hand. He stayed against the door and seemed to already have a defensive attitude. He was very dismissive, and tried to tell me the platysmal bands were always there, yet I was a bodybuilder for several years, down to less than 10% bodyfat, and never had those. I researched "platysmal bands after neck lipo" on-line via medical journals and reputable sites (not reddit, realself, and such sites). All information pointed to a surgeon not doing the procedure correctly. Dr. Malhorta's solution to make me happy? I could pay even more money to get botox in my neck to try to soften the bands. Didn't even offer to cover that. I will say he did offer to do ONE treatment of PRP under my eyes because of the fat grafting not adhering, but when I mentioned AAPS's own esthetician said a person needs at least 3 session of PRP to see favorable results, he said they would only pay for one. So, as much as I loved my esthetician there, I will not give one more penny to AAPS. I have given quite a bit of money to them over the past few years. I can now see why they can neve get a 3rd surgeon on board,....who would want to join that team?? About 5 years ago I noticed my hair was thinning in the front and my hair line was receding. At first I was just mildly concerned but as time went on it had gotten noticeable. After a while it was always in the forefront of my mind. I shied away from cameras or deleted pictures that weren't at the "right angle." I didn't want happy memories to be over shadowed by my negative thoughts of my own image. At the time I felt so silly for being so vane. However, my confidence was fading with every hair I found at the bottom of the shower. At some point the shame I felt gave way to my need for confidence. I started looking into solutions and happily stumble across Ann Arbor plastic surgery and the new FUE hair restoration treatment. Like most people I don't want the old 2000s hair plugs that were super noticeable and painful looking. Luckily, Ann Arbor plastic surgery uses the FUE method of hair restoration which has a simpler donor extraction method with much more realistic results. I was curious and booked a consultation. What could it hurt to just look into it? I came in nervous about everything but after I left I knew I would be booking a treatment. I wanted this for me and felt no judgement about wanting something for myself. The staff there were kind and knowledgeable. They made me feel confident that this was the right decision. Day of my appointment was a simple and smooth one. I laid in a chair and watched tv as they went to work. The staff were attentive and accommodating to anything I needed. Overall it was a day in a chair making jokes with the doctors. It's been a few years since then and naturally my original hair has thinned with age leaving the new donor hair to stand alone. The first procedure brought my hair line forward and it was great. My grafts still stand and look amazing. However, time has won out and I'm back again to fill in what time has taken (the original hair.) I've looked at both my mom and dad's side and I think with my genetics one more round should be enough for good. Hopefully, and sadly, I probably won't be coming back for more grafts after this. My only regret is not doing it sooner, and feeling any kind of shame for wanting to feel better about myself. I have so many photos with a less confident face when it should have been a happy memory. From the start of scheduling my consultation, to my post OP appointment, I've felt like a valued patient. Tammy, Dr. Malhotra's coordinator, assisted me in finding the perfect size to go with for my breast augmentation. She also helped ease any nerves I had, answered every little question I could come up with, and helped me navigate the entire process smoothly. Anything I needed, Tammy made sure I was taken care of! I went to get some fillers and everything was great. I came back to get a laser treatment and asked for a consultation with the woman who does fillers as my anesthetician had left, and started her own business. During the consultation, she recommended some things so I decided to come back for an appointment. They were very minor, and when I came back for the appointment she said well maybe you should do some work on your chin too. She mentioned some units that she was going to put in and asked if that was OK. I've been several times and they were very clear with me what it was going to cost. When I want to check out they said the cost was $3500. I had no indication that I was spending that kind of money. I'm not happy with the results and I felt like I should have been given a clear amount of what the cost was, I don't normally write reviews, but I want other people to know to be sure to ask and get it in writing. She said she was going to use 5 portions but ended up only using 3. I can't imagine how much I would've cost if she used 5. I had a nose job done by Dr. Malhotra a year and a half ago. I have what is known as a "pug" nose with curved nostrils and a bulbous tip. I have hated my nose for over 20 years but I never had enough money to do anything about it. During our consultation I told him I was having plastic surgery to get rid of the curvature and bulbous tip of my nose and that I definitely wanted my nose to look different. Right after telling him this he said "So you're going for something subtle and not obvious". Um... No... That was NOT what I was going for. If I absolutely HATE my nose why would I want it to look only slightly different? I showed him plenty of photos of how I would like my nose to look and he barely looked at them. He also tried to tell me that "African American" nose skin is too thick to do what I was asking. Um... considering I am half black and half white and NOT "African American" and my nose is exactly the same as my white mom's nose, that is not true. And considering most of the "African American" women in Hollywood have had successful nose jobs, obviously "skin thickness" is not an issue for doctors who actually know what they are doing. I also saw that he had supposedly done two pug noses prior to mine and they seemed to turn out okay (or perhaps they weren't even his patients), so I thought he would be able to successfully perform my nose job but boy was I wrong. I waited over a year to write this review because all of the information on rhinoplasty states the swelling can take at least a year to subside. So, I waited to make sure of the final result and the result is I paid $7,000 for my nose to look EXACTLY the same as it did prior to the surgery. I am LIVID to have wasted that much money to look exactly the same! I waited over 20 years, took the risk of undergoing surgery, was so excited thinking my life would change and that my nose would finally match the rest of me and nothing changed. Do NOT waste your money with this doctor. If you want a nose job just go to LA where they get plenty of practice and would definitely do a better job than this guy. Or even go to Brazil which is now one of the premier plastic surgery destinations and pay only half of what you would pay here. read more

