As this was not off putting (initially), when I asked her how many workers made all the candy offering and trivia about Goumas (she responded as if I were a spy from a local candy shop trying to get intel). Pretty sure she said, "my husband does all of the caramels of course." So guessing she may be an owner. Great candy, could have been a one off experience. At $30 per pound, a sample and a few interesting facts about the Newark landmark Candy shop would have been a small and appreciated show of appreciation (in and of itself). Yoder Market has a variety of delicious Candies at much more reasonable prices and they, Thank me for my business (every time).

Sadly, while out of state Goumas fell off my radar but I'm here today to remind everyone how wonderful Goumas candy is and encourage you to visit one of their locations. They have three locations: Heath, Ohio, Granville, Ohio, and Newark, Ohio. We stopped in while waiting for the Licking County Courthouse Christmas lighting and for a brief time we were the only ones in the store located on the North side of the square in downtown Newark, Ohio. The cases were full of delightful candies and the two ladies behind the counter were cheerful and fun. They greeted us right away and my family chose several delectable candies ranging from chocolate covered Oreos and potato chips, to English Toffee, to Coconut Haystacks, to a wide range of truffles (my personal favorite). I escaped with a bag full of goodies to sample as we walked around the square as well as a box of assorted truffles. I highly recommend a visit to one of their three locations and don't forget to pick up your buckeyes!

They had plenty of standard items, plus a bunch of things for Easter. Bunnies, crosses, etc., in various shapes, sizes, milk/dark chocolate, etc. I had to get a bunny for Baby K, of course, and she liked it. No sugar free, so nothing for my mom (though dark chocolate would be better for diabetics.) They had just made peanut butter eggs, so one of those for Sweetie. And then I had to keep myself from getting one of everything for me. Ended up with eagles (turtles,) toffee, and bacon brittle. The eagles are excellent: rich chocolate, good caramel and nuts, one is enough but you will want more. The toffee is good, pretty hard so none for Baby K or anyone with bad teeth, wrapped in rich dark chocolate. Haven't tried the brittle yet, but come on, bacon, you know I had to get some. Yeah, yeah, there are peanuts in there, too. I bought too much, and yet am afraid I will run out too quickly. Prices are a little high but you get what you pay for- this is good stuff. Glad to see local businesses making it through this. Glad this place is here. I'll be back. Note: the sign says Eagle Family Candy, not John Eagle, and it's a tiny place so use GPS and be careful. Oh, and speaking of careful, good safety procedures here, with hand sanitizer on the counter and minimal contact. But, it is small, so it would get crowded easily. Only open 11-4 currently.

We stopped by Graeter's to celebrate our granddaughter's birthday, and it turned into a really…read moresweet experience from start to finish. She went with mango sherbet on a sprinkle sugar cone (birthday-approved choice), my wife ordered Madagascar vanilla on a sugar cone, and I couldn't pass up the chocolate coconut almond chip. Every scoop was rich, creamy, and exactly what you expect from Graeter's -- that classic, small-batch, handmade quality they've been known for since day one. The shop wasn't very busy, which made things even more enjoyable. The guy who helped us was incredibly friendly and helpful, and he went above and beyond by not charging us for our granddaughter's ice cream since it was her birthday. That kind of kindness really sticks with you. After ice cream, our granddaughter had an absolute blast in the attached playroom. It's decorated with fun ice cream-themed items and includes a giant banana seesaw, a huge ice cream cone jungle gym, and even an ice cream sundae slide. It's such a great touch for families and made the visit extra memorable. Great ice cream, friendly service, and a fun atmosphere -- Graeter's continues to do it right. We'll definitely be back.

She even tried to give a discount card, which I gave to my daughter and fiancé. Now, the look is different from the taste. We were disappointed. The stuff seemed older and very dry. The chocolate on the malted milk balls tasted like the cheap stuff you get at the dollar store. We probably won't go back even if in town.
