My hours are flexible enough that I tend to go when it's not too busy in the middle of the day, so that may be part of it. Regardless of this, the gym is large and surprisingly quiet with the music playing just at the right level (not loud enough that I can hear it over my own music, but loud enough that I can enjoy it in the off chance I forget my headphones). The facility is also super clean, which is not something you find in every gym. The employees are very friendly - I've always been greeted when I arrive, and someone usually calls out "have a great day" as I'm walking towards the door to leave. There are so many machines and machine types to choose from if you're there for cardio. The equipment appears to be well-maintained, but as with all Planet Fitness locations, there are a limited number of programs on each machine. So, if you're ok with those limited options or are open to creating your own unique workout manually, then these machines are great. A little frustrating, but easily adaptable! There are also plenty of weight machines and free weights. I've never had to wait long to use a machine, even if that means adjusting my routine.

I decided to do the free trial here because this location is convenient. I read a couple reviews before going and it didn't look too promising. It is a small gym and not super crowded, so that is a plus in my book, as you will probably never have to wait for a machine, but it didn't really take me that long to figure out why. I went to their website before going inside and registered for a free trial, but when I went inside the lady said the website is wrong (strange because it is a chain gym) and the trial is $10. In addition to that, for the time period that I wanted, I could get a premium membership (fitness consultation, body scan, and access to hydromassage beds, tanning beds, and light therapy room) at club 4 fitness for 1/3 of the price. They were having a deal at the time that made the premium membership cheaper for the first month. Club 4 also has an actual 3-day free trial, which I used for all 3 days. The gym itself isn't that bad, I was able to find everything that I needed for my workout (was doing push that day, so maybe not for pull/legs), and most of the equipment is in good shape. It is also worth noting that they have a complimentary fitness test, but you have to go elsewhere for it (and might be able to get the same thing by going to a different Anytime Fitness) In the end, I decided on club 4 even though it is 10 minutes further. I have been going there for a month and have also hired one of their personal trainers.

I had to find old key fobs from other locations and call up my previous locations because the female owner couldn't figure out how to set up my membership. Then, she tried to tell me that I had to call my insurance. For what?! I have had Active & Fit for about 4 years and have never had a problem signing up at gyms. As a matter of fact, I have signed up for 3 other Anytime Fitness locations including Port Allen in the past with no issue. After about an hour of her trying to figure it out, she allegedly set up my membership. Fast forward about 1.5 weeks and I try to access the gym. My fob does not work and no one lets me inside the gym. Frustrated yet grateful, I drive to PF down the road. A few days later I go back to Anytime and my fob still does not work. This time a male is working. He calls the woman and she states again that I need to call my insurance. I ask what am I calling them for? I pay the monthly Active & Fit fee, that's all they are concerned about. At this point I give up. I went ahead and got a membership at Centurion so that I can access a gym when PF is closed. It's interesting how I was able to successfully and easily get memberships at two other gyms. If she doesn't know how to process Active & Fit memberships then she needs to learn how or stop participating in the program. She wasted so much of my time with her incompetence.

During our cross country road trip in the summer of 2022, we traveled with the truck and trailer…read morefrom Los Angeles to Key West and back. My wife booked a few nights in Tickfaw state park, sight unseen, to be more or less in the vicinity of New Orleans, a plantation tour, and a swamp boat tour that we had booked months in advance. As it turned out, we actually enjoyed this state park stay more than our visit to New Orleans! The state park entrance is actually at the back of a neighborhood of sorts, on a narrow two-lane road that cuts away from the highway at a weird angle. Once inside the park proper, visitors are treated to beautiful swamps, complete with cypress trees, Spanish moss, and all the critters you would expect to find here. The campground we enjoyed had full hook ups, a small wooden deck, and a long back-in pad for our trailer. There was also a resident raccoon who kept us honest about locking things up at night, and securing coolers and food. Tickfaw state park features long boardwalks with railings, that afford visitors beautiful hikes in different parts of the park through different kinds of trees and plants. Unfortunately, many of these were still damaged in the summer of 2022 from the previous year's Hurricane Ida that blew through southern Louisiana and surrounding areas. The only trail that was not affected by this was the one without a boardwalk, so we enjoyed a hike through beautiful pines that went down to the river. Despite most of the trails being closed and damaged, we still enjoyed ourselves here, and had a good time. In the evening, I enjoyed casting topwater lures in on the cypress knees and trees, and caught & released several big bowfin... A fish that is sort of a cross between a catfish a bass, and a pit bull I suppose. I'm not sure when we will be back through this part of the world, but Tickfaw State Park is definitely a place that I would stay again: off the beaten path but close enough to where you want to be, peaceful and quiet, and the kind of southern serene that helps a SoCal guy like me to slow down and enjoy life a little bit.

