This is a small library located in the other Richmond area. It has two major rooms for children and adults, and a mini office area for printers and scanner right outside the restrooms in the lobby. I think it's a chill place to spend time if you happen to be in the neighborhood although not worth particular visit. read more

Over 60% of this library is dedicated to teens and kids. Kids and teens all have libraries at school, and compromise less than 7% of the SF population. There is never any seating in the adult section. It's the same at every SFPL. The entire system is just for kids, and they need to be explicit about that. Unlike New York Public Library or Chicago or any other public library system, they just don't care about adult patrons. They need to refund money paid by taxpayers to adult patrons so they can join other library systems, because they are discriminated against here and at every SFPL. read more

I love all the SFPL branches, but as this one's my local branch, it holds a special place in my heart. I recently lost access to my printer, and needed to print a mailing label. I was ready to shell out a quarter for a printout (as would have been the case at a local FedEx), but good golly, SFPL gives you something like 25 B&W printouts per day. And then have a scanner on site, too. Ask the librarians for help; they are very friendly! read more

Small, clean, and quiet library in a peaceful neighborhood not far from Ocean Beach. 8 internet computers usually aren't busy. You can print up to 20 pages/day on the b&w copier for free with your library card. Interlibrary loan system is quite good. Teen books have a section near comfortable seats. Me & my friend recently were in the Outer Richmond neighborhood where we decided to stop in at the Anza Branch Library as we are both big bibliophiles. As it turned out this was the 7 year anniversary of this current location of the Anza Branch Library so it was quite a festive atmosphere w/ live music, sing-a-longs where a group was singing "we all live in a yellow submarine" by the Beatles that we couldn't help but to join in the fun of singing along as well, and refreshments during the Open House that the library were having. Me & my friend enjoyed watermelon, chips, salsa, & aloe vera juice. The Anza Branch Library is a bit far if you are headed from SoMa like we did as the only public transport out this way is the 38 bus which happens to be the busiest bus in the city since the MUNI or BART trains don't run out this way the 38 bus is the way to go as it might be more crowded. At check out one of the librarians suggested I take part in the Sumer Stride 2018. You keep track of how your reading & get stickers for every hour reading. 20 stickers wins a prize & this is open to all ages. The Anza Branch Library has some interesting programs on offer as for the month of June 2018 they have a knitting & crocheting circle for teens & adults, computer help for adults & seniors, & a tai chi class for two Mondays in June. The library is located on 37th between Anza & Geary. We reached the library by walking up a fairly steep hill to reach the library. While this library is a bit far out if this is your local branch & you live in the Outer Richmond this library is a boon. I found the selections of books, CDs, & DVDs to be spot on. I'm a big fan of libraries & they are a tremendous resource on many levels. read more

I'm a sucker for cute little branch libraries, so even though the Anza Branch really only deserves three stars on its merits, It's getting four from me because it's so cute! Well, not only because it's so cute. It's also my go-to library-book dropping-off point in the Richmond District, because if I need to return a library book while I'm in the Richmond District, it's probably because I just finished reading the book at Simple Pleasures, which is remarkably close to the Anza Branch. Now, mind you, I haven't read a book or any other sort of print media at Simple Pleasures since before March 9, 2020--and that's really a shame, that is--but I have been in the Richmond District and needed to return library books since then, and my normal practice for returning books here still stands. I won't elucidate, for legal reasons, but believe you me: I knows me how efficiently and quickly to return a book to the Anza Branch, I does. The book drop makes me feel very secure here because it's right in the wall, rather than being a freestanding metal boxy thingy. I know, I know: The freestanding metal boxy thingies are plenty secure, but there's just something reassuring about returning your book directly into the building rather than into a receptacle outside the building. And did I mention that it feels like some kind of quaint summer cottage in some coastal town in Southern California or in Italy or Greece or Portugal? Not the entire branch; just the book-drop area. It feels like part of some beautiful old drafty villa that may or may not be larger than it looks. The inside is fine. It's small. There are always tykes running around, which is good, because this is a library, and children belong in libraries. Library branches--they're not just for trees anymore! read more

