The course itself starts a bit slow, then you get to the 6th and from then on it is nothing short of spectacular. It winds through, around, and over some fairly large sand dunes, and the views are breathtaking. Narin & Portnoo is worth making the effort to get to if you are in Donegal/Sligo. The clubhouse do decent grub and the members made us feel very welcome.

It is considered one of the most scenic eighteen hole links golf courses in Ireland, with sweeping views of Gweebarra Bay. The course length is just under six thousand yards, which may not be much by modern standards. However, the range of shots required to scramble through this course is so wide that only those players who are true all-rounders will be able to get around unscathed. There is no doubt about it - Narin & Portnoo will expose any deficiencies in your game. That is what makes it so engaging, and why it remains so popular despite the short yardage. Narin & Portnoo has grown in stature in recent decades. A traditional parochial golf club, it took off in 1979 when they staged a successful Pro-Am competition, featuring the likes of Christy O'Connor, Eamon Darcy and David Feherty. This put Narin & Portnoo on the golfing map, and over the next two decades they revamped the course, so as to keep up with the abilities of the modern player, and also extended the club house significantly. In 2010, the Fáilte Ireland Golf Guide ranked Narin & Portnoo in the top eight Irish courses, a huge boon which has seen the club rise to the elite level. Usually tell you to get a caddy but due to the remoteness of the course good caddies are hard to find. They will however be useful as bag carriers All services but range is far from club house. Yeats. The course boasts one of the most scenic locations in Ireland perched on cliffs that tower over three expansive beaches overlooking the Atlantic. The panoramic mountain and ocean views are spectacular but they pale in comparison to the stunning scenery provided by Benbulben, an enormous limestone rock formation that the area is known for. Besides the great views, the golf course offers an excellent round. The traditional links layout utilized the natural contours of the dune-covered landscape rather than moving large amounts of earth during its design. The end result is a course filled with dramatic undulations, elevated tees, and raised plateau greens. For the less experienced golfers they also have an additional nine hole course. Not easy as there are plenty of traps, ditches and narrow fairways to contend with. But the greens are easier The course had all services with a above par chipping and putting practice area. Story is that you call in, pick a piece of unpainted pottery, loads of different design and types/prices to choose from, paint it all the mad colours/designs you like. Stephanie the owner then glazes it, fires (bakes it) in her oven and you either call in or she will post it to you after. All great fun, perfect for a rainy day in Sligo or any day in fact. Have some great mugs because of this place. Venue's like this are sometimes forgotten about but try and remember this one in Sligo. Staff are all great fun, very helpful and a bit crazy and mad! P.S. Just about two hours from Dublin, and you're on the wild west coast, though not wild enough that it doesn't have some of the best food in Ireland on your doorstep, and cracking activities for all ages and persuasions - surfing, horse riding, hiking and the rest. If you're gonna say you can't afford a weekend away, think again. It was 20 euro each for a 4 bed dorm (there were 4 of us, so not a problem) If you really wanna do it cheap, they have toast and cereal for free in the morning, free wifi, free surfboard storage, a nice kitchen and cosy sitting room. It's got a real homely feel - it's not fancy by any stretch of the imagination, but it did remind me of being in my granny's house down the country. Really welcoming and friendly, and totally casual. It's about a two minute walk to the beach as well, the same distance to Shell's (you will be eating here three times a day guaranteed - see my other review!), and right across from two lovely pubs. All in all, cheap as chips, cosy, friendly & gorgeously situated. What more could you need?

The staff are so welcoming & friendly, customers are on a first name basis. They offer a wide range of activities including, Cross Country, Lessons, Trekking, Summer Camps & a wide variety of competitions. Their lessons are excellent. They work with the abilities of all riders so the riders all get a good experience. The cross country course is immaculate! They have jumps of every shape & size. The ground is fantastic also. Their showjumping competitions are very good & are organsied to the highest standard. I advise anyone of any riding ability to go here for the best riding experience of a lifelime.

Designed by the legendary course architect, Eddie Hackett, it is continually featured in Golf World's Top 100 courses in Ireland and Great Britain. Donegal Golf Club was founded in 1959 and the first golf course and clubhouse was built on the edge of Donegal Town at Tullycullion. In the early 70's some far-sighted members identified the links land of the Murvagh Peninsula as being more than suitable for a golf course. The course and new clubhouse was officially opened in 1976. Since then the course has undergone some changes with major remodelling at the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 9th, 12th, 13th and 14th. I played this Murvagh links on a calm sunny day in April (hard to believe), it is nothing short of…read morespectacular, and has raced towards the top of my list of favourite courses. The drive to get to the peninsula brings you down a dead straight tree lined avenue which is about 1.5km long. It opens onto what I would describe as perfect links land. This is billed as one of the longest golf courses in Europe, and the card says it measures around 7,500 yards from the back tees. The information doesn't prepare you for the vastness of this course, the sense of space and being away from it all is joyful. And what a course, it is challenging, fair, and stunning. I highly recommend this course to any golfer! Great welcome in the clubhouse too!
