Sadly, while out of state Goumas fell off my radar but I'm here today to remind everyone how wonderful Goumas candy is and encourage you to visit one of their locations. They have three locations: Heath, Ohio, Granville, Ohio, and Newark, Ohio. We stopped in while waiting for the Licking County Courthouse Christmas lighting and for a brief time we were the only ones in the store located on the North side of the square in downtown Newark, Ohio. The cases were full of delightful candies and the two ladies behind the counter were cheerful and fun. They greeted us right away and my family chose several delectable candies ranging from chocolate covered Oreos and potato chips, to English Toffee, to Coconut Haystacks, to a wide range of truffles (my personal favorite). I escaped with a bag full of goodies to sample as we walked around the square as well as a box of assorted truffles. I highly recommend a visit to one of their three locations and don't forget to pick up your buckeyes!

There is false marketing in the store because there is a huge sign that says free samples inside and my children rushed to get the samples but were sadly disappointed when they came to realize that the store did not actually give free samples. The ambiance in the store was rude and negative and was not an experience I enjoyed. The children said the candy was good but I believe it was overpriced and they were out of stock with many items. They seemed annoyed when the children walked in which made them very upset. I overall did not enjoy this experience and neither did my children.

Pretty sure she said, "my husband does all of the caramels of course." So guessing she may be an owner. Great candy, could have been a one off experience. At $30 per pound, a sample and a few interesting facts about the Newark landmark Candy shop would have been a small and appreciated show of appreciation (in and of itself). Apparently the inside hasn't changed much in over 50 years, per my husband's aunt. We only came here for ice cream so I can't speak much for the rest of the food and offerings. Their ice cream selection has a lot of options and definitely be aware it will give you a sugar rush! They offer classic flavors and have rotating seasonal flavors. When we were there, coffee ice cream, my favorite, was on their rotating seasonal flavors. They also had some holiday seasonal flavors, like egg nog and pumpkin pie, since we were visiting around Thanksgiving time.
