In fact, I plan to someday. This place is definitely worth checking out. Especially if you're into creepy old hotels. Scotland is ripe with history. It's everywhere you look. The fact that I found this place foreboding is just part of the experience. We weren't even supposed to stay here during our great United Kingdom tour in 2007, but my dad ran over a curb in the rental Mercedes Benz (I will never own one after this experience. He ran over a curb in the center of the highway and it blew the tire and dented the hubcap.) and we were stuck car-less in Scottish Highland nowhere (nowhere else I would rather be stuck). My dad was bent out of shape and tuckered out from both driving a stick shift with the wrong hand on the wrong side of the road, and telling my mom and me to stop touching strange rocks in the middle of random glens. So, that led us to spend a night here after it was recommended by the repair guy. There was some kind of interesting war museum inside, blessed FOOD at smallish pub (We were starving. No matter how the place looked, it was an oasis!) and one sort of bored but charming clerk guy who helped us find a room at the last minute. I very much remember a Shining-esque quality to the hallway and rooms, but then again, I feel that way in most hotels and usually check the bathtub every time. Like everywhere else we stayed in Scotland, we received top notch hospitality here as well as an interesting story we still talk about to this day. My mom swears up and down she dreamed about the place the night before the tire blew, and remembered the name from her dream. None of us were ever really believers in paranormal stuff, either. Until this trip. Anyway ignore all the creepy mumbo jumbo and do give this place a try. It earned its stars. It can't help it's an historic building in the middle of beautiful rainy nowhere.

We planned to stay nearby in Glencoe and looked for a restaurant. The internet had little advice to offer but this restaurant came up multiple times with glowing reviews. Silly Goose is located in the Lime Tree Inn and it's pure perfection! We were greeted kindly and welcomed into the cozy dining space. Spacious but very romantic. We started with drinks enjoying local gin and whiskey. My husband got to try the Sassenach that he'd been eyeing! For dinner, we got the ribeye and chicken. We were so impressed with how well these were cooked. So soft and moist! We were too full for dessert but they had a nice menu of options. The restaurant is spectacular and worth the visit if you are in the area. Be sure to make a reservation as they did have to turn folks away!

Room one on the first floor was a bit more spacious with a settee as well as a separate tub and walk-in shower. Room five was on the top floor up two flights of a curving staircase. Dinner was especially impressive with upscale playing and exquisite entrees and desserts. All the staff we encountered were helpful, patient and kind.

From the moment we walked through the gigantic doors we were greeted with the warmth and hospitality of Scotland's past. The staff at the hotel was exceptional, professional and friendly. The hotel itself is so charming -- the lobby, lounge and library exude elegance and sophistication of Scotland history. Our room was clean, spacious and tastefully, historically decorated and the bed was very comfortable. The ensuite bathroom was bright and clean and a nice size. The grounds were beautiful and we enjoyed a walk to the Invergarry Castle ruins. One of the highlights of our stay was the breathtaking panoramic view from our suite that overlooked the loch. It was simply mesmerizing and peaceful, especially during sunrise and sunset. The hotel's lounge and library were the perfect spots to unwind with a nightcap in front of a roaring fire. We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel multiple days and each were excellent and exceeded our expectations in both service, quality and deliciousness. During our stay we did day road trips from the hotel and we always looked forward to returning to relax in the lounge with a drink and reflect on our day's adventures. If you are visiting the Invergarry area, we highly recommend Glengarry Castle Hotel for an unforgettable experience.

Although this bad news could not make our situation any better after wearing our unmentionables for 3 days straight....her warm hospitality and the very clean room made ALL the DIFFERENCE!!! Remember all though this establishment advertises as a castle hotel, the contenintal breakfast or Full scottish breakfast is included at no charge, like a bed n breakfast. There are Invergarry castle ruins on the property as well as a very cold river nearby in which we spotted children paddling in a floating raft as their guardians were fishing off a boat. There is a beautiful walkway on the dirt path along side the green garden but I don't recommend wheelchair users to roam on this path without supervision...too many holes and bumps. Cable channels are free, you can purchase dinner for an additional 70 sterling pounds, and the fresh breakfast is fulfillingly tasty. The view from the dining room is glorious although the weather changed from windy grey cloud skies to hail storm and then rain and then sunshine. Completely unpredictable, as expected for UK weather. Go for the experience!

Then back for dinner at the inn which was amazing. I highly recommend one of the non alcoholic cocktails. They brought out bread and butter, and nuts and olives as soon as we sat down. The meal was really good and all of the staff was very nice. And the view from the restaurant is incredible. Everything was perfect. It's a fairly large hotel amongst the many B&Bs outside of Fort William. Our rooms are a little noisy until 10pm or so. We asked for a room with a view and ended up with half of one obscured by the lounge/bar building. Room is compact but serviceable. The common rooms, however, are very relaxing to just sit and enjoy the Loch in the setting/morning sun. Nautical maps abound, and there are a couple of topological maps if you are considering a walk in the nearby Glens the next day (of course, you should *actually* acquire one should you do so). The food is, ah, conventional. We went for venison burgers and vension sausages (sauces a little salty), and enjoyed them without anything worthy of special mention. Except the goat cheese, which turned out quite blue-vein. It's as if the meat itself lack that game taste a venison should ideally have, and they're making up for it with the other ingredients.
