Anytime Fitness is a chain; like Chipotle, Starbucks, or HyVee. But the consistency, standards and accessibility are the reasons why we belong and fork over a portion of our monthly income in an attempt to stay healthy, happy and all around maintain a generally active lifestyle. Could we run outside? Sure! But why risk getting hit with the Rochester City Trolly while lunging through a downtown crosswalk?
One of the benefits of Anytime is the access to their network of gyms across the country-- which is what brought us here during a vacation. Who vacations in Rochester, you ask? Well... people that try to escape 115* heat in AZ-- that's who.
Now that we've established some baselines, this Anytime location is in the top 5 that I've visited. It's clean, organized and the equipment is in great shape. Plus, the people were pretty cool too.
I'm pretty picky about gyms, and I'm even pickier about gyms that lack process-- this place satisfied on both requirements.
We spent 3 days working out on our own and did a "group" training session with Heidi, which consisted of myself, wife and another guy-- Andy-- he was cool.
I'm not usually a big group training fan, primarily because somehow I always end up doing some type of embarrassing face plant, but Heidi did a great job of making me feel comfortable-- and then kinda not pretending to have not seen my face plant on a plastic box thing. Totally worth trying a group session, and the varying fitness levels of the participants wasn't a challenge at all.
Over our various visits, we got to know the owner, Matt, and despite our relatively brief interactions (like 2 minutes max), I feel like we're bro's now. He could totally crash on an air mattress in my living room in Phoenix, if the need ever arose. My point here, really, is that Matt was present all 3 days/times that we went. I mean, when was the last time you saw the CEO of Associated Bank when you were in there? But we saw the CEO of this Anytime 3 times! *star struck*
These folks are doing a good job. So, if you're a local-- join! If you're a local who travels-- def join! If you're a local of another locale-- get a guest pass and try it out-- you'll probably end up with the app on your phone, and a new membership card in hand. You won't be disappointed. read more
