I moved to the San Diego area and was looking to get back into Taekwondo. I had earned my red belt when I was stationed in Korea 30 years ago and, being deployed all the time, I was just never able to take class again after I got back. I found Master An and he was so welcoming! 30 years older (58) and overweight with a lot of broken parts, he takes what you have left and works with you and your abilities. I am working my way back up to where I was, lost over 60 pounds and look forward to the next class because it is so fun here! We really are a family. There are complete families who attend here - mom, dad, kids and have been here for years. Even the kids who have gone off to school always come back here on their breaks to take class. Master An is a wonderful instructor. He is so perfect with the little ones! The kids really seem to enjoy their classes, and you can tell he has so much fun teaching them! This is not a huge school where you are a nobody. Since everyone is at a different level, he gives special attention to each person. Everyone here is very encouraging to each other. I was looking for a place that does TKD in North County and had a few options to choose from. This place looks pretty humble and is smaller than some of the others, but it is AWESOME. It's a family-owned business, and the main instructor, Master An, is experienced, knowledgeable, great with kids, and he makes it *so much fun*! Sometimes there are younger coaches (perhaps advanced students) who help out, and they are great too. My child is 6 and not the most out-going or physically adventurous person, but they LOVE coming to TKD. Seriously, Master An seems to really love to teach these kids and makes it so much fun to learn. I have talked with other parents while waiting outside/around and they all say the same thing. It's just such a joy to see your child love an activity this much. Can't recommend them enough. So glad we decided to try this out instead of the larger more commercial establishments. I earned my First Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo in my early 20s in Northern California. Years later after marriage and kids I enrolled my son, and later my daughter in Master An's Dojang in Vista. I have worked out in three different Do Jangs between South Carolina and here in California, and Master An's studio is my favorite. He has the only adults-only classes in the area, and they are full and very challenging. As an adult this is very hard to find. I usually end up in the teenager's class because my last two Do Jangs didn't offer "adult" classes per se. If you are new to the area and looking for a great TKD experience with a very professional teacher, or if you are thinking about learning Martial Arts as an adult (like I have done), Master An is kind, patient, and a master instructor. His classes are challenging, but still fun. I don't have enough good things say about Master An, and I could gush on-and-on about his studio, but if you're looking for a Tae Kwon Do home, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better place in San Diego County. If you're looking for quality Taekwondo around Vista, CA, this is the place. Master An is awesome and puts on great classes. He's an incredibly energetic guy who takes care of everybody, has a great sense of humor and keeps the classes interesting. Not only is he incredibly skilled, but he's also a really nice guy. He teaches pure Korean Taekwondo although he occasionally mixes Hapkido and a few self defense and wrestling moves in. We had searched through-out Vista and the surrounding areas for a few weeks visiting various Taekwondo studios before stumbling on this place. What a find! He has great kids classes, beginner classes and advanced classes. He also has an extra Saturday morning class for those that are extra dedicated. Master An had a larger and thriving Taekwondo studio in Korea where he was also a registered acupuncturist. He came here a couple of years ago to start a studio in the United States and his number of students has been steadily growing each year. He usually has some sort of 2 week trial deal running where you pay somewhere around $40, get a free uniform and can take part in classes. This is definitely worth it. I think you'll like his classes. Give a call for the details. It's a family run business. You'll probably talk to his wife if you call. I visited thanks to the help of a friend who's a blackbelt - thought I was going to just hang out and watch Friday night sparing, but to my surprise the owner/teacher welcomed me in to enjoy the class. It was awesome! A great workout, confidence builder, and everyone was so nice! The facility was perfectly clean and just can't get over how everyone made me feel so welcome. This is not your average neighborhood martial arts studio. Master An is a superior tae kwon do instructor who is very enthusiatic and passionate about teaching. He is excellent with his younger students and emphasizes the importance of respect for themselves and their family. The students at this studio are all good kids and get along well. My son and daughter look forward to classes because the studio is a positive place where they can be with their friends and get a great work out. Master An mixes in fun games which the kids love. An's Taekwondo is the best thing I have done with my family. Master An is an incredible teacher who leads with his example of respect and humility coupled with a great sense of humor and strong work ethic. Master An expects all students to show respect to each other and to him and also to work hard and focus in class--but he also makes it fun. Going to TKD class is usually an incredible workout and also teaches us every day about discipline, self defense, pushing yourself and working hard to learn something new. One of the things I love about the way he teaches is that he stresses to not compare yourself to the other students of differing abilities but to compare to YOUR own best ability. He stresses the importance of developing "your martial art" that is within your ability which is why very young children learn well in addition to teenagers, young adults and guys and gals in their 40's and 50's. We all love Master An. Master An is a master of several martial arts so he incorporates Hap Ki Do (Korean Self Defense) into many of the classes to teach everyone from the little kids to adults how to defend themselves in an "emergency time" if attacked by a stranger. Master An is a Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido Master who is a great teacher and inspires his students to reach their full potential. He leads by example with his hard work and dedication to his students. He teaches the physical and mental aspects of Taekwondo and Hapkido, and makes each class unique and challenging. HIs students range in age from 4 to 60.