I have always been a thicker woman with a large bottom but always a very small chest. Through the years I've gained and lost weight but still never was very busty. I had started researching breast implants when I was 15 years old, before the internet really had a lot of information on them so I was reading medical journals and really anything I could get my hands on. Once the information was available on the internet, I continued my hunt and research on BAs in hopes that I would get them done. I have gone to several consultations in the past 10 years and have looked in numerous galleries from all over the country. In Michigan alone I've researched 8 Dr's and have had consultations with 3 of them. I had heard of Dr. Malhotra in previous years from acquaintances and have looked into his portfolio but the timing wasn't right. Finally, I had lost quite a bit of weight and started getting a little more serious about it. I had started working with a trainer who raved about him and his staff and I decided at 37 years old, it was time to finally bite the bullet and atleast go for the consult. The consultation is $75 and 10 years ago I would have refused that but now, if a dr doesn't have a consult fee, that means they have too much time available which is a bad thing. I was more than willing to pay it. My first contact was Tammy, who is more of a patient advocate/specialist/mentor/friend than anything. She was very kind and embraced your excitement as her own. She herself was very knowledgeable regarding the procedure and answered any and all questions. I didn't feel rushed in any way and was given all the information I could have needed. Dr. Malhotra then followed that initial meeting and answered my laundry list of questions (I had been researching for a long time, i had a few). He wasn't annoyed by the questions and was more than happy to answer. One thing that I liked about him more than anything...this may sound weird. He wasn't over done with cosmetic surgery. One particular consult, the Dr was so horrifying to look at due to being over done, I couldn't imagine using him. Anyways, Due to the assymetrical size of my breast, we decided on two different size Mentor Memory shape, tall height, moderate plus profile implant. It was also determined that we would do a lift on just the one breast as the other didn't need any help. Tammy continued to answer all my questions prior to the surgery and at the pre op was very thorough in answering all my questions and calming any fears or nerves I had. On the day of the surgery the staff at the surgical center was absolutely amazing. From Sue at the front desk to Kelsey in the back, they were all so awesome but more importantly, every single one of them told me I had "The best surgeon" and how lucky I was to have him. The surgery was only 2 hours long, and the only real pain i immediately felt was in my arms which apparently was odd considering where the pain was. The first day I had a hard time bending over and grasping objects but pain was a 1-2 tops. Day 2 pain was a 3 at the most and through the course of 5 days I never exceeded more than a 4. I couldn't be happier with my experience as a whole and couldn't recommend this group of people more. Dr. Malhotra has a phenomenal team of people that combined with his artistry makes him an absolutely amazing PS. I went here for a submuscular BA two weeks ago. The quick recovery technique utilizes a unique method of cauterizing rather than ripping the tissue. This has the effect of sealing off blood vessels for less bleeding, trauma, and inflammation; it also somehow allows for an incredibly quick recovery relative to other breast augmentation methods. my friends in the industry im in who have BAs are also commenting on how quick the drop and fluff process has been relative to their experiences with BAs. The aesthetic results from this office are superior to the others ive seen from other docs in MI as well. the surgery center was great, and the nurses were incredible in their bedside manner, the anesthesiologist was both professional and compassionate and held my hand into the operating room; surgery staff was friendly without being over the top or coming off as insincere; Tammy Neelis was incredibly patient with me and went out of her way to answer all my questions on the phone and to say hello to me in office even when she didn't have to and also seemed to be well informed about the procedures; and of course im sure I had the best of the best surgeon in town for the process. I also heard from around the grapevine he is in his late 40s but maintains the secrets to eternal life by looking like he is 30 so you know you are trusting your breasts or face to a real life magician (he even speaks Sanskrit ). Overall I would highly recommend this and think it's one of the best decisions I've ever made so far although we are only a week out. read more