It's a pretty small library, but my experience here was pretty disturbing to make me to never to go back here again. I parked in the non parallel spots nearby the place so that was good. I sat a long table with couple of people there already. Afterwards, the old man & young boy left the table so I had the table to myself until this dude in plaid flannel shirt sat down. He was on his laptop, and from the corner of my eyes, I noticed he was masterbating & he would look at me sometimes. Eww.. soo totally inappropriate, dude! Then an older Asian lady sat on his side of the table but there was a chair between them. I can't believe that she didn't notice it. I felt super uncomfortable, and I was debating if I should go tell the librarian or not. At some point he left his laptop on the table & wandered off to go look at books or went to the bathroom. That's when I grab my stuff & left. I quickly walked to my car, and whenever I was passing by the library, I saw that same exact dude coming out of the library. Ugh.. so disturbing. read more

Immaculate and tip-top shiny and new....was here this afternoon and love the wonderful branch near GG park....had to return a book and this was nearby. So clean, quiet (yeah...imagine that for a descriptor to a lights that should always be, but hardly ever is)....I'm a believer here, and will try to hit this up when in the area. Absolutely clean, spacious restrooms too. Beautiful and new. P.S. Only a Tetris-shape away from Shanghai Dumpling King...yummmmm read more

I have been coming to this library for weeks to study. So far it's been wonderful. The place is small but clean and beautiful. The place is quiet enough to study. Sometimes the staff are on the phone and can't avoid speaking loudly but they don't stay long on the phone. The place does echo when the chairs are dragged & if someone is talking. But so far it hasn't bothered me bec majority of the time it's pretty quiet. The bathroom is a single occupant and most importantly it's clean (SUCH A BIG PLUS)! The staff I've encountered were very accommodating & nice. The only issue I have with the library is that they don't have parking. The area is right beside residents so majority of the parking is occupied by the people who live there. The library is uphill and it's difficult going up with a big bag full of books, water canister and a laptop lol. You'll be lucky to have parking at the other end where you can just walk down but even parking is hard to come by around there. But I still try to find parking bec it's close to my son's day care and so far Ive been lucky a few times to get parking close by. One of the nice libraries around the outer richmond/sunset area. read more

As a self-proclaimed bookworm ever since I picked up The Boxcar Children from my second grade teacher's bookshelf, the Anza library does the job. I can usually find 10 or 20 or more books at any one time to interest me. Even better is that Anza usually seems to have that book I've been waiting for on their new shelf usually a couple times each month! The renovations made a big difference! New books, new self-checkout, new bathrooms, ADA accessible... Sadly, with the renovations, they also decided to lump my guilty pleasures/romance novels with the fiction! Horrible! They have a great children's section, at least for girls. However, with the renovations, they no longer have some of the older books that they use to have (sad, a smaller selection of Diana Wynne Jones), but they have a ton of new books for both adults and kids! read more

I still love this branch because it's less hectic and the people are great. However, lately, someone has forgotten to check books back in after I returned them. Twice I got an overdue notice for books I've previously returned. I had to go to the shelves for the books to show the front desk that yup, they had it all along. Super annoying. Whoever is handling the return book should do their job! read more

Still giving it 2 stars. The city invested million$ to beautify the gardens in the rear, but it is off limits to everyone except staff, except for a couple of hours when there are programs in the lower level. They explained that the lack of book-stealing security machine is why the public cannot access the rear gardens. read more

Teachers and children librarians.... These are your everyday heroes. Monica, one of the many great children librarians in the city, puts on a dazzling 30 minute storytime for the kids. Her storytimes are filled with song, readings, and child participation. And she does it with such energy and passion. Hey, its great when the adult librarian gets up from the other end of the library to marvel at the theatrics. The Anza Library will eventually get its much needed renovation probably next year. Until then... enjoy their resources. read more

Anza's not grand, but for a neighborhood branch that hasn't yet been renovated, it does the trick. It caters to its patrons well, with lots of Russian and Chinese books, newspapers, and magazines to supplement English collection. The children's section is pretty big and would have kept me plenty busy when I was a kid. One final plus: while the Richmond library is closed for renovation, the Anza is open more hours than it would be otherwise. Hooray! read more

3.5 stars. This branch has very nice staff. It seems a bit smaller than some of the libraries we've been to but it's clean and nicely hosts events like the Bubble Lady which was our first time going. I do feel the librarian should have helped regulated the children who were left at the show by themselves. I felt the Bubble Lady was extremely frustrated with kids not following her rules. read more