There are several different food pavilions, restrooms, locker areas, and areas to sit. There is also a fun water slide, giving homage to the infamous alligators with albinism who have taken residence at the Zoo and Aquarium over the years. This would be a fun place to relax with your kids during one of the summer sessions. My friends and I attending the adults-only Sip and Dip event held on Fridays during the summer. It was very affordable for a private cabana for six with early access. Be sure to reserve your tickets for the event early online as it does sell out. It got a bit crowded toward the end, and they did run out of regular floats, though some preferred the thick floating noodles offered. Every Friday night has a different theme, so there is something for everyone. They bring in Dickie Brennans for the bar, and they were wonderful with decently priced drinks and quality alcohol. They were also creating with the mocktails. I certainly will return for another Sip and Dip either later this summer, if able, or next year. Absolutely worth it!

My first time at Cool Zoo was for the adults-only Friday night party, Sip & Dip. This event is 2X a month during the heart of the summer and features theme nights with DJs and of course since this is NOLA, people get creative and might dress in theme. I went on 80s night and the music was so fun and I loved people wearing neon, 80s tshirts and even hair and make-up. Refreshments stands are spread out among the park and they do a themed cocktail and sell beer, hard seltzer and soft drinks, along with typical concession food and popcorn. I had the cocktail of the evening, the Purple Rain and while it was eye-catching, it was so sweet and possibly strong, too, that I couldn't drink more than 1/4 of it (and it's a huge cup, fairly priced at only $13). The grounds are beautiful with fountains and an area with slides and water features that you'd normally see children dominating (with perfectly good reason) but it was actually fun to see adults having at it on the slides and at the water sprayers. Then there's the lazy river, which is a decent size, warm and full of jets to move you along. We ended up not using flotation devices and swam/walked through it. My main issue and why this event isn't personally my cup of tea: it's too crowded. It sells out but I think they sell far too many tickets. We arrived 15 min after it started and there wasn't a lounge chair nor seat at a table to be found. Cabanas are so cheap here but they sell out immediately ahead of the event, likely the day that tickets go on sale. The only way I'd return was if I could get a cabana. The lazy river is completely packed 45 minutes into the event. We were lucky enough to get a locker (which also sell out so imagine being there without a space to put your things??? how is that fun?). People are in general nice enough to hand over the inner tubes but good luck ever getting a place to sit if you didn't line up in advance of start time. I keep going back between 3 and 4 stars for the main reason that everyone who works here is SO nice. The staff really made everything bearable for me, as they were so welcoming and helpful to point out where the lockers were (there's another set behind the set you initially encounter). I just think this isn't the event for anyone who avoids crowds of people. And the crowd that was there that night were totally fine (at least early in the evening). They just sell too many tickets for me to enjoy it.

Not only did we kayak but we also rode bikes and played around like big kids. It was an awesome experience. The staff on hand was helpful resourceful and fun. They coached us through boarding, un boarding, and maneuvering our kayak. They definitely made us feel welcomed and want to come back.

When we arrived on Sunday, there were a lot of people, but parking was still plentiful. It's closer to Central and north Baton Rouge area. It's also across the street from the famed church Life Tabernacle Church. I can only see myself going back there during the fall and spring months... summertime there will not be happen.

It was a nice and peaceful way to relax. It's a good spot to bring your dogs as well! Be careful though because we have stumbled upon snakes a few times on the trail path to the beach!

