Chanel Barber Shop - Husband getting a haircut by Joan

This was our first time there and we loved the experience. If you're looking to get a scissor haircut, this is the place you want to go. We had issues booking online, so we called before to make sure they were available. They also accept walk-ins.

I recently visited Chanel Barbershop in Sharpsburg GA for a first-time haircut, after reading…read moreseveral glowing reviews about this barber shop. Initially, when you walk into Chanel, it looks very impressive. The walls are all painted white, soothing pictures hung on the walls, a free coffee area, semi-barber cubicles overly stocked with an impressive array of hair styling products & tool, barbers dressed in white long sleeve shirts with black ties, pants & shoes and small flatscreens at every barber cubicle for customers' enjoyment. However, that is where things start to go downhill fast. Here's a list of items I quickly recognized: 1) They make you wait a long time if you are a walk-in, even if some barbers have no customers in their chairs. 2) When you sit down at a barber station, you notice that the Latino staff (mostly from Dominican Republic) talking loudly to each other in Spanish but rarely talking to their customers in English. Two reasons for that: a. The staff speaks little to no English and has no interest in talking to their customers except what type of service they want. b. The staff talks loudly to each other because they are mocking & making fun of the customers most of the time in Spanish, as if it is their own private language, only they understand (i.e. Not realizing it is one of the top 3 languages spoken in the world). They swear, they use very offensive, racist words & phrases and they make crude gestures to each other, all for their daily entertainment. You don't believe me? Make an appointment and bring in your cell phone with a translation app on it or bring in a Spanish fluent friend. Prepare to be surprised at the translated conversation of the staff. 3) The staff really doesn't cut hair that well, despite all the hair accessories & tools at their fingertips. I am not sure if some were ever trained. 4) The price you are billed for a haircut doesn't match what is posted online. The online price is years old, and the price you actually pay in person is significantly higher. 5) There are supposedly 339 Google reviews for Chanel Barbershop, but you can only read one positive review. There are supposedly 1283 Brooksy reviews which are all 5 stars. There are 11 reviews on Yelp for Chanel Barbershop with only two negative reviews (one being this review). It is really too bad frequent patrons of Chanel don't realize how little they get for the high prices they pay. Also how the staff truly despises their customers rather than being grateful for their weekly schedules packed with appointments.

I was greeted by a very friendly young lady who told me the barbers weren't there yet but one was on the way. While waiting I noticed the shop was clean and orderly with several signs that said "no profanity". He arrived within 5 minutes and I was in Rashaad's (not sure about the spelling) chair about 5 minutes after that. The young lady had told me just before he walked in that he was detail oriented and good. UNDERSTATEMENT! I have been growing a beard for just under a year and been to several barbers throughout Atlanta and thought I had found a good one. Rashaad took it to the next level. It was clean, sharp, and I actually gasped when I looked in the mirror (GASPED!). Now I would have given Celebrity Cutzz 5 stars but the place opens at 8 am and when I got there at 10:15 am no one was on duty. Also, several customers came in looking for specific barbers that weren't there and the young lady didn't know when they would be there and told the customers to call them (I shouldn't have to track you down to get a cut). If you have set hours you need to be there or be by appointment only. So here is the breakdown: Celebrity Cutzz gets 3 stars and Rashaad gets 5 stars so that averages to 4 stars.

Beamer was very patient with him as he was indecisive about what he wanted. He showed my son numerous haircuts. He talked my son into letting him do his thing. My son agreed but was skeptical. I guess the point of the story is that he was really cool to my son. He has a haircut that he really likes and wants to go back to him for his next cut. Job well done!

Signed in, was barely greeted by another lady barber who was putting curls into another barber's hair. 10 minutes go by, and Adriane is still working away on another customer. I asked the ladies who were curling if the lady who was still working on the other customer "was Adriane" (I knew she was, but just trying to start some dialogue regarding my late appointment). One of them, quite dismissively, answered "Yeah, do you have an appointment?" I told her that I do and that it was for 11:15am. This lady responded in a tone that I was interrupting the curling session by even asking "She's still busy, she'll be with you soon." No apologies for Adriane running late, calling the issue to Adriane's attention or anything. Adriane then rang her customer up, proceeded to the back of the store and then starting sweeping her area. No acknowledgment of me, the missed appointment or anything else (by any of these barbers, including Adriane). At 11:35a, I got up and walked over to Adriane, who was sweeping, and explained to her that it was 11:35a, I had an appointment at 11:15a, but that I was leaving because of the lateness of appointment, poor service, no acknowledgement of me or my time. Adriane did apologize, dropped her head (I got the feeling this is a recurring theme here) and said, "Well, I am ready for you now." Thanks, but no thanks. At this point, I decided to take my business elsewhere because for $60 haircut + gratuity, I expect not only a good haircut, but also prompt and friendly customer service. When you are running late, which sometimes happens, be sure to kindly acknowledge your waiting customers. When you lack situational awareness, you send the message that you don't care or don't need my business (maybe both). I won't be back to this location of The Grand Barber.
