I was in awe to see alligators come to our boat because Mr. Jimmy our tour guide would called them by NAME!!! Wow!! The rain was awful this morning and we thought that our swamp tour might be canceled but it all cleared up. We were able to enjoy a beautiful ride thru amazing views and got to meet about eight alligators Mr. Jimmy called by name. They came over to our boat to get fed and pose for awesome pictures. I didn't expect to come out so relax after this 2 hour ride. But it was a perfect day for this. It was overcast and a cool breeze running thru. We paid $25 dollars per person and made our reservation a week in advice. You need sun block, a hat and sunglasses. I loved every minute of it!!! I recommend everyone who is visiting New Orleans to drive to Houma and take a relaxing boat ride. read more

I always love going on a swamp tour when in NOLA. I have been doing it for years. If you go in April and May, just know the gator might not be running. Usually in June to early July they're the best. And when it gets too hot, you won't see anything. Good people though and when the gators aren't there, the guides will tell you plenty about the trees and plants. You might even be lucky enough to see some wild hogs that will swim right up to the tour boats... when there aren't gators around. Good time. The earlier in the morning you go... We enjoyed the stories, boat ride and interacting with little red and the rest of wildlife of the swamp . We talked about the swamp, plans , our lives, our homes and... This an awesome personal tour and you will enjoy it, don't be suckered into to one of those tourist traps down in French Quarter on a large boat with hundreds of random people . rent a car and make the drive down to Houma and get to experience a real deal with Annie Miller's son swamp tour. plus for $20 its really a best bang for your buck. Jimmy is a great guide! Not only did we see gators, but also learned about the vegetation in the area. For only $20.00, this tour is a must.

We loved Jimmy! He was friendly and VERY knowledgable about the swamp and the plant and animal life. I loved how he has names for the gators and they come swimming up when the heat him call. We went when the gators were just starting to come back out for the summer, and we saw 6 of them. We also saw bald eagles up really close, but they leave in May so you probably won't see them if you go in the summer. We saw lots of different birds too. It was $20 a person, but most of us gave him an additional $5-$10 tip because it was such an awesome experience! read more

This was the cherry on the sundae of our trip to New Orleans. Our guide, the son of Alligator Annie herself, was an expert, in both telling stories of the bayou and in handling his boat. His stories were fantastic and gave real flavor to the tour. We went in February so a lot of wildlife wasn't around, but he did his best by us, finding 3 alligators who were awake and maneuvering the boat so we could get closeup photos. We also saw various birds including a few bald eagles! The scenery along the waterways is gorgeous and worth the trip alone. read more

I've taken visitors on swamp tours with about 7-8 different companies over the past couple of decades. I grew up in Houma and currently live in New Orleans. I decided to review the tour I took yesterday (Munson's) because it was soooo bad, I feel compelled to save every visitor from wasting their money...and instead give it to Annie Miller's Son's Swamp Tours (if you're in the Houma area...if you're in other Slidell or Baton Rouge, there are tours I've enjoyed there as well). About Annie Miller's Son's Swamp Tours: Jimmy (Annie's...who is now deceased...son) gives every tour. He points out and explains everything he sees. He calls out to the alligators and feeds them...they jump to take the chicken off the end of the pole and that's quite fun and exciting. His charge was $15 last time I went on a tour with him. He can fit up to 25 people on his uncovered boat and his seating is very adequate. The only downside I feel is that his tour takes place primarily in wide open canals so you don't get that lush "swamp" feel until the mid-way break where he takes the boat into that type of area for a rest and photo op....and it's truly gorgeous. The other downside of being in the canals vs. primarily in the swamp is that IF it's hibernation season and the main thrill of seeing Jimmy feed alligators is near to impossible, you're just kinda taking a boat ride through a canal...albeit an informative one where he'll explain everything from the birds to the trees, etc. I've been on this tour so many times, I probably could fill in for Jimmy if he can't do it. I love his tour and only have tried others because...well, I could fill in for him if he can't do it (i.e. I'm personally just a little tired of hearing the same thing over and over even though it's a brand new experience for every visitor I bring). Also, it's a little far from where I currently live and I've recently tried to take in a few in the local area (LaPlace and Slidell). If in Slidell, Cajun Encounters was great. If in LaPlace...leave, for heaven's sake, and go somewhere else. Cajun Pride in LaPlace was very unimpressive to me (my comments are included in my review of Munson's...which is also in the Houma area). Additionally, for what it's worth, every time I kinda groaned inwardly that I would be going on this tour again (just because I know it like the back of my hand), I've left the tour with a huge smile on my face just like my visitors' faces...and have always been very relieved and happy that I decided to go with Jimmy again. Only once was I disappointed in 15 years...and it was only because it was early in the year, we'd had a particularly cold winter, so the alligators were still hibernating...however, my friends still seemed to love it.