My favorite trio: sauna, steam room, and hot tub. I love to do all 3 and just soak up the relaxation. There's also showers, lockers, and other standard locker room stuff. The classes! Centergy/Flow has always been my #1 go to favorite class. Taryn is a fabulous instructor, and the music always motivates me and has me singing. GymFit has added so many fun, new classess I can hardly keep up. Salsa, AcroYoga, specialty dance classes, etc. Definitely something for everyone! I typically go at night, and the check-in ladies have always been friendly and helpful. I've used the nursery, and my daughters have always enjoyed it. In the recent months, they re-did a lot of the interior and so many improvements were made. It's now a multi-functional gym that offers many of their original classes + have added the cirque, acrobatics, bootcamp and ninja warrior aspect of it. It's a pretty incredible place. They hosted kids summer camp over the summer (during COVID), while enforcing mask wearing, etc. My family & I have been part of GymFit, since their beginnings at their old location and that was already super fun, so now I am excited about 10x more fun with probably 10x more of the space they now have. The owners are always thinking of awesome ways to make the gym a better experience for all that walk through their doors. Their performance group, Bayou Cirque, puts on electrifying performances in their outdoor area from time to time. Their outdoor area has 2 pools (larger swimming pool and a kids wading pool) + a sand volleyball court. The inside also has large lap pool. It truly is a neat place! If you want to check it out, you must! You'll also see the GymFit team at various outdoor events around the city with their kids ninja warrior course. I took 20 classes in 30 days, and tried all except the hot yoga. PROS: -Beautiful studio! The space is gorgeous and clean with lots of natural light in the pilates area and fun neon lights in the HIIT class area. -Great selection of classes and times to choose from. -The classes themselves are wonderful- HIIT ranged in difficulty and the pilates was always fantastic. -Low sugar plant-based smoothie menu was awesome. CONS: -Customer service- This was my biggest problem with the studio. I was rarely greeted or acknowledged when entering the studio or when leaving. Entire classes went by when I was not acknowledged at all. It was a very cold/unwelcoming environment. I felt incredibly out of place and always left feeling kind of...sad. There was just one instructor who actually learned my name and was friendly to me, and I took multiple classes from her (she was great). After I joined the studio I never got a "tour" / nobody showed me around or told me what to expect from different classes. I was left on my own to figure it out. I have tried lots of studios around town so felt mostly comfortable in the classes but if I was new to this type of exercise, I would be totally lost. -Price- I paid a little over $200 for a new member special 30 day deal. That gets you one (just one!) class per day. There were times I wanted to do a HIIT class in the morning and check out a hot yoga class in the evening but I was not willing to pay an additional $25 to double up. There *are* 75 minute HIIT/Pilates combo classes, though. -No private bathroom area/locker room. The bathroom area is shared with whatever business is down the hall. It's a typical office building bathroom situation- no hooks on bathroom stall doors or surface to put down a bag. Not convenient for the days I had to change after work. No bowls of hair ties/tampons or dry shampoo like every other studio I've been to has. Overall, with a more welcoming vibe and the option to double up on classes, I'd come back. Otherwise there are plenty of other studios around town that offer the same workouts with a better atmosphere, and for a better price.

I love that the people who go to classes are all ages, shapes, and sizes. I have seen an incredible increase in my balance, strength, flexibility, and overall joint pain. The instructors give clear instructions and are at your reformer ready to give you advice on an exercise you might have questions about.

People of all ages come here because of the different programming he has to offer, at no extra charge, plus know body is judging anyone. Been here for over 9 yrs now. I've done CrossFit for 7 years. When I showed (as an unannounced drop-in-I do admit). I waited a until the 5am was over so I didn't interrupt and the coach said he would speak to me after class. He told me they are not doing drop-ins. I offered to purchase a week. They told me NO. Another girl that was finishing her WOD piped in that she was a co-owner and they don't want drop-ins. "We just aren't doing them" I waited for my sister to arrive for the 6am class (she is a member) and told her sorry I can't work out with you. She was baffled. I emailed the owner on the website. He told me many CrossFits affiliates are not doing drop-ins "because it disrupts the classes". What I took from this is... I'm not welcome as an outsider traveling home to visit. I looked for the next closest box and found Geaux CrossFit. Geaux CrossFit was welcoming, gave me a free first class. And then I purchased a $150 punch card for sessions in the future. CrossFit BR does not want your money, nor do they want to be nice to people traveling. Save you money and go elsewhere. Also, they are a garage box. Geaux CrossFit is inside air conditioned with top notch equipment and a open gym area to work out in if you want to do you own thing. My advice. Dont Geaux near CrossFit BR. GEAUX CROSSFIT is much more welcoming.

This disconnect between stated values, pricing, and the actual member experience raises serious concerns about accountability, stewardship, and alignment with the organization's mission. They need to staff the place and hire or train managers.
