Essentially Frutti di Mare da Nitto is a seafood market that also cooks for you if you want them to. This is essentially the tourist dream. I won't have known to come here if it wasn't for my Airbnb host, but I am so glad that I found it. Located one block from the beach, this shop is easily missed. In fact, I missed it twice because it essentially looks like seafood market. Who knew they would cook the fresh seafood for you?!? Most of the people that come here are expecting to purchase fresh seafood for home but during lunch time, some folding standing tables are set on the crowded sidewalk for people to eat at. Essentially, you can go in the store, point at the things you want them to cook for you, and they will prepare it and bring it out to you. Ugh, so amazing. This place is the perfect place for a foodie, seafood addict, basically anyone. With that said, they are not a restaurant. So if they run out of fresh seafood, they are out. When I was there, I had the fresh octopus salad, swordfish skewer, oysters, and these delicious small fishes marinated in chilly and olive oil. I wish my friend and I could eat more, but we couldn't. He use to live down the street from here so he has been a regular customer for decades. The service was very freindly and it's a tiny open store with no door! If you want fresh fish that is sliced and diced come here. We ordered 2 kilos of shrimp and it in less than 10 minutes they had deshelled and deviened it right in front of us. We also picked out some calamari and they sliced it up for us to take home and make fried calamari. MMM just thinking of our Sicilian dishes we made that day makes me hungry. My son wanted fish so he picked out a fish to take home too. We made risotto and added shrimp, parsley, garlic and homemade pomodoro sauce to top it off. Our fish was wrapped in foil with olive oil an salt and baked. Fried calamari were prepared in a light batter and fried...yummy treat to eat during lent! Bustling market with so many unusual fish and all sorts of displays. Shark, Swordfish, octopus, sea urchin, clams, shrimp, and too many fish to name. Kids enjoyed the displays but could hardly handle the smelly fishiness-honestly I think the Asian market in Vegas smells fishier-at least this was an open air market. If you buy the fish here, you are the butcher-so we came here just for pure enjoyment. We did buy some fresh parsley since we would be cooking some seafood (but we bought our fish elsewhere). Lots of fruit and veggie stands too. Open daily until 4 p.m. behind the Piazza Duomo.

We miss it! This is…read moreeasily one of the best places we've been on this summers Road Trip in Italy. We stumled upon it more by accident. We planned to meet our Airb'n'B hosts here. We stayed in nearby Nicotera and didn't even know that there's a beautiful beach nearby. We ended up coming here every day - four in a row. Here's some reasons: Beach is nice, clean and quiet (even in high season). Seems still to be a secret or people might not travel that far south. Then there's the hosts of this Beach Bar. Friendly, helpful and going further than the extra mile for their customers (more of that later). Beach chairs and umbrellas cost as little as 8 Euros (two chairs, one umbrella)...for the whole day! And our dog was even allowed on the beach. And ultimately...the food. We really didn't excpect anything from it. And turned out to be wonderful fresh, daily changing fish and seafood. Perfectly cooked by the host/owner. Some of the best meals on this trip. And we've had many. At first sight the menu seems short and not very special (Spaghetti Ragu and Carbonara for example). It's because the best meals only come by request. Just ask what they got today! Can be cozze (mussels), Calamari, fish cakes, vongole etc. And it's all NOT on the menu. Luckily we've seen other locals eating it. Portions are big and quality is high. The anchovie fish cakes were delightful, fresh and savory. Vongole and Cozze fresh as well....huge plates of fantastic seafood. Few ingredients, but perfectly cooked. Calamari were fresh as well, crispy and tender! Every day we also got served some antipasti...and every day the portions got bigger and the bill got smaller! Salumi (different meat cuts) were a great choice as well. Dried and in oil preserved tomatoes, eggplants and other veggies. A realy feast. Fried potatoes with Calabrian Chillis....awesome! Drink some "Dreher" beer with it.....perfect match. Together with the chairs and umbrellas we never paid more than 40 Euros. For everything....rent, food and 6x beers! And like I said, every day we got more food for less money. They didn't have to do that...they knew we're not locals, just some tourists that might not come back for quite a while. But they did. And had some good chats with us. We really felt so welcome, almost felt like being at home with family. Great people, great food....a great experience. One of the places this year that really touched us and we miss a lot.
