Signed in, was barely greeted by another lady barber who was putting curls into another barber's hair. 10 minutes go by, and Adriane is still working away on another customer. I asked the ladies who were curling if the lady who was still working on the other customer "was Adriane" (I knew she was, but just trying to start some dialogue regarding my late appointment). One of them, quite dismissively, answered "Yeah, do you have an appointment?" I told her that I do and that it was for 11:15am. This lady responded in a tone that I was interrupting the curling session by even asking "She's still busy, she'll be with you soon." No apologies for Adriane running late, calling the issue to Adriane's attention or anything. Adriane then rang her customer up, proceeded to the back of the store and then starting sweeping her area. No acknowledgment of me, the missed appointment or anything else (by any of these barbers, including Adriane). At 11:35a, I got up and walked over to Adriane, who was sweeping, and explained to her that it was 11:35a, I had an appointment at 11:15a, but that I was leaving because of the lateness of appointment, poor service, no acknowledgement of me or my time. Adriane did apologize, dropped her head (I got the feeling this is a recurring theme here) and said, "Well, I am ready for you now." Thanks, but no thanks. At this point, I decided to take my business elsewhere because for $60 haircut + gratuity, I expect not only a good haircut, but also prompt and friendly customer service. When you are running late, which sometimes happens, be sure to kindly acknowledge your waiting customers. When you lack situational awareness, you send the message that you don't care or don't need my business (maybe both). I won't be back to this location of The Grand Barber.

Less cluttered, better themed and seems cleaner. They are located at the corner of Baker Road and Highway 34 in a small plaza that features several local businesses. Parking is enough considering the size of the plaza. I have been bringing my Dad to The Barber Shop for a few years now and while the purpose of the trips are always for his cut, I sometimes take a seat and get the ole ears lowered as well. Haircuts have always been decent, no major issues. A few touch-ups needed, but nothing major. Service is always friendly and helpful. Overall, really like the vibe of the updated space. Dad is happy, which means I am happy...and when in need, I wouldn't mind getting another cut!

She learned how to do a flat top haircut from the best, Mr. Vern. She is known for her skill with a traditional flat top, and this is a dying art. She has quite a large following and her reputation and referrals continue to grow her business. The shop is charming and is filled with barber shop nostalgia. They don't take reservations. If there are others waiting when you get there, then you'll just have to sit and wait your turn. I usually call her on her cell to check to see if she's busy before I head to her shop. But if your needing a great haircut she's definitely worth the wait. I was there this morning to get my bi-weekly flat top haircut, and there was one person in her chair getting a haircut and no one else waiting. I was offered a cup of fresh coffee and a muffin while I waited. Southern hospitality at its best. She has one other full time barber and also she is training her son in her footsteps to keep the old style barber shop traditions alive and well into the next generation. While waiting, there was great banter and conversation going on with everyone, and it felt more like a family get together than waiting for a haircut. I gave the barber discretion and asked him to cut it any way he liked. My uncle owned a shop for more than 50 years and when he was allowed to be creative with a customer it was usually his best work. It all grows back and I am up for creativity.