OMG!!! I'm so in love with Dr.M and his office. After checking out a few other surgeons to do my revision, I just couldn't get the pleasantness and the thoroughness of Dr. M off my mind. He didn't rush me off the phone even though I bombarded him with many questions. He answered every single one and made me feel really comfortable with choosing him. When I finally met him for my pre-op and talked to him even more, I was sold. He came in to make sure I was ok before the surgery, and he called to check on me couple days afterwards. One of the best decisions I made was choosing him. Now let's talk about Tammy!! The greatest office staff person EVER. She was my main contact person from beginning to end. Very sweet person. We talked so much via internet and over the phone trying to plan all of this, that I felt like I already knew her by the time I got there. She gave me the biggest hug when I got there, and she pretty much was there for me through the whole process. So thankful for her. The whole office staff is great. Very welcoming. They make you feel comfortable as soon as you walk through the door, and they have the bubbliest personalities in person and over the phone. I was so out of it when they were giving me instructions so all I heard was peas. I woke up the next day obviously starving from preop fasting, I kept remembering something about peas, so I convinced myself that he said to eat the peas lol. Umm no! I was supposed to use the peas as an ice pack to help with swelling, not eat them. : / read more

Today was my second IPL treatment with Jennifer. She did a great job and after the first I noticed a difference with the redness I have due to rosacea and some brown spots. I've only went here to get one round of coolsculpting done. I'm aware that you typically need a few rounds to see full results, however I was expecting at least a LITTLE bit of difference. But I saw absolutely no difference whatsoever and it has been about 9 months since I got it done. I saw the before and after pics and they looked the exact same. I was disappointed because I workout four to five times a week, and also eat pretty healthy. I just had very minimal abdominal fat I wanted to get rid of. I was assured that since I'm smaller framed I'll see great results - which I did not. It's pretty painful as well when they give you the massage after each applicator is taken off. I was quoted $3000 and this is after a promotional discount and also a credit I had was applied towards this procedure ... which is quite pricey for one round of cool sculpting. They may be good at their other services I'm not sure But I wouldn't suggest getting cool sculpting done on your mid section. read more

I had a tummy tuck and liposuction done by Dr Malhotra a couple of years ago.. a complete hack job.. I was told that it maybe a little uneven but what he did is unacceptable.. I am very displeased with the result. My belly button is to the side.. I also had some complications with healing and they did not want to follow up. Do not go there for tummy tuck!!! read more

I have never truly realized how rude doctor office receptionists are until I had the pleasure of working with the receptionists at Ann Arbor Plastic Surgery! I haven't even had my appointment yet (as a new patient) because I have had to cancel so many times, but they are always so friendly and helpful and it is such a relief. Also, I signed up for their emails and they ALWAYS have amazing discounts and deals on all different treatments. So, awhile ago I received one about $9 a vial botox which is a really great price but it was only for one week. I called to see if I could make an appointment that week and they said no but they honored the deal for my appointment anyway. Well, I have had to cancel that appointment a few times and they are STILL honoring it like two months later. I am so excited to work with them! read more

I had the cool sculpting mini used on my double chin with fantastic results! A lot of places offer cool sculpting treatments to reduce fat in hard to lose places but very few offer the mini which is needed to treat a double chin! I've been considering Botox for about a year and I finally chose to check it out. I couldn't be more happy with the out come. I found out about AAPS through multiple refers from people in the area so it was a obvious choice. The office is super clean and the staff is so friendly. Abbey did the procedure for me and she was great, right from the start she made me feel super comfortable and talked me through everything.
