I called and long story short, John understood my situation and squeezed me in. I was pleasantly surprised, not only the understanding, but by the quality of work. They made the most out of a bad situation left by the previous "electrician" and kept the price very reasonable. John Smith knows what he's doing. Smith come in to have a cable wire installed, and he 1) charged me $15 more…read morethan the top end he mentioned on the phone ($215 total), and 2) made several holes in my basement ceiling which he just covered with blanks, 3) ruined my baseboard with his drill, 4) pulled the cable wire through the living room floor and then back into the wall above the baseboard (leaving the wire exposed), 5) didn't show me how the wire was exposed until I asked why he was drilling through the floor, and then 6) tried to tell me that's normal for the wire to be exposed and no one would see it because it was behind a shelf. All the while trying to sell me on doing other jobs around my house. He talks very sweetly on the phone but did such a terrible job. Would never recommend and will never call again. I don't know how this man has such high reviews on Facebook and Thumbtack.

A Wilkins Electric (family business) for my 1,905 sq ft small business kitchen build out in Ross…read moreTownship, bid $19,500, hit with final additional charges of $8,697.42 grand total $28,197.42. Only Jon (owners son) was onsite 99.8% of the time, no one else. I was told, not asked and no discussion about final charges. I was told if the final charges were not paid, he would file whatever so I couldn't get an occupancy permit to open and/or file a lien against the property owner. Never discussed with me, no prior notice, I made a few changes to electrical, I was present every single day, well aware of what was being complete. I was present for every inspection, and walked along with each inspector, I even had certified architectural drawings that everyone received well in advance. A Wilkins electric worked past 4 pm once maybe 2 times, started at 9, 9:30 am, no weekends and no pressure from me. Most of the additional charges were for the demo work that was clearly printed in the drawings, simply removing wiring no longer in use, because new runs were going in place. 1, one item was flagged tethering 20 lights to the ceiling, that prior electrician did not do, that was it, 8,697.42 in additional charges. A Wilkins Electric had 1 electrician onsite, 99.8% of the time. Which meant this same electrician (owners son) had to go up and down the ladder many, many, many times as there was no one on the other end to feed wiring over to to tether the light fixtures. Ceilings are maybe 9-10 ft high. The electrical shunt trip breaker that was required being installed, took 2 hrs to install, i was there and googles for around $800.00. There were no permit issues, I did the bldg permits and nearly all of the other permits myself, no problems at all. Additionally as the small business owner there were ceiling penetrations, quite wide, left open, never sealed off, never closed up as the certified drawings specifically mentioned they were to be closed up, along with a sizeable garbage bag of electrical end pieces for me to dispose of. Also electrical ductwork for the kitchen exhaust fan never sealed, rain water leaked into my commercial kitchen space and I had to pay roofers $175 to correct, which I have proof of to post if I get questioned or something legal comes my way. Problem with 220 receptacle, emailed A Wilkins Electric in February 2025, never a word back, again proof I can post if needed. Didn't matter I tipped the only onsite electrician $200 as a small thank you. Note to myself to never do again, under any circumstances until all work and all billing is completed, and contractor fully cleans up. I was also left with a 16 lb bag of electrical remnants I had to find a way to dispose of.

A few weeks ago, my husband and I found ourselves in a panic when a near-miss electrical fire…read morefollowed by a visit from the local fire department pushed us to have our electrical connections in our home re-evaluated. I posted to the local community Facebook page for a reliable electrician and Bill Stover of PGH Electrical Services was recommended numerous times. Bill is the independent owner and operator for PGH Electrical Services and is licensed and insured. I reviewed his Facebook page and found several positive reviews. I messaged Bill around 10pm the night of the fire department visit and he responded right away. He visited my house the very next day (a Saturday) at 9AM and looked through our house and evaluated the situation. He identified the problem of the overloaded circuit quickly and proposed a solution that day. We had one other electrician visit the house for the same proposed work, and he didn't suggest the options that Bill provided and was going to do more damage to our ceilings and walls than what Bill proposed. Bill's pricing was competitive from speaking to others who had recent electrical work completed. We knew we wanted Bill's expertise for the job! The only criticism I have for the business is that it can be hard to contact Bill regarding proposed work and getting some preliminary questions answered. I attribute that to his busy schedule and him always being on the go, though. Bill arrived on time on the scheduled start date for the work. He was careful to remove his shoes while walking through my home and wore boot covers over his shoes when necessary. He was friendly, professional, diligent, and very hard-working. He took his time to make sure he thoroughly understood the various circuit connections for each breaker before starting any new work. He thought outside the box when working to minimize any new holes that needed cut into the walls or the ceiling. He also replaced the drywall sections that were cut and patched the holes when he was done. He brought a vacuum and would sweep up any dust or debris that was created from running new wires in the walls. I appreciated that greatly since I have a small dog that I didn't want to step in the debris and I have asthma. Plus, no one wants dust and debris tracked through their home! Bill exceeded expectations when he installed a new light fixture where a plain lightbulb was located in place of the light that the firefighters had to pull out of the ceiling. He also checked out my garage and identified a faulty light switch that was sure to cause more issues down the road. He replaced both during his work and neither were part of the original scope of services. He also did it without additional charge. Bill completed his work as anticipated within the two-day timeframe, too. I would highly recommend Bill and PGH Electrical Services for all your household electrical needs. His quality of work exceeded expectations and I'm so happy that we chose him to fix our electrical problems during what was a very scary time for my husband and I.