This is my local branch and my favorite one. It's got a good selection and a knowledgable and accommodating staff. I actually give them 4.5 stars because its closed on Sundays, and Sundays are my favorite day to go to the library. read more

Love this library! The staff is nice, at least the lady who helped us out was. I like to being my niece's to different libraries, this one was about 10 minutes away from our house and we decided to check it out. I love anime and the have a Great selection of manga as well as children's books! read more

The people that were working here the day I came in were just awful. First came the Asian guy in the children's section, it was empty and my daughter sat on the table to do a small puzzle quietly, when he saw he rushed over and was like "you must get down now NO on the table". My daughter is 2.5 and was not bothering anyone. It was cleary your time to shine and also bossy asian man you can use full sentances when speaking to children as in no sitting on table, your not on clement street now. Next comes the grumpy Russian woman who when my daughter took some books off the shelf raised her voice and shouted "what are you doiing". I told her to calm down I will do your job for you and place the books back on the shelf don't worry. Talk about miserable people will never go there again. This branch is a nice quiet oasis (unless you go on preschool reading circle day and get swept up in the mass of three year olds). They have an adequate supply of "graphic novels" (translation=comic books) which are my son's choice of summertime reading. I usually reserve books online because I think I am too lazy to scan the shelves. But when I get to the library to pick up my "reserved" books, I end up roaming the aisles for a better part of an hour. I can't resist the draw of those shelves.....it is an essential part of the library experience! I guess the best part is that my son has managed to pick up this library habit from me....he now looks for his own books and sometimes plops down to read something, which then takes me another half-hour to pry his butt off the chair to go home...... It is a bit more crowded these days because the Richmond branch is closed for remodeling and the overflow readers come here. Oh, and if you can, walk or bike here because car parking is basically non-existent. read more

I really like the ADA compliant entrance from the north side of the building, anything to avoid those dreadful steps. The space is less open since more bookshelves are in place. The table arrangements don't help with movability either. While it does feel a little modern, I feel that the old library charm is lost. I don't know where things are anymore. The children's room does not feel very kid-friendly and certainly doesn't lure them to check out books or videos like it used to. I haven't seen the children's room librarian ever, maybe it's due to the budget cuts. I still also hate that it is closed on Sundays! I haven't had a chance to check out the restrooms but maybe I will next time. read more

Decent selection of books for a smallish city library perched on a perilously steep hill. Staff are very knowledgeable if maybe a little reserved in humor and affect. Hours leave a little to be desired. I do like that you can reserve books online and they are kept self help on the "reserved" shelf under your name, complete with a self check out option so you can breeze in and out as parking is non-existent in that hood. read more

Love this place for the sake of variety of the library I usually go. Don't know about the choice of books. I'm here to be alone, work on my laptop (free wifi), memorize things, print out stuff (10 cents/copy) and to have a quite atmosphere. They did an awesome job with the renovation, toilets are very clean and a lot of close nice restaurants on Balboa. For my purpose perfect! read more

Nice branch--I haven't visited the public libraries for decades, and recently, coming back again. A lit' hill to hike up, though. I had an appt nearby and had to return some materials so i dropped by and visited the DVD section. Pretty large inventory. Maybe it's average, but to me, it's a large inventory. lol I went to the health books, section, as well. there are communal tables for reading. As it was during school hours, it was quiet. Next time, i may to do some reading. read more

I rather like the Anza. It's a small branch, but I appreciate the lovely old interior. The selection is OK, pretty typical for a neighborhood branch, and they have plenty of DVDs and such. Anza is a great reading and writing space. It stays pretty quiet, and they have a few long and wide tables. It's easy to kill lots of time reading, writing, or surfing, and they have plenty of outlets to keep your laptop juiced. My only complaint is that there have been a few times where the doors were still closed when they should have been open. read more

i agree with greta--libraries are just awesome things. i mean they're free! any book you want--free! i haven't tried checking out the other stuff yet, but their website is pretty amazing: it's let me renew my books for the 2nd time already without having to make the 10-block trek out there--yes, you are allowed keep your books for months on end if you are a slow reader. or if you are just too lazy to go return them. but like greta also mentioned, don't expect to find anything if you're actually LOOKING for it. but it's a great place to go and make a quiet find. read more

ive been going here since i was little and every time i go here the helpers are always nice they don't get in your face but they also are not unfriendly so its always ok and encouraged to approach them and ask them questions. read more
