We had ducked in to pick a few pastries from the shining cold-case, and saw that there we tables open, so we said..."Wanna...?" We were so impressed with the food, the savory waffle, the steak tartar, the cheesecake and pastries. The atmosphere and loving family service made us feel like we were locals who had stopped into our regular place. We finished with a rich cup of coffee and Ferretti's famous Biscotti. Those biscotti are sooooo delicious that we had to buy a couple of containers of them for the road.... they traveled with us throughout Italy and we hoarded them for morning coffee each day. Our waiters were the sons of the owners, and they were so charming. They shared with us some of their own travels, especially in the U.S. (our home). Our advice; roam the farmers' market in the town square and, right there, stop into Pasticceria Ferretti. They even have a nice sidewalk seating area in that pedestrian only area. P.S. The town has a great parking garage with a famous modern-art foot bridge.... memorable, photogenic!

Typical Tuscan pizza has a very thin crust, which isn't for everyone including myself. The pizza at Il Rosmarino is some of the best I have had at a pizzeria in these hills. We also ordered a ravioli dish with an eggplant filling (can't find it on the online menu) and a caprese, both were scrumptious. The spacious patio is very comfortable. We will definitely return.

For our second course we had baccala alla livornese which I really enjoyed. Also some fried chicken and bell peppers, and a beautiful tagliata with roasted potatoes. Perfectly tender and the potatoes - the right amount of crispy. With our meal we enjoyed the local red wine. I really found it easy to drink and probably had at least a half a bottle myself. Dessert was also a sample plate. My favorite was the lemon custard pie which was the perfect amount of tangy sweetness. The service was next level: from the giant glass of digestif presented to my father-in-law for his birthday to the round of complimentary desserts and limoncello, the service was full of joy! As we left, our server was sharing some personal tales with us. He really bonded with my father-in-law and ended up gifting him a bottle of wine that had familial significance/connection between us! Don't let the modest outside and the cats running around the plaza in front of the monastery dissuade you from entering. The restaurant is part of/next to a monastery and the monks run the place. And those fellows know how to cook. While the crostini were not super interesting (some with tomato, the rest with walnut pesto), the caprese was as fresh and delicious as I've had. We ordered three different pastas as first courses: spaghetti pomodoro, pici cacio e pepe, and Caramelle at Tartufo. The latter (photo included) was the tastiest pasta of my life. The pici was one of the best of the trip. The pomodoro -- such a simple dish, so not easy to exceed expectations -- still did. Our secondi, bisteca (steak) was cooked a juicy, delicious rare/medium rare (advise if you would like it otherwise) and we could have eaten a second. Back then, I ordered the Osso Buco, Lasagna, and Tiramisu--and I still remembered how incredible everything was. So, of course, when I returned nearly 10 years later, I had to order the same meals... and yes, I said meals! Fabrizio, the same server who took care of me in 2017, asked, "Are you sure you want two dinners?" I told him, "Yes! I want to try them both." Fast-forward to 2026: I walked back in two days ago, reminded Fabrizio of our conversation, and told him I was ordering both again. He immediately started laughing. Some things never change! My boyfriend ordered the pappardelle and instantly fell in love with it. We also shared a delicious cheese and meat platter and, of course, finished with Tiramisu. Nearly 10 years later, Pensavo Peggio still holds a special place in my heart. Highly recommend this cute little spot!
