I wondered into to Fraser Nolan for ideas more than to actually buy anything, as there is no way on Earth I could afford to have my own shutters made. The show room looks fantastic, filled with all manor of shutters. Who knew there were so many designs purposely for helping me see the TV better at midday?! The gentleman there was very helpful and did give me a run down of what they could do for me at a reasonable price (still nowhere near what I could afford but he didn't know that). I left with a lot of info that I can now take to Ikea and pretend I know what I'm talking about!

These are the guys to go to when you're looking for carpets, rugs, tiles, wooden floors, etc…read more They've been doing this for years, and have a small team that can fit the carpets and flooring as well (carpet-fitters are becoming increasingly rare). This is one of those places that relies on returning customers and word-of-mouth, which is why they're one of those local suppliers that have a real focus on customer service (see my Gibson's Butchers and Direct Furniture reviews). For being a small independent retailer, they seem to be able to keep their prices quite reasonable. I was just in to get a mat, but they have carousels of carpet samples as well as different types of wooden flooring on display, and they have another area for floor and wall tiles. The staff were very friendly - down to earth but professional.

Even though the installation was quick the bedroom had things on the floor and they put the carpet down over the top, bad job and unfinished. I called the following day and I was told they would come out asap afternoon time and no one came. Within 2 days this company managed to let me down 4 times, I tried to call but the company closed at 5pm.

We went for a viewing of an apartment right round the corner from the place we were meant to move in to with those Northern Property glipes and this place was in immaculate condition! Every fraction of the place was sparkling. There was a brand new mattress on the bed, sofas etc as advertised. It was massive and £25 cheaper for better quality (see my other review on that). We had our own furniture though but because the guy who owned the place was now living abroad he couldn't take the things away so we put them in the spare bedroom and my partner used it as a man cave lol the only thing was we had a few insignificant faults that we contacted them about and a guy came out to have a look and log them but nothing was ever done about them in the year we were there no matter how many times they came out to look at them. The maintenance manager is a lovely guy and the girl Sinead we were dealing with was brilliant, they're all so friendly you could happily talk to them all day! The only reason why we left was we were expecting our first baby and there wasn't the room for the nursery because of the owners furniture but I would recommend this company to everyone!

They also offer trade customers some discount on purchases. There is always plenty of help around to assist with the lifting etc. it is also possible to have goods delivered. The centre also has a lovely showroom showing finished rooms using the goods provided by them. The staff in the showroom are also very friendly and always happy to help.

Having had a run of bad luck with an electrical shower that kept blowing fuses I was told to pop…read moredown here as I could 'pick the brains' of the owner and maybe get to the root of the mystery. The shop is quite old school; every nook is crammed with various electrical goods and parts. As they had quite a large selection of electrical showers I was able to point out my model and chatted to the man behind the counter as to why mine was blowing fuses at least once a week. He surmised that we were running the shower at too high a level for the cabling to ably carry the load and that was causing the fuses to blow. After buying a new fuse mount and a few more spares I had a quick browse through the selection of kitchen appliances before heading home for a spot of DIY. The advice was good, after replace the scorched fuse mounts and running our shower on a lower heat setting to date the fuses have remained intact. Pros: Personal touch. Good advice Cons: Shop is cluttered so probably best to ask for what you want first.

Not sure…read morehow many people know it's here but it's one of the better central electrical suppliers and they always seem to be doing a roaring trade. Most recently I was in after one of those small 'fan heater' things to heat up a particularly freezing office and they actually advised me against buying it as it would "eat electricity". I did admire their honesty at the risk of losing a sale. There are tons of appliances and all manner of lighting and bulbs. Apparently they also install lights and the like and have a couple of very experienced electricians who can fit and kit you out with any of the purchases from the shop. Pros: Helpful friendly staff. Cons: Might be a bit hard to find.

I, as many have done used Propertynews.com to wade through the endless amounts of city centre boudoirs on offer. Many were located in the north side of the city while less were on the south side. I stumbled upon my Lucas Building property and booked a viewing. The agent, Stephen showed up and gave us the tour. The images on the website really didn't do it justice, when you saw the place with your own eyes it really shone. The paperwork was simple and easy to handle. Since signing the contract any issues we have had have been quickly and smoothly dealt with (excluding one instance where I needed a form signed) Certainly one of the most professional and reliable letting agents int he city centre with lots of properties on offer.
